Comic book legend Stan Lee and Stuart Moore’s Zodiac, based on the Chinese zodiac, has been picked up by Disney Publishing Worldwide (DPW). The new book will feature illustrations by Andie Tang and will hit stores in hardcover on January 27, 2015.
“I’m thrilled to be working with Disney Publishing Worldwide with whom I always hoped to develop this project. Our partnership has been enormously fruitful, collaborative and great fun,” said Lee.
The Plot:
Zodiac is an action-packed illustrated novel that follows Steven Lee, a young Chinese-American teen who is drawn into a mysterious conspiracy surrounding twelve mystical pools of energy and a power-hungry secret organization. When he and other randomly chosen teens around the world are suddenly gifted with magical powers, they’ll have to find each other and learn how to handle fantastic abilities and responsibilities. Their greatest hopes and deepest fears will be brought to light by the powers of the zodiac!
Kristen Anderson-Lopez (Winnie the Pooh) and Robert Lopez (The Book of Mormon) contribute eight original songs to the soundtrack of Frozen, Walt Disney Animation Studios upcoming animated comedy featuring the voices of Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel. Christophe Beck contributes the score to the animated film set in a winter wonderland and based on Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen while Demi Lovato’s “Let It Go” will be heard over the end credits of the film.
The Frozen soundtrack will arrive in stores on November 25, 2013, two days before the film directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee arrives in theaters.
“Jennifer, Chris and the team have created a film with an engaging setting full of compelling characters,” said producer Peter Del Vecho. “The music elevates and propels this storytelling. The songwriters Kristen and Bobby participated in the creation of the story. We met with them for two hours each day via video conference while we were building our plot—not necessarily about the songs, but about the characters: who they are, how they think, what they want. Each song enhances and expands the story in a way that fully engages the audience in this world.”

Discovery Channel is set to introduce a new four-part series titled Kodiak next year, focusing on three families who live and work on the remote Kodiak Island. “Alaska has always been surrounded by a veil of mystique, and several of our highest rated shows take place there. We introduced our viewers to the gold miners of Porcupine Creek in Gold Rush…the tight-knit community of Tanana in Yukon Men…the Kilcher family of Homer in Alaska: The Last Frontier…the bush pilots of Unalakleet in Flying Wild Alaska…and now we are excited to introduce our viewers to the legendary forests and waters of Kodiak Island, one of the most dangerous and isolated places on Earth,” said Denise Contis, Executive Vice President of Production and Development for Discovery Channel.

Even for the most experienced outdoorsmen, survival on Kodiak Island is a daily struggle. The island, referred to by the locals as ‘The Rock’, is populated by as many as 3,500 Kodiak bears – one for every square mile of land – each weighing in at over 1,500 pounds. Too many bears ultimately means starvation for the species, so carefully regulated hunting is the only solution. And there is also fierce weather to contend with. Kodiak Island averages 70 inches of rain and 70 inches of snow per year – and fog is common. The winters are long and cold, and it can be a struggle to find both food and heat. Those who reside here truly live on the edge. For the bush pilots, master guides, expert hunters, survival experts and adrenaline junkies who call Kodiak Island home, each and every day brings new challenges.
Kodiak is an authentic story of survival on one of American’s last true frontiers. And when the stakes are high, so can be the rewards. In order to defy the odds and reap the riches of the harshest wilderness in North America, those who inhabit Kodiak must stick together.
