‘Orphan Black’ Final Season Premiere Date Announced

BBC America confirmed the final season of Orphan Black will premiere on June 10, 2017. Season five will air on Saturdays at 10pm ET/PT, with Emmy Award winner Tatiana Maslany once again portraying multiple clones in the fascinating, critically acclaimed sci-fi series. The cast of season five also includes Jordan Gavaris (Felix), Maria Doyle Kennedy (Mrs. S), Kristian Bruun (Donnie), Kevin Hanchard (Detective Art Bell), Evelyne Brochu (Delphine), and Ari Millen (Ira and Castor clones).

In support of the show’s final season, Maslany and her fellow Orphan Black cast members will make their first appearance at Paleyfest LA on March 23, 2017. They’ll be joined for a panel discussion by Maslany’s acting double Kathryn Alexandre and series co-creator/writer Graeme Manson.

During last summer’s San Diego Comic Con, Maslany provided a hint at what’s in store for season five of the series. Asked if we’ll see Alison back working with her sestras, Maslany replied, “Yeah, I think so. She’s kind of in the woods with Helena so they have an unexpected – again they’re forced into confinement with each other but now it’s Helena’s world, Helena’s home. It’s different. I would love to see those two do a little bit more together since it’s such an unlikely pairing.”

Maslany also believes it may be possible for Rachel to find redemption before the series comes to an end. “I think she reconciles, too, that she’s a clone. She’s like the rest of them, that she’s not different,” explained Maslany. “I feel like there’s a deep vulnerability that we’ve seen over the seasons, and as much as she sort of goes about things in a very misguided way, in a very cruel way, her intention is like all of the clones to just have some control over her life and just have some autonomy and some kind of volition in it.”

Brenton Thwaites will star in Ghosts of War, a supernatural psychological thriller from writer/director Eric Bress (The Butterfly Effect). Filming’s expected to get underway in March, with Miscellaneous Entertainment’s D. Todd Shepherd, Joe Simpson, and Shelley Madison attached as producers and financing the thriller. Highland Film Group is shopping the film to international buyers.

“I’m excited for the chance to create an elevated thriller about WWII soldiers that’s more relevant today than ever,” stated writer/director Bress. “Brenton Thwaites is the perfect choice to play a hardened soldier fighting through the trauma of war just as he’s thrust into the most mind-shattering battle of his life.”

“We’re thrilled to bring Eric’s next intelligent and layered vision to life as he continues to push the definition of genre. Brenton is an incredibly talented actor at the crescendo of an already impressive career, and we feel fortunate to have him as our lead,” added producer Shepherd.

Thwaites recently wrapped up work on the fifth film of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. His credits also include Home and Away, Oculus, The Signal, Son of a Gun, and Gods of Egypt. Thwaites has Office Uprising with Jane Levy and An Interview with God with David Strathairn expected to open in theaters later this year.

The Plot: Ghosts of War follows five battle-hardened American soldiers assigned to hold a French Chateau near the end of World War II. Formerly occupied by the Nazi high command, this respite quickly descends into madness when they encounter a supernatural enemy far more terrifying than anything seen on the battlefield. Thwaites will play Chris Goodson, a natural leader and brilliant strategist who is plagued by battle fatigue.
