Riz Ahmed and John Turturro Star in HBO’s ‘The Night Of’

HBO’s announced The Night Of will premiere this summer starring John Turturro (O Brother, Where Art Thou?) and Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler). The eight part dramatic series was created by executive producers Steven Zaillian (American Gangster) and Richard Price (The Wire). Zaillian and Price wrote The Night Of and Zaillian also directed all but one episode of the limited series (James Marsh directed episode four). Jane Tranter (Rome), James Gandolfini (Alive Day Memories: Home from Iraq, The Sopranos), and Peter Moffat (Einstein and Eddington) also served as executive producers. The series is based on Peter Moffat’s BBC series, Criminal Justice.


In addition to Turturro and Ahmed, the cast of The Night Of includes Kenneth Williams (Boardwalk Empire), Bill Camp (Birdman), Jeannie Berlin (Inherent Vice), Poorna Jagannathan (Thanks for Sharing), Payman Maadi (A Separation), Glenne Headly (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), Amara Karan (The Darjeeling Limited), Sofia Black-D’Elia (The Immigrant), Paul Sparks (Boardwalk Empire), Ben Shenkman (Royal Pains), Afton Williamson (Banshee), Paulo Costanzo (Road Trip), Ned Eisenberg (Last Man Standing), Mohammad Bakri (Laila’s Birthday), Nabil Elouahabi (Zero Dark Thirty), Ashley Thomas (The Man Inside), Glenn Fleshler (A Most Violent Year), Chip Zien (United 93) and Max Casella (Vinyl).

The Night Of Plot: The limited series delves into the intricacies of a complex New York City murder case with cultural and political overtones. The story examines the police investigation, the legal proceedings, the criminal justice system and the feral purgatory of Rikers Island, where the accused await trial for felony crimes.
