The Red Road with Jason Momoa Premiere Date
Jason Momoa stars in the Sundance Channel original series "The Red Road" (Photo Credit:James Minchin)

The Red Road starring Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones), Julianne Nicholson, Martin Henderson, and Tamara Tunie has been given a second season order by SundanceTV. The series from writer Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners) and producer Sarah Condon (Bored to Death) will be back in 2015 with six brand new episodes.

SundanceTV President Sarah Barnett made the renewal announcement stating, “The Red Road tells the tale of a shocking conflict which plays out in a very specific place – the land that the Native Americans live on literally oozes danger. It’s a show about what happens when you try to bury the truth and the devastating impact of that. We’re proud of this tremendously talented cast and can’t wait to see where creator Aaron Guzikowski takes this story in season two.”

Filming will take place later this year in Georgia.

The Plot:

The tense drama revolves around two clashing communities – a small town and the neighboring mountains, home to a Native American tribe – and two dynamic men on a collision course – played by Jason Momoa and Martin Henderson.

Craig Ferguson is Leaving ‘The Late Late Show’

Craig Ferguson Leaving The Late Late Show

Just when you thought the ‘late night host’ lineup had actually settled down into place comes news that Craig Ferguson will be saying goodbye to The Late Late Show in December 2014. Ferguson announced during the April 28, 2014 taping of his show he’ll be vacating the hosting job.

Stealing a line from Gwyneth Paltrow, Ferguson made the announcement, saying, “CBS and I are not getting divorced, we are ‘consciously uncoupling,’ but we will still spend holidays together and share custody of the fake horse and robot skeleton, both of whom we love very much.”

The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson has won a Peabody Award and earned Ferguson an Emmy nomination.

“During his 10 years as host, Craig has elevated CBS to new creative and competitive heights at 12:30,” said Nina Tassler, Chairman, CBS Entertainment. “He infused the broadcast with tremendous energy, unique comedy, insightful interviews and some of the most heartfelt monologues seen on television.”

Added Tassler, “Craig’s versatile talents as a writer, producer, actor and comedian speak to his great days ahead. While we’ll miss Craig and can’t thank him enough for his contributions to both the show and the Network, we respect his decision to move on, and we look forward to celebrating his final broadcasts during the next eight months.”

Ferguson will be keeping busy post-The Late Late Show with Celebrity Name Game and other TV projects.

Film Review: ‘Following the Ninth: In the Footsteps of Beethoven’s Final Symphony’

From the student protests in Tiananmen Square to the tearing down of the Berlin Wall, the documentary Following the Ninth shows how Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony has inspired people around the world. Chinese students played the composition over loudspeakers during the ill-fated Tiananmen Square protests. In Chile, women sang their version in the streets in defiance of the Pinochet dictatorship; those in prison could hear their voices. At a celebration of the fall of the Berlin Wall, Leonard Bernstein conducted the Ninth and changed “Ode to Joy” to “Ode to Freedom.” “Daiku” means “ninth” in Japan and all over the country, choral groups as well as amateurs sing Beethoven’s Ninth on New Year’s Eve. The film even features a 5,000 member chorale singing the work in Japan.

According to screenwriter and director Kerry Candaele, the film has been screened nationwide and has been featured on the BBC and NPR. Candaele said he worked for six years to bring together people and stories from around the world, and the documentary includes very effective use of archival footage intercut with individuals who were there at the events relating their experiences. One particularly moving interview was with a Chilean who was a political prisoner, heard the women singing, and recounted that the current President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet, was with him in prison.

While the Japanese choral groups were impressive, a more thorough explanation of the origins of the “Daiku” would have been helpful in connecting it to the other segments. The tone was uplifting but better quality photos in the closing montage would have made the impression even stronger. Overall, though, by showing how people’s lives all over the world were touched by a beautiful piece of music, the film achieved a sense of hopefulness.

Following the Ninth screened at the Newport Beach Film Festival, held April 24-May 1, 2014, as part of a multi-media exploration of Beethoven by the Orange County California Philharmonic Society that included exhibitions, lectures, films, and music.

Eric Bana Discusses ‘Deliver Us From Evil’ and Horror Films

Eric Bana Deliver Us From Evil Interview

Eric Bana (Lone Survivor, Hanna, Star Trek) tackles the lead role of a New York police officer who over the course of his investigations into a series of disturbing crimes begins to believe the cause could be of demonic origin in the upcoming Screen Gems supernatural thriller Deliver Us From Evil. The horror film’s based on the book Beware the Night by NYPD Sergeant Ralph Sarchie (the character Bana plays in the movie), and at the 2014 WonderCon in Anaheim, CA, Bana discussed what it is that makes Deliver Us From Evil different than other films of the genre.

Deliver Us From Evil opens in theaters on July 2, 2014.

Eric Bana Exclusive Interview

What sets Deliver Us From Evil apart from other horror movies and other films about demons and exorcism?

Eric Bana: “I think anytime we loosely base something on reality, it sort of – I don’t know about you but it immediately makes it slightly scarier. Ralph’s a real guy and we’re dealing with some story elements that are based on his life and his past. It just kind of feels spookier. Scott [Derrickson] is such an adept director at this genre, it’s really the reason I wanted to get involved. I love his previous work and he knows more about the subject matter and the genre than any of us ever will so I felt in really great hands. It was just an awesome character.”

How did Scott help you? He does know this genre so well.

Eric Bana: “Yeah, he’s literally a walking encyclopedia. He helped me as a director should with an actor and we became great friends. But beyond that, his level of intellect to do with religion and his history and all this sort of stuff is just never-ending. So we were able to have great, broad philosophical conversations that had nothing to do with the specifics of the film that just really helped. It makes things interesting on the set. It opens your mind to a lot of things. Working on a film like this exposes you to some things that otherwise wouldn’t have. That’s great. That’s the beauty of the job.”

Did you go in believing that this could actually be a true story?

Eric Bana: “I had to be careful. I had to approach this just as I would any other film and be completely open. I think whichever character you’re playing, whatever world you’re entering, you have to be open to everything because otherwise I don’t think you can do your job as well as an actor. This was another one where you go in…and I don’t want to go through pre-production again. I saw some stuff I’ve got no interest in revisiting, let me tell you. Absolutely.”

It stuck with you?

Eric Bana: “Oh, for sure. For sure. It definitely educated me on how much room there is within the subject. It’s not just black and white. It’s not just someone’s not possessed or they’re possessed. There’s a million shades in between that are intriguing and interesting and scary.”

It bears repeating: The Fault in Our Stars appears to be one of the most faithful book-to-screen adaptations in recent movie history. The latest trailer looks like it’s lifted straight from the page of John Green’s novel, and the film’s stars Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort seem to perfectly match Green’s description of Hazel and Gus. Plus, the tone, humor, and heartbreak in this new extended trailer are spot-on.

Coming to theaters on June 6, 2014, the cast also features Laura Dern, Sam Trammell, and Mike Birbiglia.

The Plot:

Hazel and Gus are two extraordinary teenagers who share an acerbic wit, a disdain for the conventional, and a love that sweeps them — and us – on an unforgettable journey.
