Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Allison Janney from I, Tonya, and Gary Oldman from Darkest Hour seem to have solidified their spots as the ones to beat at the 2018 Oscars with their Screen Actors Guild wins. On the television side, actors from Veep and This Is Us took multiple awards at the 24th Annual SAG Awards.

The SAG Awards honoring the best performances of 2017 in television and film were held on Sunday, January 21st. Kristen Bell made her debut as the awards show’s first-ever host, and she kept the show moving along while also making a few pointed comments on current events. Overall, however, SAG Awards winners and presenters steered away from anything overly political during the two-hour broadcast.

One of the show’s most moving speeches came from first-time winner Nicole Kidman who took home the Female Actor in a Television Movie or Series award for her performance in HBO’s Big Little Lies. Kidman, who admitted she was feeling ill, was noticeably emotional as she began her acceptance speech.

“I’m crying. [This] means a lot to me. I’ve been working since I was 14 years old. Thank you SAG-AFTRA for giving me this. I’m incredibly nervous because this is reality colliding with fantasy right now,” said Kidman. She added, “To receive this at this stage in my life is extraordinary and at this time in the industry when these things are going on, and for this role.”

Kidman praised her co-stars and then also thanked a bevy of female actors who she looks up to and whose work she admires. “I wanted to say Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange, I revere you. I’ve watched you and I’ve learned from you. And there’s others. Meryl Streep, Jane Fonda, Judy Davis, Isabelle Huppert, Judy Dench…the list is so long, and I would love to say so many more names, but I can’t right now. But I want to thank you all for your trailblazing performances you’ve given over your career, and how wonderful it is that our careers today can go beyond 40 years old. Because 20 years ago, we were pretty washed-up by this stage in our lives. So that’s not the case now. We’ve proven, and these actresses and so many more are proving that we are potent and powerful and viable. I just beg that the industry stays behind us, because our stories are finally being told. It’s only the beginning.”
