CBS All Access just announced four of the main cast members for the much-anticipated The Stand limited event series. James Marsden, Amber Heard, Odessa Young and Henry Zaga have signed on to leading roles in the series based on the bestselling novel by horrormeister Stephen King.

In addition to confirming the four new cast members, CBS All Access provided brief descriptions of the characters they’ll be playing in the limited series.

  • James Marsden will portray Stu Redman, an ordinary working-class factory man in an extraordinary situation with a damaged quality to him that belies his exterior.
  • Amber Heard will play Nadine Cross, a deeply conflicted woman who feels the consequences of her actions, but is still compelled by her allegiance to Randall Flagg, the Dark Man.
  • Odessa Young will play Frannie Goldsmith, a pregnant young woman navigating a strange new world, who also has the foresight to recognize that there is evil lurking beyond the Dark Man.
  • Henry Zaga will portray Nick Andros, a young deaf and mute man who finds himself in a position of authority when the unthinkable happens. He has a habit of risking his own well-being for the safety of others.

CBS All Access also announced Stephen King will be thrilling fans by writing the last chapter of the series, “providing a new coda that won’t be found in the book.”

CBS Television Studios is producing the limited series, and Josh Boone and Ben Cavell are writing and executive producing. Boone will also direct. Executive producers include Roy Lee, Jimmy Miller and Richard P. Rubinstein. Knate Lee, Jill Killington and Owen King are on board as producers.

James Marsden was recently seen in Dead to Me and Westworld. He’s just wrapped up work on Sonic the Hedgehog and The Comeback Trail. Marsden’s also keeping busy with a starring role in the FX series Mrs. America.

Amber Heard starred opposite Jason Momoa in the superhero film, Aquaman. Her other credits include London Fields, Her Smell, I Do… Until I Don’t, The Danish Girl, and Magic Mike XXL.

Odessa Young just finished shooting The Giant, The Man in the Woods, and Shirley. She was recently seen on the big screen in A Million Little Pieces and Assassination Nation.

Henry Zaga stars in Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why and Trinkets. He’s currently shooting Looking for Alaska and has Josh Boone’s X-Men: New Mutants set for release in 2020.
