Opening in theaters on Friday, May 9th 2014, Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return is a new take on the classic world of Oz. The 3D musical finds Glee‘s Lea Michele providing the voice of Dorothy and in this interview courtesy of Clarius Entertainment, Michele discusses her lifelong connection with the fictional character.

Michele also talks about finding the right voice for Dorothy, the story, the film’s music, and what audiences can expect from this family-friendly animated movie.

The Plot:

Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return is a 3D-animated musical based on the adventure books by Roger Stanton Baum, the great-grandson of L. Frank Baum. A continuation of one of the world’s most popular and beloved fairy tales, Legends of Oz finds Dorothy (Lea Michele) waking to post-tornado Kansas, only to be whisked back to Oz to try to save her old friends the Scarecrow (Dan Aykroyd), the Lion (Jim Belushi), the Tin Man (Kelsey Grammer) and Glinda (Bernadette Peters) from a devious new villain, the Jester (Martin Short).

Wiser the owl (Oliver Platt), Marshal Mallow (Hugh Dancy), China Princess (Megan Hilty), and Tugg the tugboat (Patrick Stewart) join Dorothy on her latest magical journey through the colorful landscape of Oz to restore order and happiness to Emerald City.

History Channel Brings Back ‘Big Rig Bounty Hunters’

The second season of Big Rig Bounty Hunters will kick off on May 22, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT on History, with six teams competing to recover hijacked cargo and rigs in the action-packed reality series. The two-person teams track down stolen cargo, recovering millions of dollars worth of items for trucking companies and collecting a bounty for each job accomplished successfully.

History says season two of the series will find the teams attempting to “prove they are the fastest, smartest and sometimes just the luckiest of the bunch. This season will feature multiple truck hunts with three teams competing against each other in Ohio and three teams in Texas.”

Big Rig Bounty Hunters Teams:

Shawn & Vince (Ohio): Returning cast members Shawn & Vince are considered the “team to beat” this season as they’ve recovered more loads in their career than most of their competition combined. Motivated by their education from the school of hard knocks, they are not interested in letting anyone take away their reputation or money.

Big T & Beck (Ohio): Big T and Beck are both veteran truck drivers in Ohio and have been dating for four years. They are the only Big Rig Bounty Hunter team with a female member which they believe works to their advantage. Beck proudly refers to herself as “the bait” as she can successfully go to locations and speak with male truckers without looking like a bounty hunter. Big T is a massive man, but he can’t claim to be the exclusive “muscle” on the team since Beck is a second-degree black belt.

The Wolf Brothers (Ohio): Dave and Don Wolf are identical twins and have been trucking together for over 30-years. They’ve spent the last few years chasing after missing trucks so that they can stay closer to home to keep an eye on their elderly mother. They dress the same so when they are on a hunt and dealing with an adversary they can appear to be one person while the other is recovering the load. Trucking and family is all they know – they are the nicest yet trickiest twins you’d ever meet.

Marshall & Korchenko (Texas): Marshall and Korchenko proved during season one that they know the truck hunting business and can recover important cargo. But the days of being the only team on the hunt when a valuable truck and load go missing are gone. They need to step up their game and protect their territory now that there’s new blood in town. Marshall is a family man and loves all of his extended family members except one – his cousin Michael Hoffman from the competing Big Rig Bounty team of “Michael & Chad”.

Michael & Chad (Texas): Michael is a truck driver, biker and proud Texan who is either your best friend or worst enemy. Michael is also the soon to be father-in-law to his partner Chad who is the Deputy Sheriff. They teamed up for Big Rig Bounty hunting to use Michael’s biker contacts and Chad’s law enforcement experience to beat the crooks. Chad’s first job is to keep Michael out of jail and recover the missing trucks without breaking the law. They are the classic odd couple but have a talent for finding trucks that nobody else can.

Danny & Willy (Texas): Danny and Willy Holden are a father and son team that has been in the trucking industry for several generations. Danny’s father is famous in Texas for registering over a million miles as a trucker. Both Danny and Willy want to carry on the prestigious Holden name as the premier Big Rig Bounty Hunters in Texas. They proudly claim to be the best at driving trucks, fixing engines and finishing fights. They do everything the “cowboy way,” which means they do what they say and don’t go home until the job is done.

‘Gotham’ Gets a Series Order and an Extended Trailer

It’s a good day to be a fan of Gotham. Fox has given a first season order to the dramatic series based on the DC comic book characters and the network’s also released the first extended trailer for the upcoming fall series. Executive produced by Bruno Heller, John Stephens, and Danny Cannon, Gotham stars Ben McKenzie as Detective James Gordon, Jada Pinkett Smith as Fish Mooney, Donal Logue as Harvey Bullock, and David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne. The cast also includes Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot, Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle, Erin Richards as Barbara Kean, Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth, and Zabryna Guevara as Captain Essen.

The Plot:

Gotham is an origin story of the great DC Comics Super-Villains and vigilantes, revealing an entirely new chapter that has never been told.

WGN America Wants More of ‘Salem’

Salem will be back for a second season, as just announced by WGN America President and General Manager Matt Cherniss. The thrilling supernatural drama earned a second season pickup just three episodes into season one after averaging 1.7 million viewers, which is a 776% increase over the network’s normal adults 18-49 viewership numbers.

“At WGN America, we are committed to delivering compelling, brand-defining programming rich with fascinating characters and Salem has done just that,” said Cherniss. “Brannon Braga, Adam Simon, the talented cast and our great partners at Fox 21 have opened up an intriguing world that has captivated viewers. We look forward to bringing more great storytelling, scares and surprises to viewers as the saga unfolds.”

“I could not be more thrilled or more proud of our cast, writers and crew who made this show come alive,” said Braga. “The fans have been fantastic and we plan to continue keeping them on the edge of their seats.”

Filming will begin later this year on the 13 episode second season.

The Plot:

Salem boldly re-imagines the infamous witch trials in the 17th century Massachusetts town. The storyline follows Captain John Alden (Shane West) returning from war to his hometown of Salem where he finds it in the grip of a witch panic. Crushed that his lost love, Mary Sibley (Janet Montgomery), is now married to his old nemesis, John is unaware she is also secretly the ruling witch of Salem, and her witches are running the witch trials.

‘The Comeback’ is Making a Comeback

That headline was too easy, wasn’t it? HBO is officially bringing back The Comeback for a new (short) season that will debut this fall. Announcing the comeback, HBO Programming President Michael Lombardo said, “The Comeback holds a special place in the hearts of its many fans, including many of us here at HBO. I can’t wait to find out what Valerie’s been up to since we last met.”

Series star/co-creator Lisa Kudrow also commented on the return of the series: “It was almost too fun play Valerie Cherish the first time around. I look forward to revisiting this resilient and ironically self-unaware character.”

“I’m so excited to be working with Valerie Cherish again,” added co-creator/executive producer Michael Patrick King. “It’s great to be able to continue her story and I’m thrilled to have The Comeback come back to HBO, where it all started.”

In addition to Kudrow, The Comeback‘s upcoming limited season run will star Lance Barber, Dan Bucatinsky, Robert Michael Morris, Laura Silverman and Damian Young. Filming will begin this month in LA.

‘Veronica Mars’ Blu-ray Review

Confession: I have not watched every episode of Veronica Mars. In fact, I haven’t watched more episodes than I have actually watched. But the limited background that I have in the world of Veronica Mars the series paid off while watching Veronica Mars the movie, as I caught a few things those who are completely out of the loop on the show wouldn’t catch. That limited background also helped in determining whether the film works as a complete stand-alone for those who’ve never seen a single episode of the series which ran for three seasons back in the mid-2000s. The answer to that question is yes, although the movie may seem a little sitcom-ish in places.

After a brief recap of the series, the film finds a now grown-up Veronica Mars (played once again by Kristen Bell) in a relationship with Piz (Chris Lowell) and on the verge of being hired by a prestigious law firm. The small town of Neptune is behind her…or so she thinks until she sees a news report that her former boyfriend, Logan Echolls (Jason Dohring), is being investigated for the murder of his movie star girlfriend who also happened to have gone to high school with the gang.

Although she is attempting to distance herself from her hometown, Veronica is drawn into the murder investigation when Logan calls and asks for her help. Unable to say no, Veronica heads home where she surprises her dad, Keith (Enrico Colantoni), and meets up with her old high school friends. The murder just happened to take place around the same time as her high school reunion, which gives writer/director Rob Thomas a chance to really relive all the old Veronica Mars TV glory.

Fans of the series (aka Marshmellows) are going eat up all the Veronica Mars goodness while those who weren’t into the teen detective series in the first place will also still find much of the film enjoyable. I use the qualifier “much” because Veronica Mars does slow down a bit after the initial set-up and plays out more like a two hour made-for-TV movie than a theatrically released film. And if it weren’t for the passion of the Marshmellows who catapulted Veronica Mars‘ Kickstarter campaign into the record books, the film might have ultimately wound up as a made-for-TV release (if it was made at all). That said, overall Veronica Mars is a fun little crime drama/action comedy made watchable mostly because of Bell’s charming presence on screen.

Game Show with Kristen Bell and Chris Lowell – A short but fun video of Kristen and Chris asking each other questions. Among the questions asked are if Piz and Veronica will stay together and what is Chris’ work-out routine. And Chris wants to know why he was left out of the Kickstarter campaign when everyone else was included.

On Set With Max Greenfield – New Girl‘s Max Greenfield talks about the movie and how it’s still what fans talk about the most when they meet him.

Veronica Mars’ Backers – This one is only interesting to Kickstarter backers. The rest of the world can press skip.

It’s Not All About You, Monkey – Writer/director Rob Thomas and Ryan Hansen pull a prank involving a monkey suit.

Young Veronica – An up-close look at Nora Sakal who plays a younger version of Veronica.

Spike TV Greenlights a King Tut Event Series

King Tutankhamun’s life will be the focus of a new scripted event series on Spike TV. Tut has been greenlit for a six-hour scripted series that will begin filming later this year in Canada and Morocco. According to Spike, Tut marks the first scripted event series in eight years.

“We are thrilled to join forces with MUSE Entertainment and this incredible writing team to bring the amazing story of one of history’s legendary leaders to life,” said Sharon Levy, Executive Vice President, Original Series, Spike TV. “Tut is the perfect addition to our slate of distinctive originals that appeal to a broad audience.”

Tut will air in 2015.

Cooking Channel Teams Up with Rapper Rev Run for Sunday Suppers

Run-D.M.C.’s Rev Run is starring in a new cooking series on the Cooking Channel titled Rev Run’s Sunday Suppers. The new series, which will debut on June 8, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT, was announced by the network’s General Manager and Senior Vice President Michael Smith who said, “Rev Run is not only a legendary musician and pop-culture icon, but also a dynamic lifestyle figure with his love for home renovation and keen fashion sense.
