Starz is breaking up Droughtlander with the first look at the upcoming fifth season of Outlander. The network announced production is now officially underway on season five in Scotland. The announcement was accompanied by a smiling photo of Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe as Jamie and Claire Fraser.

According to Starz, Outlander season five will consist of 12 episodes and is based on the fifth book of Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling Outlander series, The Fiery Cross.

“In season four, Jamie and Claire’s decision to remain in the New World changes the course of their life together. After being struck by the beauty of the North Carolina wilderness – untamed and uncultivated – they choose to call it home: Fraser’s Ridge. However, what is a ‘dream’ for some is a ‘nightmare’ for others,” explained executive producer Matthew B. Roberts. “Being at the center of the birth of America is often a bloody and violent and heartbreaking matter. Now, in season five, Jamie and Claire’s duty is not only to their loved ones, but to the community of settlers forming part of the ever-increasing Clan Fraser.”

Outlander, which is confirmed to run through at least season six, is executive produced by Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, Matthew B. Roberts, Toni Graphia, and Andy Harries. The series is a Tall Ship Productions and Left Bank Pictures production in association with Sony Pictures Television.

In addition to Heughan and Balfe, the cast includes Duncan Lacroix as Murtagh Fraser, Sophie Skelton as Brianna Randall Fraser, Richard Rankin as Roger Wakefield, John Bell as Ian, Lauren Lyle as Marsali, and César Domboy as Fergus.

The Official Outlander Season 5 Plot:

The Frasers of the Ridge are here! The fifth season of Outlander sees a continuation of the Fraser family’s adventures, as they navigate the trials and tribulations of life in colonial America. Establishing a home in the New World is by no means an easy task – and protecting it proves even more difficult – particularly in the wild backcountry of North Carolina, during a period of dramatic socio-political upheaval. As Claire knows all too well, friends, neighbors and countrymen are unwittingly marching towards Revolution, with members of the elite ruling classes struggling to stifle the alarming undercurrent of unrest triggered by the Regulator Movement.

Against this backdrop, which soon heralds the birth of the new American nation, Claire and Jamie are forced to ask themselves just how far they are willing to go to protect their home, and praying there will be no reason to light the “fiery cross,” an ancient Scottish call to arms.

The homicidal doll with the psycho eyes returns for an updated “re-imagined” take on Child’s Play. Orion Pictures just released a full body shot of the 2019 version of Chucky which looks similar to the original doll’s design with a few noticeable tweaks. The eyes and eyebrows are different and the new doll looks less plasticy and menacing.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly director Lars Klevberg described his version of the classic horror film. “It’s going to be scary, and it’s going to be surprisingly emotional, and we also want it to be fun,” stated Klevberg. “So, it’s a really good mix.”

The cast of the 2019 Child’s Play includes Aubrey Plaza (Legion, Parks and Recreation), Gabriel Bateman (The Dangerous Book for Boys, Lights Out), and Brian Tyree Henry (If Beale Street Could Talk, Widows). Mark Hamill (the Star Wars films) will be providing the voice of Chucky. Brad Dourif voiced the killer doll in the film franchise’s previous installments. Lars Klevberg (Polaroid) directed from a script by Tyler Burton Smith, based on characters created by Don Mancini.

Seth Graham-Smith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Productions (It, It: Chapter Two) produced the new Child’s Play. The behind the scenes team includes cinematographer Brendan Uegama, editor Tom Elkins, production designer Dan Hermansen, costume designer Jori Woodman, and set decorator Rachel Robinson.

Child’s Play will open in theaters on June 21, 2019.

The Plot:

“A contemporary re-imagining of the 1988 horror classic, Child’s Play follows Karen (Plaza), a single mother who gifts her son Andy (Bateman) a Buddi doll, unaware of its more sinister nature.”

Fans were finally treated to a new episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones after a 20 month wait with the eighth and final season premiere on April 14, 2019. The world of warring houses, dragons, and White Walkers welcomed viewers back with an episode that broke previous Game of Thrones viewership records.

According to HBO, season eight episode one (“Winterfell”) was watched by 17.4 million viewers. That number’s up half a million over the previous record which was set with the season seven finale. Plus, “Winterfell” topped the season seven premiere by over a million viewers.

Veep starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus had its biggest night numbers-wise since June 2016 (season five). Box Office Report: ‘Shazam!’ Hangs on to 1st Place

The anticipated battle between comic book-inspired films Shazam! starring Zachary Levi and Hellboy with David Harbour turned out to be a bit of a dud. Shazam! easily hung on to its top spot on the box office chart while Hellboy posted tiny numbers, grossing just $12 million over its first three days in release.

The R-rated action horror comedy struggled to find an audience following negative pre-release buzz and rotten reviews. Just 15% of critics gave Hellboy a positive review on Rotten Tomatoes, and audiences were equally unimpressed. Cinemascore has it sitting at a “C” average, according to ticket buyers.

Newcomers Little and After exceeded expectations, but the animated family-friendly film Missing Link missed its target. According to Box Office Mojo, Missing Link‘s $5.8 million is the lowest opening for a Laika release.

Up next: Shazam! should retain its grip on 1st place over the April 19-21st weekend. It’s only competition will come from the horror film The Curse of La Llorona opening in 3,400 theaters and Penguins from Disneynature.

Box Office Top 10: April 12-14, 2019

  1. Shazam! – $25,140,000
  2. Little – $15,499,000
  3. Hellboy – $12,015,000
  4. Pet Sematary – $10,000,000
  5. Dumbo – $9,186,000
  6. Captain Marvel – $8,626,000
  7. Us – $6,946,000
  8. After – $6,200,000
  9. Missing Link – $5,841,434
  10. The Best of Enemies – $2,000,000

The Shazam! Plot:

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Asher Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Zachary Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test?

Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong).
