Outlander fans, prepare to rejoice. Starz has officially set a premiere date for Outlander, and the network unveiled the official poster for season one of the original series based on Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling book series.
Outlander will debut on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT, kicking off a 16 episode first season run.
The series is executive produced by Ronald D. Moore (he also penned the first two episodes) and directed by John Dahl. Outlander was shot on location in Scotland and stars Caitriona Balfe, Tobias Menzie, Sam Heughan, Graham McTavish, Gary Lewis, Lotte Verbeek, and Duncan Lacroix.
In releasing the official key art for the show, Starz supplied details on its creation:
The poster depicts Claire (Caitriona Balfe), a married British combat nurse from 1945 who mysteriously falls back in time to 1743 Scotland, where she is torn between her husband Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), a Scottish warrior who comes to her rescue.
The image represents Claire’s physical and emotional journey. At the start of the series, she is a woman who has been transported into the past, but she’s reaching back and trying to stay connected to the life and husband that are now beyond her reach. Starz collaborated with The Refinery and photographer Frank Ockenfels 3 to create the key art which was shot on location in the Scottish highlands.
The Plot:
The Outlander series spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history, and adventure in one epic tale. It follows Claire Randall as she navigates the hidden dangers of 18th century Scotland, an unknown world where her freedom and very life are at risk. When she is forced to marry Jamie Fraser, a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate affair is ignited that tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

The 'NY Med' crew (Photo Credit: Donna Svenneik/ABC)
ABC will be taking viewers behind the scenes of real hospitals once again with NY MED premiering on June 24, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT. The eight-part series, which was filmed at Manhattan’s New York-Presbyterian Hospital and Newark’s University Hospital, pulls back the hospital curtains and allows viewers to see doctors and nurses as they treat everything from gunshot victims to cancer patients.
“A medical crisis will bring most of us to the hospital at some point,” said executive producer Terence Wrong. “Where we live can be destiny. NY MED offers a stark contrast between the patient populations of Manhattan and Newark, which play out for viewers as this series unfolds.”
The Details:
Adrenaline-charged and poignant, this limited series—like its award-winning predecessors-is a deep dive into the volatile world of big city hospitals. Faithful viewers might remember the dynamic trio of nurses who deliver compassionate care and stern advice in equal measure. Debbie Yi, the ER resident who became a doctor after her sister fell in the subway and lost a leg, also returns to NY MED. Each one of these returning characters faces a gamut of personal crises that impact their jobs and their lives.
The surgeons of NY MED don’t believe in lost causes. A mother of three is sent home to die when a top hospital decides the tumor on her heart is inoperable. “Not so,” says New York-Presbyterian’s Len Girardi, a cardiac surgeon, who attempts the surgery others say, is impossible. Ashley Winter, his colleague at New York-Presbyterian, is a young female urologist who struggles to avoid becoming “emotionally invested” in the outcomes of her patients. And a third NYP surgeon, Jonathan Chen, treats a young Marine felled by a stroke at boot camp who subsequently discovers that the Marine’s heart is severely enlarged.
Roosevelt Hospital neuroradiologist Alejandro Berenstein treats a 2-year old girl who will die if the dangerously swollen blood vessels in her brain burst. Her terrified dad, an officer in the Coast Guard, must put his faith in a novel procedure that involves injecting glue into the brain. In this same episode, filmed at Roosevelt and its sister hospital St. Luke’s, ER resident Amy Caggiula goes toe-to-toe with the cops who surround the bed of a handcuffed patient arrested for disorderly conduct.
But Newark’s University hospital takes the word “emergency” to another level. Doctors and nurses have seen close to 7,000 gunshot cases in the past decade. The staff says their ER is “off the hook.” A student pilot arrives injured but alive after a plane crash killed his instructor. A bleeding man arrives in the ER after being hit in the head with a hammer. The police comedy Angie Tribeca (that title may change) from Steve and Nancy Carell has been greenlit by TBS. The comedy series is set to star Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation, The Office), Jere Burns, Deon Cole, and Andree Vermeulen, with Steve Carell directing and co-writing the pilot along with his wife, Nancy. The Carells are executive producing the character-driven comedy with Campbell Smith and Thom Hinkle.
The first episode of the 10-episode order will feature guest appearances by Gary Cole, Lisa Kudrow, Alfred Molina, Nancy Carell, Hayes Macarthur, and Matthew Glave.
“Angie Tribeca is a hilarious spoof of police procedurals in the spirit of The Naked Gun, with a terrific cast and a wickedly funny point of view,” stated Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “We’re proud to be working with the outstanding comedy talents behind Angie Tribeca, especially Nancy and Steve Carell and the incredibly talented Rashida Jones.”
The Plot:
The single-camera comedy focuses on an eccentric but brilliant group of LAPD detectives who investigate crime, reveal way too much personal information and refuse to rest until justice has been served…sort of. Jones plays Angie Tribeca, a lone wolf who’s capable, committed, strong and not thrilled when her boss (Burns) tells her she has to work with a partner (Macarthur).
Seth MacFarlane’s upcoming comedy A Million Ways to Die in the West offers up a new restricted (not for work, small children, or those easily offended) trailer focusing on the ways people actually died in the Wild West. MacFarlane produced, directed, co-wrote, and stars in the R-rated comedy coming to theaters on May 30, 2014. Co-starring alongside MacFarlane are Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried, Giovanni Ribisi, Neil Patrick Harris, Sarah Silverman and Liam Neeson.
The Plot:
After Albert backs out of a gunfight, his fickle girlfriend leaves him for another man. When a mysterious and beautiful woman rides into town, she helps him find his courage and they begin to fall in love. But when her husband, a notorious outlaw, arrives seeking revenge, the farmer must put his newfound courage to the test.

TNT is moving forward on the police drama Public Morals from writer/director/executive producer and star Edward Burns. Falling Skies‘ team of Steven Spielberg, Justin Falvey, and Darryl Frank are attached as executive producers on the series which received a 10 episode pick-up from the network.
Starring alongside Burns are Michael Rapaport, Elizabeth Masucci, with TNT eyeing a 2015 premiere of the 1960s-set drama.
Public Morals‘ cast also includes Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Wass M. Stevens, Keith Nobbs, Austin Stowell, Patrick Murney, Katrina Bowden, Lyndon Smith, and Brian Wiles.
“Edward Burns is one of my favorite filmmakers, and in Public Morals, he has created an incredibly authentic series, inspired by his own life growing up in a family of cops in 1960s New York,” said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “We’ve seen many stories about organized crime and corruption in the city, but this is a different way into that world as seen through the eyes of Irish-Americans, many of whom worked as police officers. We’re also excited to have the inspired creative guidance of Steven Spielberg and our partners at Amblin Television on what is certain to be one of the most talked-about new series of 2015.”
The Plot:
The series centers on New York City’s Public Morals Division, where cops walk the line between morality and criminality as the temptations that come from dealing with all kinds of vice threaten to get the better of them. The show centers on Officer Terry Muldoon (Burns), who is determined to raise his sons to be honest and hardworking as he deals with the city’s dark underbelly.
Rapaport plays Muldoon’s partner, Charlie Bullman, the muscle of the Public Morals Division, and Masucci is Christine, Muldoon’s wife.
