Christina Hendricks on ‘The Pirate Fairy’ and Voicing Serena

Christina Hendricks says that providing the voice of the fairy ‘Serena’ in DisneyToon Studio’s The Pirate Fairy is a dream job. The Mad Men actress makes her animated theatrical feature film debut with the family-friendly fairy story which is coming to theaters next spring.

Directed by Peggy Holmes, The Pirate Fairy is an all-new fairy adventure that also features the voice of Tom Hiddleston (Thor, The Avengers) as Captain Hook. And in this video courtesy of Walt Disney Studios, Hendricks discusses being a part of the Disney family, what The Pirate Fairy is about, and her character.

The Plot: When a misunderstood dust-keeper fairy named Zarina (Hendricks) steals Pixie Hollow’s all-important Blue Pixie Dust and flies away to join forces with the pirates of Skull Rock, Tinker Bell, and her fairy friends must embark on the adventure of a lifetime to return it to its rightful place.

However, in the midst of their pursuit of Zarina, Tink’s world is turned upside down. She and her friends find that their respective talents have been switched and they have to race against time to retrieve the Blue Pixie Dust and return home to save Pixie Hollow.

‘You’re Next’ New Film Clip – “Axe”

The clip’s title says it all. This latest clip from the Lionsgate horror film You’re Next is all about a masked person going after someone (we can only assume it’s an innocent victim) with an axe. You’re Next starring Sharni Vinson, Nicholas Tucci, Wendy Glenn, AJ Bowen, Joe Swanberg, Amy Seimetz, and Ti West opens in theaters on August 23, 2013.

The Plot:

One of the smartest and most terrifying films in years, You’re Next reinvents the genre by putting a fresh twist on home-invasion horror. When a gang of masked, ax-wielding murderers descend upon the Davison family reunion, the hapless victims seem trapped…until an unlikely guest of the family proves to be the most talented killer of all.

‘Almost Human’ – Cast, Plot Details, and Trailer

Almost Human TV Series
Michael Irby, Mackenzie Crook, Lili Taylor, Karl Urban, Michael Ealy, and Minka Kelly star in ‘Almost Human’ (Photo © 2013 Fox Broadcasting Co.)

Karl Urban and Michael Ealy lead the cast of Fox’s one-hour drama Almost Human. The series comes from executive producers J.J. Abrams and J.H. Wyman and is set to premiere on November 17, 2013.

Karl Urban stars as Detective John Kennex, Michael Ealy plays Dorian, and Minka Kelly is Detective Valerie Stahl. Mackenzie Crook is Rudy Lom, Michael Irby is Detective Richard Paul, and Lili Taylor plays Captain Sandra Maldonado.

The Synopsis: In this action-packed cop show set in 2048, a worse-for-wear cop teams up with a second-hand synthetic android to fight a strain of urban crime that’s evolved in ever more frightening ways. Detective John Kennex survived a catastrophic attack on the city’s police department that cost him his friends, one of his limbs, and his reputation. Returning over a year later to the force led by Capt. Maldonado, he finds the transition difficult.

Not only does one of the surviving detectives, Richard Paul, blame him for the lethal ambush, but department policy now requires that every cop be paired with a highly-evolved human-like android partner. Rejecting the hyper-efficient battle-ready MX-43 robots, Kennex works with lab technician Rudy Lom to reinstate an outdated Dorian android — whose somewhat dysfunctional platform is based on a “Synthetic Soul” program, allowing it to have emotional responses. It’s this flawed humanity, however, that connects Dorian and John. And together, they set out to keep the city safe, uncover the criminal conspiracy that threatens to destroy their world … and find their common humanity.

Grant Bowler Talks Defiance and Season 2

What can we expect of Grant Bowler’s Defiance character over the course of season two? While at The Walking Dead party at the 2013 San Diego Comic Con, Bowler told me he’ll be cross-dressing and turning into a world-class cyclist. And I’m going to say with all certainty that neither of those things will actually be happening in season two of Syfy’s hit series.

On a slightly more serious note, Bowler promised ‘Joshua Nolan’ will be off the leash this coming season now that he’s no longer the chief lawkeeper. Check out what else he had to say in this video from the zombie-filled red carpet:

Check Out Five Minutes of ‘Low Winter Sun’

For those looking for some lighthearted entertainment after Breaking Bad, I’m afraid you’re out of luck. Low Winter Sun debuts in the coveted post-Breaking Bad time slot and it’s definitely not a comedy. AMC’s new series premieres at 10pm on August 11, 2013 and stars Mark Strong, Lennie James, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Athena Karkanis, James Ransone, Sprague Greydon, Billy Lush, and David Costabile.

The Official Plot: Based on the 2006 award-winning British two-part miniseries of the same name written by Simon Donald and produced by Tiger Aspect Productions, Low Winter Sun is a contemporary story of murder, deception, revenge and corruption in a world where the line between cops and criminals is blurred.

This gritty, edgy, and provocative crime drama begins with an act of retribution — the murder of a dirty cop by a fellow Detroit detective, Frank Agnew (Strong). Seemingly the perfect crime, in reality the murder sets in motion forces that will forever alter the detective’s life and pull him into the heart of the Detroit underworld.
