James Corden, the new host of The Late Late Show, and his buddy David Beckham teamed up on an ad for D&J Briefs, undies that are supportive and make men feel “cradled.” The mock ad shows the two clad only in their tighty-whities striking poses while showing just how comfy their D&J briefs are.

And at the end, Corden delivers the line that sums it all up: “D&J Briefs: It’s underwear for a man with a great body…and David Beckham.”

Bitsie Tulloch Interview – ‘Grimm’ Season 4, Big Changes, and Hexenbiests

Bitsie Tulloch on Grimm Season 4 and Hexenbiests
Bitsie Tulloch as Juliette Silverton (Photo by: Scott Green/NBC)

NBC’s Grimm is currently in the middle of one of the show’s best seasons to date. Characters have undergone major shifts, and none more so than Juliette played by Bitsie Tulloch. And as Tulloch explained in a conference call with journalists, she couldn’t be more pleased with what the writers have come up with for Juliette and how her character has evolved over the course of four seasons.

Can you talk about getting into your character as a Hexenbiest? How much is digital and how much is makeup?

Bitsie Tulloch: “I just finished an interview and someone was asking how much fun was it to shoot the scene with Claire, and I said we really need to give credit where credit is due. Because it takes so much time to actually get into prosthetic makeup, we simply don’t have the time to do it. So when the characters are morphed, that was our stunt doubles. Also, that was a really intense scene to film. And, you know, the first time they started shooting it, Claire’s double fractured a rib. So we had to reshoot with a different double the next day.

What happened when we morph is that we’ll shoot the scene, and then everybody kind of has a different way that they morph. Like I have a little bit of a head toss and I hiss. I don’t know that anyone else really makes a sound, but I’ve always sort of interpreted it like snake-like. I always hiss and I kind of toss my head. But when that happens, they apply little yellow drops with latex on top of our makeup. And then they’ll remove them and we’ll continue the scene. So, that’s what happens with the morphing. If you go onto my Instagram and my Twitter, whenever I’m ADR I kind of take pictures so that people can see what it looks like during the process of the VFX team going in and sort of painting me in as Hexenbiest.

As far as psychologically, and it has been such a great storyline because there’s such a push-pull with her where at first she really didn’t want. She just wanted to have her normal life back. But now that she’s sort of learning how to control the Hexenbiest within, she’s realizing just how powerful this makes her.

And to an extent, as much as she’s been able to contribute to the Scooby squad as a veterinarian and then also as somebody sort of good with a gun. This is the first time that she has sort of supernatural powers. So it’s really the question going back and forth of, ‘Do I want to be normal again and be with Nick? Or do I want to stay a Hexenbiest because this is kind of fun?’ And I think the Hexenbiest are pretty wicked.

She’s definitely going to the dark side and that’s the intention. I think that’s really where they’re going with the character at least in the immediate future and for the rest of the season.”

Do you want her to stay Hexenbiest?

Bitsie Tulloch: “I think it’s pretty fun. You know, I’ve had pretty crazy arcs for my character since season one. Season one she was rather passive in order to serve the story, with Nick kind of hiding everything from her. And then season two she was in a comma and lost her memory and had this love triangle with Renard. In season three she finally found out and was able to kind of join the Grimm gang and that was a really fun season.

But this has really changed everything. I was really thrilled when I saw the first script. We had no idea and I remember texting with the cast and everyone was like, ‘What?! This is so crazy. What an awesome idea.’ And, yes, going forward it’s adding a new element to the series for sure.”

Why do you suppose Juliette wants to stay with Nick? How do they get over this latest wrinkle in their relationship?

Bitsie Tulloch: “Well I think the reason they’ve stayed together thus far is that there’s a lot of love there. And, you know, it’s been one of the things in both of their lives that even though it’s sort of wreaked a lot of havoc, you always go back to home. I think he represents home for her and vice versa. And they’ve so far kind of managed to get through everything together even if it’s been tough. So the initial question is how are they going to handle this because this is the craziest thing obviously they’ve had to deal with.

Because the Hexenbiest are mortal enemies of the Grimms, they just want to kill them and vice versa which is why Juliette took so long to tell him the truth because she was terrified both that he would have a gut reaction and go after her and kill her.

Also, it’s been made apparent to her by this point that she’s incredibly powerful, more so than Adalind or Renard who are both Hexenbiest could ever dream of being. And she doesn’t know how to really control it yet, so if he started to attack her and she morphs into a Hexenbiest could she kill him. So, I think that makes sense.

But really the question going forward is can they live like this or not. I think she’s kind of given up hope because she looks in the mirror and all she sees is this ugly monster. And she hasn’t really embraced it yet so she’s like, ‘I can’t handle the way that you look at me when I look like this and this is what I am now.’ Juliette tried with Henrietta and there seems to be no cure, so that’s really the question going forward. It’s almost becoming like a Romeo and Juliette situation where, yes they’re in love but they can’t really be together the way it is right now.”

Could you talk about the collaboration with the writers? How much have they clued you in as to where this is going to go?

Bitsie Tulloch: “Sometimes we know more and we have a little bit of a heads-up. And then sometimes what I’ve found with the showrunners, Jim Kouf and David Greenwalt, is that they’re really open to ideas and stuff. It’s very much a collaborative process, but a lot of the times stuff changes because the show moves pretty quickly. […]They go on Facebook. They go on social media, and they see the stuff that the fans really like. They’ll give them more of that, and so the Hexenbiest has been incredibly popular among the fans so don’t expect that to be going anywhere anytime soon.

I think sometimes they sort of like seeing the cast reaction to crazy storylines, you know? I remember nobody knew maybe either the beginning of season two or season three, whenever Hank found out. We were all like, ‘Wow, that was early.’ We didn’t know he was going to find out that early that Nick was going to tell him. And then there have been a couple other storylines, the thing with Adalind being pregnant… That was another one that happened, honestly, part of the reason that happened is that Claire Coffee actually got pregnant.

Bree Turner was pregnant season two and they shot around it and this time they were like, ‘Are we really going to shot around another pregnancy? Or is this actually kind of a blessing in disguise? We could add a sort of new element to the show using her actual pregnancy.’ So sometimes stuff just pops up and they’re responding to it.

But yes, the Hexenbiest thing I didn’t know about. The season finale for this season is the biggest game-changer we have ever had. I mean, people will lose their minds. There’s going to be…gosh, I don’t know what I can say without giving it away other than yes, we’ve never done anything this big on the show before. So that’s going to really change everything going into season five and the Juliette Hexenbiest storyline has a lot to do with that. The reality is going forward you’re going to see a lot of the push-pull with psychologically wanting this power. I think it adds a really interesting element to the story for her to turn really, really dark.”

If you could be any Wesen which Wesen would you be?

Bitsie Tulloch: “Well I like the Wesen I am right now, that’s for sure. It’s fun getting to walk into these scenes and basically just kick ass. And, you know, she has power over everyone. I mean she’s just stronger and faster and she could have easily killed Adalind if she wanted to. I don’t know that she was mentally prepared to do that yet. So, that’s always been really fun.

Prior to becoming a Hexenbiest, my answer was always Mauvais Dentes which was the saber tooth tiger from season two just because I like how sort of quiet and powerful and stealthy that character was. It always reminded me of that sort of viral YouTube video of the Ninja cat who you turn the camera away and then it’s three feet closer to you. It’s just really spooky. So I used to say the Mauvais Dentes but right now I’m obviously really enjoying this storyline as the Hexenbiest.”

Can these guys ever get a break and have a really good period between the two of them?

Bitsie Tulloch: “No, I was just saying there’s no conflict in stability, really. I don’t know that a stable, loving relationship makes for great television. So it’s funny because the fans constantly, you know, until we actually did the Adalind and Juliette fight that was the biggest thing everybody wanted was for Juliette to have it out with Adalind and kick some butt. And so she did that. Now all I’m really seeing is Nick and Juliette need to get married. They should just get married already.

It’s kind of fun seeing the fans come to Juliette’s defense. ‘Well, Nick better be understanding about this. Like look at how much he’s put her through.’ So that’s been really fun for me. I’m like yes, he’s put her through so much. Like, ‘Come on man! You’ve got to be understanding about this.'”

But yes, at some point you hope. I don’t know that they’re planning on doing it anytime soon because the writers are having so much fun with this sort of darker character. You would hope that at some point maybe they’ll get married…and actually have like one day of rest.”

How big of a role does Juliette have in this season’s finale?

Bitsie Tulloch: “Everything. She is going to cause major, major problems for basically everyone involved. The reality is she misses Nick and she loves him. But she just can’t imagine a way for them to be able to stay together under the circumstances. She’s been told by numerous people now there’s absolutely nothing she can do about it. And so what else would you do? I mean, you have to embrace your new life. She has to go forward with that. She is dead set on embracing it and she’s like, ‘If this is how it’s going to be, then I might as well be the best Hexenbiest I can.’

There’s a darkness to that that’s going to seep into her veins. You’re not going to really see the sort of sweet, loving girlfriend that everybody’s gotten used to for the last few seasons.”

You talked quite a bit about the changes and what might be coming up with Juliette’s continuing changes, but do you see her losing her humanity through this? Is that going to be less and less of a quality?

Bitsie Tulloch: “I think the more that sort of evil takes hold inside her and she realizes that there’s really nothing she can do to get back to her normal life… Like I said before, she really needs to embrace it. This is not a human character anymore. She’s a witch. She is kind of a monster but that’s her new reality. That’s the new normal for her, so to speak. I think that, yes, I mean if we’re going to a really, really dark place, then that is what it would entail.”

We haven’t seen that all the characters know about her change. Is she worried about reactions from Rosalee and Monroe in particular?

Bitsie Tulloch: “Yes, for sure. I mean that’s something that’s going to be resolved and sort of played out through the rest of season four. Initially of course, she has to do deal with Nick’s reaction. But, yes.

It’s scary. Her friends have known her to be one way for this amount of time. And then all of the sudden she’s [a Hexenbiest]. They’ve all, as a group, collectively basically been hating on Hexenbiest for years and now she is one. She’s one of those people. And the reality is too is that there’s probably a little bit of resentment because they did this to her, you know? They asked her to do this for them because Rosalee and Monroe were coming under so much fire and in order to protect them, Nick needed to get his Grimm powers back. The only way to do that was to use Juliette as a vessel, and she agreed to do it.

But, you know, she would never have done that if she had known this would be the side effect. This was not something that she’s initially really excited about. I think that’s something that going forward is going to be pretty complicated.”

Is there anything else other than the finale that you can tease that’s coming up?

Bitsie Tulloch: “You haven’t seen the last of the Royals. There’s a new Royal who’s coming to town who’s kind of taking charge. So that’s a storyline that’s coming up. Obviously dealing with the whole Adalind being pregnant storyline is coming up. And then it’s definitely a big episode when there is a final reveal with Juliette and her friends and their reaction to that. Then, really, it’s kind of about her going to the dark side going forward.”

Part two will air on May 31st at 9pm ET/PT.

The Plot:

The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe begins with a portrait of a young Norma Jeane Mortenson as she battles a lonely and loveless existence with an absent mother. Despite the odds, Norma Jeane blossoms into a funny, smart and ambitious woman and soon reinvents herself to become the symbol of an era. She revels in stardom, yet remains a fragile artist, desperate for the approval and protection of men. The outside world never truly sees or understands the real Marilyn, a woman so different from her public persona. As her fame grows, all three of her marriages crumble beneath her quite publicly, including her relationships with Joe DiMaggio (Morgan) and Arthur Miller.

Ultimately, Marilyn could never control her inner demons and the onslaught of mental illness inherited from her mother, Gladys (Sarandon) – a woman she loves, hates and wants desperately to save. Although her movie studio told the world that Marilyn’s mother was dead, it is the great secret of Marilyn’s life that Gladys remained a vital and troubling part of her world. As Marilyn cares for her mother, her obsession with President John F. Kennedy drives her over the edge and, ultimately, into an insane asylum. Still, as Marilyn Monroe soldiers on, she gives the performance of her life, successfully hiding her darkest secrets from the world.

Michael York Profile: Film and Stage Actor

Michael York Biography and Film Profile

Actor Michael York has thrilled audiences since his debut film, The Taming of the Shrew, with the illustrious Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton as his co-stars in 1967. He was only 25 years old at the time, but that film set hearts aflame across the world and won him instant stardom.

Michael York first appeared on March 27, 1942 in Fulmer, Buckinghamshire, England where he was born. As a lad at Bromley Grammar School, he showed an interest in theatre and appeared in a production of Yellow Jacket in 1956. This led to his getting a small part in the big West End production of Hamlet as a member of the Youth Theatre. As a youngster he toured with the National Youth Theatre prior to his receiving a degree in English from University of Oxford in 1964.

Michael York Profile

The following year York joined the National Theatre under the direction of film and stage star Laurence Olivier. It was there he first met Italian director Franco Zeffirelli, who cast him in Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing in 1965. Then, it was Zeffirelli’s fateful casting in the Taylor-Burton Taming of the Shrew in 1967 which changed York from an unknown stage actor to an international film star. He followed that hit with another box-office smash of Paramount’s, Romeo and Juliet (1968), co-starring with Leonard Whiting as Romeo, Olivia Hussey as Juliet, and he as Tybalt.

By the time we interviewed the very pleasant Mr. York a few years ago, he had already starred with musical icon Liza Minnelli in the Oscar®-winning Cabaret (1972), the trilogy The Three Musketeers (1973), The Four Musketeers (1975), and The Return of the Musketeers (1989), as well as the sci-fi smash Logan’s Run (1976). In 1997 he starred as Basil Exposition in Mike Myers’ hilarious comedy Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and in the sequels Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999) and Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002) and won new fans.

As he told this reviewer, the distinguished actor loves doing comedies.

“Oh, yes, I love comedy. It gives me a change of pace. It makes it very grand to have this ‘trilogy’ of Austin Powers films behind me!”

Obviously, young people love these movies and it gives York a whole new audience. “Yes, it does,” he admits. “It’s quite astounding when some little kid comes up tome at an airport quoting lines from my films. And he says them better than I do!”

One of York’s favorite films was Borstal Boy (2000). The World War II-era story focuses on a 16-year-old IRA soldier who gets sent to jail for attempting to set off a bomb in Liverpool. Once he’s in prison, he learns to love his English enemies by having a romantic fling with the warden’s daughter and a gay inmate named Danny.

Michael York Profile

Borstal Boy is a film made in Ireland based on the life of Irish author Brendan Behan,” explained York. “It’s about his rough and tumble youth. It was in the borstal that Behan encountered a very enlightened school director who encouraged him to write. Out of this very unpromising beginning a great writer was born.”

“I play the director of the borstal,” said York. “ I loved the film and it’s charming. American actor Shawn Hatosy played Behan as a youngster. He did a fantastic job.”

We couldn’t let York get away without saying a few words about Cabaret, his most famous film, and his co-star Liza Minnelli. He played the part of a sexually-confused man in 1930s Berlin.

“He was sort of bisexual and didn’t go all the way,” York explained. “It was quite risque for those times. I think, in retrospect, it was daring. It didn’t seem to me to be at the time. It was only afterwards people asked me if I had concerns about playing a gay man. I said, ’Well no, this is my job.’ As an actor you play humanity, every sort of character. Later I thought it was a bit of an advance at such a time.”

He enjoys playing different characters totally unlike himself.

“I have always hated to be pigeonholed,” he continued. “I think that’s one thing I an say about my career: I’ve always tried to bring the changes and not get identified with any one type.”

He was nominated for an Emmy in 2001 for his guest-starring role on the television series The Lot, a spoof about Hollywood in 1937.

What does an Emmy nomination do for an actor’s career?

“I have no idea,” he said with a laugh. “I suppose it’s a mark of distinction. I think a lot of people on the show were pleased because they didn’t have the benefit of taking out huge ads in the trade papers. It was very nice. Alas, I didn’t get it.”

York has no qualms about moving into more mature roles.

“Well, we go on and we mature. That’s the great thing about it,” he said. “You look forward to what comes next. Doors close behind you—maybe such as the juvenile roles on which I had a good run, let it be said— now more mature roles are coming my way.”

TWC-Dimension has just picked up Gold directed by Stephen Gaghan and starring Matthew McConaughey and Edgar Ramirez. The Weinsteins made the announcement today, however, they didn’t confirm when we can expect to see Gold in theaters.

Patrick Massett and John Zinman wrote the script, and Black Bear Pictures is financing the mining drama which is inspired by a true story. Teddy Schwarzman, Michael Nozi, Massett, Zinman and McConaughey are producing the film.

“Harvey and I were so intrigued by the unique and compelling story behind Gold and couldn’t be more excited to work with this highly esteemed group of filmmakers and artists,” stated Bob Weinstein. “We loved working with Teddy on The Imitation Game and we see this movie having the potential to be both a commercial and artistic success.”

The Plot: Gold is inspired by the true story about the 1993 Bre-X Mineral Corporation mining scandal where large amounts of gold were reportedly discovered in the Indonesian jungle. Matthew McConaughey stars as a failing businessman and prospector that teams up with a luckless geologist/explorer played by Edgar Ramirez. The duo heads into the Indonesian jungle on the trail of undiscovered gold.

Cirque’s incredible imagination will help bring the fantasy world of Oz vividly to life and give this great show a modern spin on the age-old story we all love.”

The Wiz was adapted from L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The original Broadway show opened in 1975, ran for four years, and earned seven Tony Awards.

Executive producer Zadan said, “We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to not only produce this as our next live musical for NBC, but to then see it move to Broadway for a new generation to experience.” Executive producer Meron added, “It will be a joy to work again with Kenny Leon, who did Steel Magnolias and Raisin in the Sun with us.”

Casting will be announced closer to the air date.

The Plot:

The Wiz tells the classic story hundreds of millions of people have read in the L. Frank Baum books and then saw in the much-beloved 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, but retold in an African-American/multicultural context. Dorothy, a young woman from Kansas, is swept up in a tornado and relocated to a fantasy world that is inhabited by munchkins, good and bad witches, and, of course, flying monkeys. She eventually takes a path down a yellow brick road to find a wizard who can help her go home and along the way meets a scarecrow, tin man and cowardly lion, who all learn to help one another.

‘Mortal Instruments’ TV Series ‘Shadowhunters’ Coming to ABC Family

Mortal Instruments TV series coming to ABC Family

When The Mortal Instruments film failed to catch on at the box office, plans for a sequel were quickly scrapped and it appeared fans of Cassandra Clare’s bestselling book series wouldn’t be able to see Clary or Jace transition to the big screen ever again. And while there isn’t a feature film starring Lily Collins or Jamie Campbell Bower in the works, there is now an ABC Family series moving forward based on the books and titled Shadowhunters. The cast of the new series has not yet been announced, however ABC Family did reveal that Ed Decter (Helix) will be the Shadowhunters executive producer and showrunner.

Author Clare helped make the official announcement via a video posted to Twitter:

Shadowhunters marks ABC Family’s first scripted saga-to-series project, and shooting is expected to begin in May 2015. “Shadowhunters is a big epic saga that will resonate with viewers who come to ABC Family for the Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and Twilight franchises,” stated Tom Ascheim, President, ABC Family and Karey Burke, Executive Vice President, Programming and Development, ABC Family. “A New York Times bestseller for 122-consecutive weeks, with over 35 million copies in print worldwide, Shadowhunters is the perfect story to share with our audience.”

And author Clare added, “I’m excited to see ABC Family bring the world of the Shadowhunters to life. As a huge fan of long-form television drama, I can’t wait to see the story unfold and for the fans to have more time with the world and the characters.”

The Plot:

Based on the bestselling young adult fantasy book series The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, Shadowhunters follows 18-year-old Clary Fray, who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she thinks she is but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters – human-angel hybrids who hunt down demons. When her mother Jocelyn is kidnapped, Clary is thrown into the world of demon hunting with mysterious Shadowhunter Jace and her best friend, Simon. Now living among faeries, warlocks, vampires and werewolves, Clary begins a journey of self-discovery as she learns more about her past and what her future may hold.
