The Mentalist star Simon Baker will make his feature film directorial debut with Breath, based on the bestselling book by Tim Winton. Gerard Lee adapted Winton’s book for the screen, and Baker will be doing triple duty as director, star, and producer. Mark Johnson and Jamie Hilton are also producing the dramatic thriller.
Arclight Films says shooting will take place this fall.
“When I first read Breath, I knew I had to somehow make the film,” said Baker. “The gathering storm of the story, detailed and intimate against the power and scope of the rugged setting, struck me as incredibly cinematic. I’m beyond excited to be back in Australia realizing this dream.”
“Breath, lead by an actor (now director) who knows precisely how to forge a hit has the potential to light up the international marketplace with its equal measures of mystery, suspense, and sexual danger,” added producerJohnson. “We are on the verge of something truly special with this movie.”
The Plot:
Breath focuses on the lives of two teenage thrill-seeking boys. Hungry for discovery, they form an unlikely bond with reclusive older surfer, Sando (Baker) and his mysterious wife. The boys are driven to take risks that will have a profound and lasting impact on their lives.
