Bill Hader Discusses ‘The Good Dinosaur’ and ‘Inside Out’

SNL‘s Bill Hader is such a big fan of Pixar that even before he was hired to voice characters in their animated films, he showed up for a tour of the studio. Maybe without taking the tour the filmmakers at Pixar would have tapped him to handle voice roles anyway, but his obvious love of their work more than likely moved him up on the list of actors ready to handle Pixar’s animated characters.

After voicing a referee and slug in Monsters University for Pixar, Hader will next be heard in the studio’s releases The Good Dinosaur and Inside Out. And at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, Hader talked about being a Pixar nerd, what The Good Dinosaur story is all about, and who he plays. He also discussed voicing ‘Fear’ in Pixar’s Inside Out which will hit theaters in 2015.

The Good Dinosaur Plot:

The Good Dinosaur asks the generations-old question: What if the cataclysmic asteroid that forever changed life on Earth actually missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? In theaters May 30, 2014, the film is a humorous and exciting original story about Arlo, a lively 70-foot-tall teenage Apatosaurus with a big heart. After a traumatic event rattles Arlo’s tranquil community, he sets out on a quest to restore peace, gaining an unlikely companion along the way–a young human boy named Spot.

Inside Out Plot:

From director Pete Docter (Up) and producer Jonas Rivera, Disney•Pixar’s Inside Out takes you to a place that everyone knows, but no one has ever seen: the world inside the human mind. Riley, an 11-year-old girl who recently moved with her family to San Francisco, is not the main character but the setting for the film. Moviegoers will go inside her mind to explore how memories are formed and how a mixture of five emotions–Joy, Disgust, Anger, Fear and Sadness–defines life experiences. In theaters June 19, 2015.

Tom Hiddleston Talks ‘The Pirate Fairy’ and Playing Captain Hook

Tom Hiddleston lends his voice to the Disneytoon Studios animated movie The Pirate Fairy coming to theaters next year. Hiddleston could pretty much read a phone book and I’d listen to him, but with The Pirate Fairy he gets to voice a character much more interesting than a list of names and numbers: Hiddleston is voicing a young Captain Hook.

In this video courtesy of Disney, Hiddleston talks about the Pirate Fairy story, his childhood memories of writing plays and ending up the bad guy and being part of the long line of actors who’ve taken on the role of Hook.

The Plot: When a misunderstood dust-keeper fairy named Zarina (Christina Hendricks) steals Pixie Hollow’s all-important Blue Pixie Dust, and flies away to join forces with the pirates of Skull Rock, Tinker Bell, and her fairy friends must embark on the adventure of a lifetime to return it to its rightful place. However, in the midst of their pursuit of Zarina, Tink’s world is turned upside down. She and her friends find that their respective talents have been switched and they have to race against time to retrieve the Blue Pixie Dust and return home to save Pixie Hollow.

With comedy, heart, and epic thrills for the whole family, The Pirate Fairy sets sail Spring 2014. (Directed by Peggy Holmes)

Getaway “Metal and Asphalt” Featurette

There isn’t any CG in the car stunts and Ethan Hawke says this is the best stunt team he’s ever worked with in this behind the scenes video from Getaway. Coming to theaters on August 30, 2013, Getaway‘s an action thriller starring Hawke, Selena Gomez, Jon Voight, Rebecca Budig, and Bruce Payne.

The Plot:

Former race car driver Brent Magna (Hawke) is pitted against the clock. Desperately trying to save the life of his kidnapped wife, Brent commandeers a custom Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake, taking it and its unwitting owner (Gomez) on a high-speed race against time, at the command of the mysterious villain holding his wife hostage.

‘Elysium’ Movie Review

Elysium Movie Review Starring Sharlto Copley

“I need to get to Elysium,” says Max (Matt Damon), a man who’s desperate to save himself and might be the key to saving all of mankind in the science fiction thriller Elysium.

The year is 2154 and the Earth is an overpopulated wasteland with people living and working practically on top of each other, struggling to stay alive and being policed by patrol droids. The rich and powerful live out in space on a pristine space station called Elysium, a beautiful Garden of Eden where any sickness – including cancer – can be quickly cured.

On Elysium, Delacourt (Jodie Foster) is in charge of security and enforcing the anti-immigration laws to prevent any people from Earth from reaching paradise on the space station. That doesn’t stop some from Earth from trying to escape the poverty and crime running rampant and for those who are critically ill from trying to get to Elysium to use state-of-art medicine.

When Max, a down-on-his-luck blue-collar worker, has an accident at work, which leaves him facing his own mortality, he quickly decides to join with a small group of revolutionists to find a way to get to Elysium. The leader of the rebels believes that Max might just be able to not only save himself but free everyone on Earth from the control and tyranny of those in charge on Elysium.

Written and directed by Neill Blomkamp (District 9), Elysium is a creative science fiction thriller that has a strong cast but drags between its hectic action scenes. Matt Damon, who obviously worked out and buffed up to portray Max, is a one-note hero who is only interested in saving himself until near the end of the film, which makes him a fairly unsympathetic character throughout much of the movie. Jodie Foster delivers a stilted and wooden performance as Delacourt, a military commander who believes in keeping all residents of Earth out of Elysium no matter what it takes. It’s the worst performance in the film.

The best thing about Elysium is Sharlto Copley’s over-the-top performance as Kruger, a mercenary who carries out Delacourt’s horrific orders against the citizens of Earth and eventually hunts Max to stop him from his mission. He’s a villain who, unfortunately, deserves a stronger and more interesting hero to fight against.

The look and design of the film are extremely similar to the original production design in Blomkamp’s first film District 9, which makes it repetitive and not all that interesting. The action scenes are extremely chaotic with hand-held cameras and jerky cuts, resulting in movement that becomes increasingly difficult for the audience to follow. The pacing of the film is also incredibly slow between the action scenes, which makes Elysium feel much longer than an hour and 50 minutes.

With its over-obvious message about class distinction and immigration and its unimpressive action scenes, Elysium ends up being nothing more than a second-rate science fiction tale that is sure to have the movie-going audience wishing they were watching District 9 again instead.

GRADE: C-

Elysium is rated R for strong bloody violence and language throughout.

‘Masters of Sex’ Official Trailer with Michael Sheen

“Long before anyone else, a curious man and an unconventional woman were mastering the art of impolite science.”

The new trailer for Showtime’s upcoming dramedy Masters of Sex provides a little background into what the show’s about (as if the title doesn’t pretty much spell that out). Starring Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan, Masters of Sex will debut on September 29, 2013 at 10pm.

The Plot: Sheen and Caplan portray the real-life pioneers of the science of human sexuality, William Masters and Virginia Johnson. The series chronicles the unusual lives, romance and pop culture trajectory of Masters and Johnson. Their research touched off the sexual revolution and took them from a mid-western teaching hospital in St. Louis to the cover of Time magazine.

‘Sons of Anarchy’ Season 6 New Trailer

Tara’s in jail, Clay may rat out the club, Jax is out for revenge, and the club’s numbers are dangerously low in the new trailer for FX’s Sons of Anarchy‘s season six.

Premiering on September 10, 2013, SoA‘s next-to-last season promises to be just as riveting as the previous five – and you can bet not every character will survive the season.
