FX’s The Americans season six episode eight which aired May 16, 2018 found the cast, writers, and director at the top of their games. This final season has been loaded with twists, but episode eight might have delivered the mother of all shockers thus far.

Season six episode eight picks up where episode seven left off, with Philip (Matthew Rhys) sitting on his couch contemplating life. Elizabeth (Keri Russell) arrives home and informs him she won’t need his help again. She also advises him not to worry, a difficult warning for Philip to swallow since she’s wearing a cyanide pill around her neck.

Philip confesses he was approached by someone from home who said there are people at The Centre who are attempting to get rid of Gorbachev. This man who Philip won’t name was aware of Elizabeth’s secret meetings and wanted to know what she was doing. Philip admits he told him she was working on obtaining a sensor from Rennhull, that she was looking at one of their own who might be a traitor, and she was going to Chicago. So, pretty much all of Elizabeth’s secrets.

Elizabeth tells Philip to go to hell, and he questions whether she’s even sure she knows why she’s doing things at this point. He claims he was trying to help her and to get her to think for herself, to get her to be a human being. He reminds her they used to believe in things but now she just does as she’s told without question. “It’s on us, all of it,” says Philip.

Elizabeth, going by the name Wendy Gallagher, is acting as though she’s a busy professional with barely time for lunch at an upscale restaurant. Jackson the intern arrives at her table and she apologizes she can’t stay long. He’s come to the conclusion he’s interested in the management training program she offered, and Elizabeth thinks that’s great.

Elizabeth takes his resume and promises to pass it to the guy running the program. She asks him to write a report about his work in the Senator’s office. It’s to show how observant he is, and she wants it in 24 hours. It needs to be detailed and he doesn’t need to worry because anyone who reads it will have a security clearance.

Over at the FBI, the team is reporting in on the used cars that were purchased with cash and on the Russian Orthodox priests. One, in particular, is of interest because he’s been promoted unusually quickly.

Stan (Noah Emmerich) wonders about Oleg and why he’s in town, but they haven’t learned anything.

Paige (Holly Taylor) watches the news with her mom and Claudia (Margo Martindale). Elizabeth asks for a meeting alone and Claudia says she’s sorry about Marilyn. Elizabeth reveals that Glenn Haskard’s got a meeting on Wednesday with the Russians and she’ll insert a bug in his briefcase before then.

Elizabeth shows up for her nursing job, but the house is quiet. Glenn (Scott Cohen) is by his wife’s bedside and he confesses he gave Erica (Miriam Shor) extra morphine. She’s alive but her breathing is labored. She couldn’t take it any longer and begged him to do it. It’s been a day since he gave her the overdose, and Elizabeth explains Erica’s built up a tolerance to morphine.

Glenn canceled all his meetings to finally be with his wife. Elizabeth advises him to say goodbye to Erica and then leave. He caresses Erica’s face and kisses her before leaving the bedroom. Once he’s gone, Elizabeth gently rubs Erica’s face and then looks around at her drawings. She then kisses Erica’s forehead before shoving a paintbrush in her mouth, forcing her to gag. As Erica vomits, Elizabeth holds her mouth and nose shut. Erica struggles in bed to free herself but she’s too weak. She finally gives in to death.

Elizabeth cleans the paintbrush, breaks it in half, and places it in her pocket. She then gently cleans Erica’s face.

She joins Glenn downstairs to inform him Erica is gone. She suggests he spend time with his wife now since it’s his last opportunity. After he leaves the room, Elizabeth takes photos of the papers in his briefcase.

Glenn calls Elizabeth back upstairs and asks her to choose one of Erica’s drawings. He really wants her to keep one, and Elizabeth agrees to take one with her.

The painting’s almost too big to fit in her station wagon but she finally manages. Later, she removes the painting from its frame and is about to set it on fire when she stops herself. Instead, she rolls it up and puts it into a locker. As she’s about to walk away, she changes her mind. She removes it from the locker and burns it.

Jackson visits Elizabeth and she rewards him with a briefcase with his initials. She lies and says he’s been accepted into the training program. She offers him a drink and tells him her colleague loved his report and will be calling him next week. They flirt and then make out.

At home, Stan looks through a photo album and stares at a picture with the Jennings. Renee (Laurie Holden) arrives home and opens a letter from the FBI. She has a job interview the next week and she believes Dennis helped set it up. Stan suggests all she needs to do is be herself and they’ll love her.

The following morning, Jackson’s having breakfast in Elizabeth’s bed. She asks if he can do her a favor by dropping a box off at the State Department for her. He’s happy to do it and she instructs him to leave it in room 6226 with a piece of Senator Nunes’ stationery on top with a note saying it’s for Fred Sperber DOD. That should keep anyone from moving the box.

Philip can’t concentrate at work and rings Henry. Unfortunately, he’s at hockey practice and isn’t around. Henry’s future is obviously weighing heavily on Philip.

Stan, who’s grown increasingly suspicious of the Jennings, heads to Roy Rogers restaurant to talk to Curtis about Gregory Thomas. He wants to know about the woman Gregory was hanging out with. He shows Curtis a photo of Elizabeth and Curtis isn’t sure it’s her. He does remember she was beautiful and had incredible hair. She also smoked like a chimney.

Later that day, Elizabeth calls Jackson and asks him to pick up the box he dropped off for her. She claims the meeting was canceled so she needs the box back. Of course, Jackson agrees to do anything she asks.

Philip pays a visit to Stavos (Anthony Arkin) at his apartment and apologizes again for firing him. Philip confesses the company’s in trouble and might fail. Plus, he and Elizabeth are also doing badly both personally and financially. Stavos remembers he started working with Philip years ago and never called the police even though he knew things were going on in the back room. He doesn’t really accept the apology and says, “I was raised to be loyal,” before closing the door in Philip’s face.

Elizabeth meets Jackson on the street to retrieve the box. There’s something wrong with Jackson and he doesn’t say a word until he sits in her passenger seat. He explains he looked at the clipboard and there weren’t any canceled meetings in that room. He admits he looked in the files and found a recording device. Elizabeth tries laughing it off and says it’s just a way for her to take notes for her client. Her client needed the meeting’s details and was supposed to attend. The recording would have helped her client get a competitive edge on a bid.

Jackson’s not buying any of this. He demands to know who she is and what’s going on. She pulls over and he’s absolutely enraged. He wants to call his dad and attempts to get out of the car. Elizabeth forces him to stay by grabbing his arm. They stare at each other and then finally Elizabeth tells him not to mention this to his dad or anyone. If he agrees, he can leave. He says he doesn’t understand and finally, she releases him. She advises him to go back to school and go into the pavement business. (The Elizabeth from a few days ago would have snapped his neck without a second thought.)

Philip is fitted for a suit he can’t afford but is buying anyway.

Elizabeth listens to the tape and hears about Gorbachev’s plans to get rid of the long-range nuclear missiles Russia and the U.S. have pointed at each other. Plus, Gorbachev will agree to all American requirements. The removal of nuclear weapons is Gorbachev’s dream.

Elizabeth fills Claudia in on what she heard on the tape, not finding anything suspicious in what Fyodor Nesterenko said during the meeting. Claudia reveals they have new orders and Nesterenko must be taken care of within the next 48 hours.

Philip, in disguise, heads to a video store. He rents a Russian movie and watches it at home, alone.

Elizabeth watches Nesterenko and the others exit the summit. It’s night and people are walking around the streets, plus cars driving by. That doesn’t matter as she has a gun secreted in a newspaper ready to fire. However, for some reason, she doesn’t and simply walks past the group of men.

A short time later, Elizabeth admits to Claudia she didn’t shoot Nesterenko. She believes he sounds like a decent man, not a traitor. Claudia doesn’t care how Elizabeth feels. She instructs Elizabeth she must do the hit, no matter what. Claudia then explains she’s been protecting Elizabeth so she can do her job and now she wonders if Elizabeth has lost her confidence.

Elizabeth confesses she needs to know she’s doing the right thing this time. Claudia explains that Gorbachev has no sense of Russian history or ideals. She believes he’s giving everything away and it’s almost too late to stop him. After they kill Nesterenko, they’ll alter his reports to make it appear he was trading away a highly classified defense program for Gorbachev. (Claudia has known all along what Elizabeth was working on regarding the Mexico meeting.)

The ultimate goal was and continues to be to get rid of Gorbachev. The Centre’s top leaders ordered this, working in coordination with military leaders. Elizabeth points out that the party isn’t behind this and refuses to do it. Claudia warns her to keep quiet and not to throw everything away now.

Philip’s still watching the Russian movie. Across the street, Stan’s standing at a window looking at the Jennings house when Renee catches him and asks him to come to bed. He claims he’s looking at the moon. He sees Elizabeth return home.

Elizabeth immediately tells Philip she wants to talk to his guy. He explains it’s a dead drop and she asks for the contact plan. When Philip asks what she wants to say to him, she doesn’t reply. Philip truly believes he’s putting their country first, which is what she should have done. She asks Philip to pass on the message that what his contact is worried about is happening. The leaders are trying to get rid of Gorbachev. She also tells Philip she doesn’t want to kill Nesterenko because he’s not a traitor. She even reveals they want to falsify her reports to make it look bad for Nesterenko, and that The Centre’s leaders want Gorbachev out now.

Philip agrees to pass on the message. Elizabeth reveals she has to leave again to watch Nesterenko. Before she exits, Philip passes her a note saying Father Andre wants to meet her. She tells Philip to meet him instead. “Maybe he’ll give you absolution,” says Elizabeth as she heads out the door.

However, their opinionated next-door neighbor, Calvin Butler (Cedric the Entertainer), is wary of the newcomers, certain that they’ll disrupt the culture on the block. Amid a divided nation, chaotic national discourse and rampant attacks on the press, Murphy returns to the airwaves with her original FYI team: lifestyle reporter Corky Sherwood, investigative journalist Frank Fontana and producer Miles Silverberg.

Murphy’s son, Avery, shares his mother’s competitive spirit and quick wit, and has followed in her journalistic footsteps – perhaps too closely. ‘Destination Wedding’ Trailer: Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder Play Reluctant Wedding Guests

Destination Wedding has just released what could be the best romantic comedy trailer to come along in years. The two minute trailer finds Keanu Reeves (the John Wick film franchise) and Winona Ryder (Netflix’s Stranger Things) playing wedding guests who detest pretty much everything about the wedding they’re forced to attend. They especially detest the fact they’re pushed into sharing this experience together.

“Do you believe that there’s someone for everyone?” asks Ryder’s character, Lindsay. “Close. I believe that there’s nobody for anyone,” replies Reeves’ Frank.

Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder’s first onscreen pairing came in 1992’s critically acclaimed horror film, Dracula, which had Gary Oldman in the titular role. Reeves and Ryder also had roles in 2006’s A Scanner Darkly from writer/director Richard Linklater and 2009’s The Private Lives of Pippa Lee from writer/director Rebecca Miller.

Destination Wedding was written and directed by Victor Levin. Levin’s best known as a writer on the sitcom Mad About You and the television drama Survivor’s Remorse. The 2018 release was produced by Gail Lyon, Elizabeth Dell, and Robert Jones.

Regatta’s planning an August 24, 2018 release in select theaters.

The Plot: Destination Wedding reunites two of Hollywood’s most adored stars, Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder, as the socially awkward Frank and Lindsay. When they meet on their way to a destination wedding, they soon discover they have a lot in common: they both hate the bride, the groom, the wedding, themselves, and most especially each other. As the weekend’s events continually force them together – and their cheerlessness immediately isolates them from the other guests – Frank and Lindsay find that if you verbally spar with someone long enough, anything can happen. When debate gives way to desire, they must decide which is stronger: their hearts or their common sense.

Epix will be delving into the origin story of Batman’s butler and friend, Alfred Pennyworth, with a new dramatic series. Pennyworth will be executive produced by Gotham‘s Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon and is based on the DC Comics characters created by Bob Kane with Bill Finger.

Season one will consist of 10 one-hour episodes. Epix is targeting a 2019 premiere date.

“As genuine fans of these classic DC characters, as well as the incredibly talented Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon, we couldn’t be more excited to make EPIX the home of this series. We can’t wait to work with Bruno and Danny – along with Peter Roth, Susan Rovner, Brett Paul and the team at Warner Horizon – on this fantastic origin story,” stated Epix President Michael Wright.

Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon added, “Michael and his colleagues have created the perfect venue for original storytelling, and all of us working on Pennyworth are thrilled to be on the EPIX slate.”

The dramatic series will follow “Bruce Wayne’s legendary butler, Alfred Pennyworth, a former British SAS soldier who forms a security company and goes to work with Thomas Wayne, Bruce’s billionaire father, in 1960’s London.” There’s no word yet on the cast, however Epix did confirm production is expected to kick off later this year.

The series, which was given a straight-to-series order, is a Warner Horizon Scripted Television production.

Epix recently picked up ABC Signature Studios’ Godfather of Harlem starring Oscar winner Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland). The network’s dark comedy Get Shorty is set to kick off its second season this summer starring Ray Romano and Chris O’Dowd.

‘The Flash’ Season 4 Episode 22 Recap and Review: “Think Fast”

The Flash Season 4 Episode 22 Recap

“Train us, bring us into Flashtime with you,” says Cisco (Carlos Valdez) to Barry (Grant Gustin). Cisco wants his speedster friend to get he and Caitlin ready to help stop DeVoe (Neil Sandilands) and “The Enlightenment” once and for all in season four episode 22 of The Flash.

As the episode begins, Diggle (David Ramsey) arrives at an A.R.G.U.S. facility where Fallout is being kept. He tells the guards to lower the power-reducing shields and after they do, he comments on the modern music one of the guards is listening to and disapproves. He changes it to Handel’s “Messiah” and reveals himself as DeVoe (Neil Sandilands) who shapeshifted into Diggle to fool them. DeVoe takes on the guards using his multiple meta powers. To their credit, the guards put up a good fight but are no match for DeVoe. He kills most of them, leaving a few hostages alive as he enters the chamber where Fallout is being kept. He begins to have Fallout heat up.

Team Flash checks out all the major airfields where DeVoe could possibly launch a satellite and all is normal. Harry’s (Tom Cavanagh) brain is getting worse and, taking pity on him, Iris (Candice Patton) invites him to help her do some investigating to find Marlize (Kim Engelbrecht). He accepts.

Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) pays a visit to Barry and Iris’s therapist Dr. Finkle to see if she can find a way to bring back Killer Frost without telling her, of course, that she used to be Killer Frost. Finkle asks about her childhood suggesting she might be repressing something traumatic, but Caitlin shoots down that idea saying her other personality only appeared recently. Caitlin gets an alert and apologizes to Dr. Finkle, telling her has to go.

The gang receives a message from one of the scientists that DeVoe is after Fallout. Barry speeds over to Starling City and brings back Diggle, who’s once again made ill by speeding with Barry. They need to know from Diggle which facility Fallout is housed in. Diggle reveals it’s called The Castle and is very secure. However, when he checks into their security system, he realizes it says he checked into The Castle six hours ago. Team Flash realize it’s DeVoe posing as Diggle. They also discover what he’s up to. DeVoe will use Fallout as a “battery” to power all five of his satellites to begin The Enlightenment. The countdown has begun and they have 12 hours to stop him.

The A.R.G.U.S. facility is protected by plates that will electrocute Barry if he tries to speed in and grab DeVoe. They’ll also explode killing the hostages DeVoe has hovering over the plates. Barry realizes his best bet is to use Flashtime but even with moving so fast it seems as though time is standing still, he won’t be able to save the hostages and stop DeVoe from escaping.

Over at Joe’s house, he and Cecile (Danielle Nicolet) are getting ready for her to give birth when Cecile takes on a new personality. She starts talking like a young surf kid and when the pizza delivery guy shows up with dinner, Joe (Jesse L. Martin) realizes Cecile has adopted his personality. Off they go to see Caitlin.

At S.T.A.R. Labs, Caitlin checks over Cecile and tells her that her being so close to giving birth is messing with her hormones which in turn is giving her this new meta power, which Cecile begins to demonstrate by taking on Caitlin’s personality. Caitlin gives her an inhaler that should help and tells her to try to stay secluded until it’s time to deliver.

Cisco and Catlin approach Barry and tell him they want to be trained to enter Flashtime with him to stop DeVoe. They inform Barry they’ve been studying his new powers. It’s not just about “vibrating molecules” but also that when he moves that fast, he’s creating a Speed Force aura around him and the people near him. This means he could do that with Cisco and Caitlin long enough (technically about a second in real-time) for Cisco and Caitlin to save the hostages while Barry uses the power from the plates and the speed force to follow DeVoe through his dimension portal and catch him. Barry’s hesitant, but Cisco and Caitlin insist.

Training begins and at first it’s going well. Both Caitlin and Cisco can move with Barry in Flashtime surrounded by his aura. But when Cisco tries to create a breach, he has trouble, loses his concentration to frustration, and is knocked out of the Flashtime. Team Flash takes a break from training. (Uh, hello, only 12 hours before DeVoe’s Enlightenment and they’ve already wasted a few arguing about training!)

Meanwhile, Iris and Harry are theorizing about where Marlize might be and Harry gets on Iris’s nerves by insisting they should try to put themselves in Marlize’s shoes, sometimes literally. Iris snaps at Harry that Marlize is dangerous, reminding him how she stabbed her with a sword and has to be caught and put in the pipeline. Iris storms off telling Harry she’ll continue the investigation on her own.

Caitlin and Cisco get back to training with Barry in Flashtime and this time Cisco’s able to breach an opening. Unfortunately, when Caitlin tries to use the cold gun it won’t work. She gets frustrated and starts to come out of Flashtime while Barry tells her to focus. Caitlin flashes on a memory of her as a child falling off her bike and getting pinned to it with a truck headed right for her and a man yelling her name. Caitlin gets pulled out of Flashtime and is thrown by the force of the speed into the wall.

Caitlin wakes up in the medical bay with Barry and Cisco by her side. They tell her what happened and she says she’s fine and they should get back to training. Barry’s upset Caitlin almost got seriously injured and calls off the training. He thinks he doesn’t have enough time to train them for their plan to work and says he’ll come up with a new plan.

Harry visits Iris and she reluctantly lets him. He apologizes for being so pushy but still insists Marlize is the key to stopping DeVoe. He points out that before Marlize met DeVoe she was devoted to saving the planet and believed in technology. Iris still doesn’t want to hear it and tells him he’s bringing in dirt to her home where she feels safe. And, bingo! Iris realizes where Marlize is hiding…England, where she first met DeVoe.

Back at S.T.A.R. Labs, Cisco asks Barry if he’s figured it out yet. Barry admits he hasn’t come up with an idea that lets him save the hostages and stop DeVoe. Cisco says he wasn’t asking about that but wants to know why Barry’s being so selfish and stubborn about letting him and Caitlin help. Barry begins to say he wants to keep them safe, but Cisco is fed up with that excuse.

Things get heated as Caitlin, Iris, and Harry walk in. They hear Barry telling Cisco that he lost Ralph and he can’t lose his two best friends, too. He tells Cisco how Ralph visited him when he was in prison and admitted he was scared and wasn’t ready to be a hero. Barry confesses he pushed Ralph and now he’s gone. Cisco counters by reminding Barry that it was the actions he and Caitlin took to get him out of the speed force that put DeVoe’s plan into effect. Cisco claims he’s responsible for everything that’s happened so far. Cisco tells Barry he has no right to bench them. Barry looks over at Caitlin and asks if she’s sure she wants to do this. She replies, “It’s not a burden if we shoulder it together.”

The Flash Season 4 Episode 22 Recap

Cisco and Caitlin breach in front of the A.R.G.U.S. facility and Barry speeds there. After a brief argument over naming Caitlin’s new gun and finally deciding to call it an “ice shooter,” the trio move in to stop DeVoe. The Flash touches the power plates to get extra energy to be able to follow DeVoe through his portal while Cisco and Caitlin, in Flashtime with Barry, use the ice shooter and breach to get the frozen and hovering hostages out to safety.

Barry speeds through the closing portal and is able to follow DeVoe. Barry sees DeVoe send a satellite up in the sky and races up. He uses Amunet’s metal shard bomb to destroy it. “We did it,” says a very happy Barry out loud but DeVoe mocks him, saying, “Congratulations, you destroyed a satellite.” He continues talking about the upcoming enlightenment. “Did I teach you nothing this year? Did nothing pierce that thick cowl?! Think of it – a world enlightened.” DeVoe believes within a day all soldiers will put down their arms and every nuclear weapon will be disarmed within six months. Poverty, famine, and disease will be eradicated. Plus, people will put down their phones and become curious again. He also believes he’ll teach everyone once The Enlightenment arrives, ultimately saving the world.

Barry replies, “No, you’ll just control it. You want to take away free will.” DeVoe says it’s a small price for peace but Barry doesn’t agree. “But we wouldn’t know each other! Parents wouldn’t remember their kids, husbands wouldn’t remember their wives,” says Barry. This hits a nerve with DeVoe and he tells Barry, “Good, you hit on precisely the point. Emotion is the father of all error. Chemicals in our brain that destroy us, impede progress, and the most destructive and imbalance of all is that thing you feebles call love…I learned this from experience.” With that, DeVoe leaves through another portal.

Iris and Harry use a portal to the first place Marlize and DeVoe lived together. Marlize comes out looking to fight but Harry intervenes. He tries to explain why they’re there but has difficulty getting words out. Marlize realizes Harry’s experiencing the stages of The Enlightenment. Iris tells Marlize they must stop her husband because he’s gone too far. She’s sure Marlize is aware of this since she left him. Iris reminds Marlize of a speech she gave about optimism being stronger than pessimism and that deep down she believes Marlize is an optimist. Iris says, “You asked me what I was willing to do for my husband, and now I’m going to ask you what are you willing to do for the world.”

Outside the facility, Caitlin asks Cisco for help and tells him she saw a fragment of a terrifying memory from her childhood when they were training. Cisco asks if she’s sure and she is – and she has to know what happened. He vibes them and they see Caitlin as a young girl free of her bike and reaching for the broken rearview mirror of the truck that almost hit her. Young Caitlin looks into the mirror and sees young Killer Frost in the reflection. She screams as a man asks if she’s okay and not to do that. After the Vibe, Cisco says, “Killer Frost was a part of you even then.” Caitlin replies, “The particle accelerator hadn’t exploded. How is that possible?!”

Cisco and Caitlin arrive at S.T.A.R. Labs to see that Barry knocked down one of the satellites. Barry enters and the alarms sound. Caitlin says the S.T.A.R. Labs satellite has been activated and Barry realizes it’s DeVoe. He’s using their satellite to replace the one Barry destroyed. DeVoe is locked in the secret room with Gideon and puts the power source that was Fallout inside the computer. “Let there be light,” says DeVoe. It seems The Enlightenment has just started.

The Flash Season 4 Episode 22:

Extremely well written, action-packed, and with some cute humor, season four episode 22 titled “Think Fast” is another first-rate episode this season. The episode finally revealed what’s been motivating DeVoe toward his master “Enlightenment” plan. It also included the surprise revelation that Killer Frost has been inside Caitlin since she was a child.

The stand-out performance goes to guest star Neil Sandilands who truly shines here as DeVoe’s about to give birth to his plan. The opening scene showing him using all the different meta powers he’s absorbed to take on and put down the guards at the facility is one of the best openings to a The Flash episode, period. The music of Handel’s “Messiah” in the background as he sees himself as a savior of the world while he kills most of the guards is powerful and captures just how mad DeVoe has become. In the scene later in the episode where DeVoe reveals to Barry how he believes The Enlightenment will save the world, Sandilands displays so effortlessly the false hubris and emotional hurt he’s filled with by his wife Marlize leaving him.

This episode also sets in motion what should be the blueprint of future episodes of the series…original Team Flash – Barry, Caitlin, and Cisco – working together in the field and saving the day as a true superhero team. This is what most fans have been waiting for since the reveal of Cisco and Caitlin’s powers in seasons two and three. Early in the episode, the writers have Cisco calling DeVoe a “one-man Legion of Doom” who needs to go up against “The Super Friends.” Here’s hoping this will be the new formula for the series in seasons to come: The Flash: Trinity.

As DeVoe launches his mind-wiping “Enlightenment,” it should be exciting and thrilling to see how Team Flash will stop the evil mastermind and save the Earth’s population from having their minds rebooted. Go Team Flash!

GRADE: B+

‘The Year of Spectacular Men’ Trailer Debuts Starring Zoey Deutch, Avan Jogia and Cameron Monaghan

MarVista Entertainment’s unveiled a new trailer for the romantic comedy The Year of Spectacular Men. The rom-com’s a real family affair, with actress Lea Thompson making her directorial debut on a film starring her daughters Madelyn Deutch and Zoey Deutch. Madelyn Deutch also wrote the screenplay to the 2018 theatrical release.

In addition to the Deutch siblings and their mom, the cast includes Avan Jogia (Twisted), Cameron Monaghan (Gotham), Melissa Bolona (The Hurricane Heist), Jesse Bradford (Shooter), Brandon T. Jackson (Get a Job), Zach Roerig (The Vampire Diaries), and Nicholas Braun (Whiskey Tango Foxtrot). Zoey Deutch, Howard Deutch, Gordon Gilbertson, and Parkside Pictures’ Dan Roth and Damiano Tucci produced the film.

MarVista Entertainment’s set to open the comedy in theaters on June 15, 2018.

“This has been such a joyous passion project for me and my whole family,” stated Thompson commenting on her debut as a director. “We feel incredibly lucky that our vigor and energy for The Year of Spectacular Men has been so genuinely matched by MarVista. We can’t wait to release our film with a company who truly believes in and sees the value in telling an authentic millennial woman’s story.”

The Plot: Izzy Klein has (barely) graduated from college, broken up (sorta) with her boyfriend, and is stranded in New York City with a bad case of pre-real-world millennial-itis. Unsure of what the next step is, her movie star little sister Sabrina convinces her to move back home to Los Angeles and into her shared apartment with movie star boyfriend Sebastian, where they can keep an eye on rudderless Izzy.

Emotionally unable to deal with the loss of her father, and slightly distracted by her mother Deb’s newfound love affair with loopy yogi Amythyst, Izzy funnels her energy into dating a colorful bouquet of five complicated and spectacular men: Aaron, Ross, Logan, Mikey, and Charlie, over the course of the next year. Coping just barely with the help of her trusty notebook, she falls in and out of some not so romantic romances, and figures out that when it totally feels like the end of your story, it’s often just the beginning.

‘Siren’ Picks Up an Expanded Second Season Order from Freeform

Siren TV Series Cast
Ian Verdun as Xander, Fola Evans-Akingbola as Maddie, Alex Roe as Ben, Eline Powell as Ryn, Sibongile Mlambo as Donna and Rena Owen as Helen in ‘Siren’ (Freeform/Vu Ong)

Freeform continues to draw in young adult viewers, with the network’s mermaid tale, Siren, holding the number one new drama spot among females ages 12 through 34. The show’s high ratings have earned it a second season, with the episode order increased from season one’s 10 to 16 hour-long episodes for season two.

The first season is set to conclude on Thursday, May 24, 2018.

The popular series was created by Eric Wald and Dean White. Wald and White executive produce the mermaid thriller along with Emily Whitesell, Brad Luff, Nate Hopper, and RD Robb. Whitesell is the season one showrunner.

Season one of Siren is described as an “epic tale about the coastal town of Bristol Cove, known for its legend of once being home to mermaids. The arrival of a mysterious girl, Ryn (Eline Powell), wreaks havoc on the small fishing town as she proves the folklore true. Using their resources, marine biologists Ben (Alex Roe) and Maddie (Fola Evans-Akingbola) must work together to find out who and what drove this primal hunter of the deep sea to land and if there are more like her. Xander (Ian Verdun) is a deep-sea fisherman looking to uncover the truth and Helen (Rena Owen), the town eccentric, knows more than she lets on.”

In addition to announcing the season two renewal, Freeform also announced details on the new series, Besties, a half-hour comedy created by Kenya Barris and Ranada Shepard. Per the network, Besties is a multi-camera sitcom that “explores friendship, identity, race, and class as two lifelong best friends use each other to get through some of the toughest challenges that they will ever face – figuring out who they are and who they want to be.”

The network’s press release announcing the Siren renewal and other projects also provided an update on the talent behind the scenes. Freeform’s proud, and rightfully so, of its record of gender equality and currently half of its episodic directors are female, diverse, or LGBTQ. Freeform also claims 60% of their series’ writers are female or diverse. Plus, all the network’s original shows have at least one female producer.
