Mad Max: Fury Road earned the Best Picture, Best Director, Best Sound Design, and Best Editing awards from the San Diego Film Critics Society. The group met on Monday, December 14th to vote on the best work in films released in 2015, and George Miller’s post-apocalyptic action thriller had a lot of supporters among the group (full disclosure: I’m the president of the SDFCS). Following close on Mad Max: Fury Road‘s heels was Room, the dramatic film based on Emma Donoghue’s bestselling novel. The SDFCS gave Donoghue the Best Adapted Screenplay award and the film’s female star, Brie Larson, beat out the pack of contenders that included Mad Max‘s Charlize Theron to earn the Best Actress award. Room also earned young actor Jacob Tremblay the Breakthrough Artist award. Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, the animated film Anomalisa, and the vampire comedy What We Do in the Shadows each earned two awards from the San Diego critics.
