BBC America is ready to get wild once again with the renewal of Wild Things with Dominic Monaghan. Monaghan, best known for playing a hobbit in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, stars in the adventure series, playing host as he “takes viewers on a heart-pumping adventure to the most remote corners of the globe in search of the biggest, scariest and most exotic animals on the planet.” Season two will air in 2014.
The series was recently nominated for a Critics’ Choice award in the Best Reality Series category.
“I’m excited to travel the world and continue to tell stories about the rare and beautiful animals we share this planet with on season two of Wild Things,” said Dominic Monaghan. “Thanks to all the fans and to BBC AMERICA for all their support on a project that means so much to me.”
Perry Simon, General Manager, BBC AMERICA added: “The first season of Wild Things with Dominic Monaghan was an amazing thrill ride that introduced viewers to fascinating rare creatures and exotic locales, and we can’t wait to set off on new journeys with Dominic. His vast knowledge of these animals and infectious enthusiasm make him the perfect host for this signature BBC AMERICA adventure series.”
The Plot:
In each episode, Monaghan takes viewers along on an intimate, action-packed quest as he ventures to track down and get up close and personal with some of the planet’s most rare and life-threatening animals. Season one saw him on the hunt for millions of flesh-slicing army ants in the steamy rainforests of Ecuador, searching for a giant venomous centipede in the caves of Venezuela, and facing off with a deadly scorpion in the arid deserts of Namibia.

Neil Patrick Harris kicked off the 2013 Tony Awards show with a musical number that even included a bit of dancing by Mike Tyson. And while the number was a great way to launch the June 9, 2013 broadcast, the evening was actually all about the battle between Kinky Boots and Matilda.
Kinky Boots came into the awards show with 13, with Matilda The Musical hot on its heels with 12, and when the awards were handed out Kinky Boots did in fact continue to lead the pack with the most wins. Kinky Boots collected six Tonys, including Best Musical, as well as a historic win for Cyndi Lauper’s music and lyrics. Lauper became the first woman ever to win a Tony for music and lyrics solo (other women have won as part of a collaborative effort).

The Office co-creator Stephen Merchant teams up with The Office writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky to write and executive produce the new HBO series Hello Ladies. Debuting on September 29, 2013 at 10:30pm following the premiere of the last season of Eastbound & Down, Hello Ladies finds Merchant playing “a gawky, 6’ 7” Englishman searching for the woman of his dreams in Los Angeles. Half as charming – and twice as desperate – as he thinks he is, he’s obsessed with infiltrating the glamorous world of beautiful people who won’t let him in.”
Season one consists of eight episodes and HBO’s just released this teaser trailer to give potential viewers a sneak peek at what’s in store.
Tickets go on sale on June 14, 2013 for Russell Brand’s upcoming world stand-up tour which kicks off in San Francisco on August 29th. The Messiah Complex tour will be, according to Live Nation, a “dissection of various social and religious figures and the reality of their lives through comparisons of each other.”
“I am going to tour The World (our one, Earth) with Messiah Complex, causing bother and excitement and offering opinions that have not been either solicited or thought through,” said Brand.
A Description of Russell Brand’s Messiah Complex Tour:
“Messiah Complex is a mental disorder where you think you might be the messiah. Did Jesus have it? What about Che Guevara, Gandhi, Malcolm X and Hitler? All these men have shaped our lives and influenced the way we think. Their images are used to represent ideas that often do not relate to them at all. Would Gandhi be into Apple? Would Che Guevara endorse Madonna? Would Jesus be into Christianity? All great people are flawed, all of us flawed people are capable of greatness and for every identifiable icon there is an anonymous mob of unrecognized bods doing all the admin and heavy lifting. This show looks at the importance of heroes in this age of atheistic disposability. Plus there’s sex. Obviously.”

‘The Voice’ judge Usher (Photo by Trae Patton/NBC)
The Voice coach Usher will be taking to the stage on the June 10, 2013 episode of the singing competition, performing his latest single “Twisted” from his seventh album Looking 4 Myself. Also showing up to entertain The Voice audience this week will be Fall Out Boy as well as The Voice alumni Tony Lucca, Nicholas David, and Terry McDermott, who’ll all be performing on the June 11th episode.
Usher’s Looking 4 Myself is his fourth consecutive #1 studio album. He’s currently at work on album #8 and is also getting ready to start work on the Robert Duran biopic Hands of Stone in which he’ll play boxer Sugar Ray Leonard. The cast includes Robert De Niro and Edgar Ramirez, and is set to shoot in Panama.
Meanwhile, Fall Out Boy will be singing the single “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark” from their album Save Rock and Roll, which debuted at #1 when it was released in April. Tony Lucca’s scheduled to perform “Never Going to Let You Go” while Nicholas David and Terry McDermott from The Voice season three will sing “Say Goodbye” and “Pictures,” respectively.
Lucca will soon be touring with Voice coach Adam Levine and Maroon 5 and is signed to Levine’s 222 Records.
Lena Headey, best known to legions of Game of Thrones fans as Cersei Lannister, stars as a wife and mother who’s forced into defending her home against psycho killers in The Purge. And in this interview courtesy of Universal Pictures, Headey discusses the appeal of The Purge, her reaction to the script, and her character’s arc.
The Plot:
If, on one night every year, you could commit any crime without facing consequences, what would you do?
In an America wracked with crime and overcrowded prisons, the government has sanctioned an annual 12-hour period in which any and all criminal activity – including murder – becomes legal. The police can’t be called. Hospitals suspend help. It’s twelve hours when the citizenry regulates itself without thought of punishment. On this particular night in 2022, plagued by violence and an epidemic of crime, one family wrestles with the decision of who they will become when a stranger comes knocking.
When an intruder breaks into James Sandin’s (Ethan Hawke) gated community during the yearly lockdown, he begins a sequence of events that threatens to tear his family apart. Now, it is up to James, his wife, Mary (Lena Headey), and their kids to make it through the night without turning into the monsters from whom they hide.
GAME OF THRONES episode 30/season finale (season 3, episode 10): Iain Glen, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Emilia Clarke - Photo: Keith Bernstein/HBO
Even after the heartbreaking Red Wedding, I’m not ready for Game of Thrones season three to come to an end. But, unfortunately, HBO is only offering 10 season three episodes for the critically series, so despite the fact GoT fans want more, we’re going to have to adjust to the fact that after “Mhysa” airs it’ll be over until 2014.
The Plot:
Debut: SUNDAY, JUNE 9 (9:00-10:10 p.m.)
Other HBO playdates: June 9 (11:10 p.m.), 10 (10:30 p.m.), 11 (11:00 p.m.), 12 (10:00 p.m.), 13 (9:30 p.m.) and 15 (1:00 a.m.)
HBO2 playdate: June 13 (11:00 p.m.)
Joffrey (Jack Gleeson) challenges Tywin (Charles Dance). Bran tells a ghost story. In Dragonstone, mercy comes from strange quarters. Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) waits to see if she is a conqueror or a liberator.
