‘Stranger Things’ Will Return for a Third Season

In a move that surprises absolutely no one, Network has renewed the award-winning supernatural series Stranger Things for a third season. The news broke that Netflix had officially given the popular sci-fi thriller a season three via Twitter, but given the show’s popularity, the only surprise was that it had taken until December 1, 2107 to confirm another season.

The cast of season two included Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as Chief Jim Hopper, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Cara Buono as Karen Wheeler, Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers, Joe Keery as Steve Harrington, Dacre Montgomery as Billy, and Sadie Sink as Max.

Matt and Ross Duffer created the series and wrote all episodes of seasons one and two. They also directed some episodes and serve as executive producers along with director Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and Iain Patterson.

Prior to the second season, Joe Kerry talked to Showbiz Junkies about topping season one. “People love season one because it’s season one, and if you make season two like season one…season two isn’t season one so you have to keep the things that people really loved about the show but also do some things different. I think that the way that they’ve gone about it by making it a little darker, a little clunker in a good way, it’ll be exciting for people and it’ll feel different but it’s also the same show that they fell in love with, I think,” said Kerry. After season two premiered, Kerry’s description of the new season as “a little darker, a little clunker in a good way,” proved to be appropriate.

The first season of Stranger Things earned 18 Emmy nominations including outstanding directing, writing, drama series, supporting actor, and supporting actress. Season one was also nominated for three Screen Actors Guild awards including nominations for Millie Bobby Brown and Winona Ryder in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series category. The series won the SAG award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

Netflix has not confirmed when Stranger Things season three will air or how big of a time jump fans can expect.
