The Family is the story of the Manzonis, a notorious mafia family who gets relocated to Normandy, France under the witness protection program. While they do their best to fit in, old habits die hard and they soon find themselves handling things the “family” way.
Animal-lover Tom Hardy is hoping to help stop poaching in South Africa, Botswana, and Tanzania – or at least raise awareness of the horrific poaching taking place – via Poaching Wars with Tom Hardy. Executive produced and hosted by Hardy, Poaching Wars with Tom Hardy is a new ITV documentary series directed by Ewen Thompson.
“The story of the impact of wildlife poaching in Africa is one that is important to tell now more than ever. Tom Hardy’s palpable concern and commitment to shedding light on what is happening and what the answers might be allow him to bring this reality home in a way that we believe will resonate powerfully with our audience,” stated Jo Clinton-Davis, ITV Controller of Factual.
Dean Baker, Executive Producer of the film for Hardy, Son and Baker, added, “Hardy, Son and Baker are delighted to be working with ITV on this project. Tom’s goal is to bring the senseless slaughter of endangered wildlife in Africa to the attention of the masses. This documentary is the first step of that process. We both hope it finds an engaged, empathetic audience who can be motivated to action.”
The Details [Courtesy of ITV]:
Tom has always loved animals. When he became aware of the truly cataclysmic damage being inflicted on Africa by a ruthless and voracious poaching industry, the BAFTA award-winning actor (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) made it a personal commitment to travel to South Africa, Botswana, and Tanzania and uncover the hard truths about why poaching has reached these crisis levels. And see for himself what can be done to stop the killing.
All over Sub-Saharan Africa, the poaching crisis is spreading like a plague. Cameroon, Chad, Mozambique, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo have all seen large-scale elephant slaughter and throughout the rest of Africa, both rhino and elephant are being killed in alarming numbers, bringing both species to the brink of extinction.
On his trek across the continent, Tom meets those affected and involved on all sides of the industry, including the farmers who have lost livestock to poachers, plus key figures from organizations fighting back against poaching on the ground and in government.
The huge amounts of money involved means the cost is counted in both human and animal lives. And Tom learns at close range about the dangerous people involved in poaching and why they are prepared to kill and die for the wealth there, unprotected, for the taking.
It’s a good thing The Lone Ranger‘s Armie Hammer isn’t scared of heights. Hammer’s tall to begin with but in one of the most horrifying situations possible for an acrophobic, he had to stand on top of a platform 2,000 feet above the Utah desert to shoot a scene. Then while all harnessed in, he has to act like he’s losing his balance while a helicopter circles kicking up dust and wind. Isn’t that what stuntmen are paid to do?
Directed by Gore Verbinski, The Lone Ranger also stars Johnny Depp, Ruth Wilson, Tom Wilkinson, Barry Pepper, and James Badge Dale. Disney’s releasing the action film in theaters on July 3, 2013.
The Plot:
From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the filmmaking team behind the blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, comes Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ The Lone Ranger, a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. Native American warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice—taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.
Although the announcement of the start of production on Syfy’s Lost Girl is enough to make fans of the series happy, what makes the news even better is knowing that George Takei (Star Trek) will be a guest star on the upcoming fourth season. Filming is currently taking place in Toronto on 13 brand new episodes set to air next year.
The cast includes Anna Silk as Succubus heroine Bo; Ksenia Solo as Kenzi, Bo’s human sidekick and street-smart confidante; Kris Holden-Ried as Dyson, the shape shifting homicide detective and noble warrior of the Light Fae; Zoie Palmer as Lauren, the brilliant human doctor who competes with Dyson for Bo’s affection; Rick Howland as Trick, Bo’s grandfather and the ancient and mysterious Blood King, and K.C. Collins as Hale, Dyson’s partner and a Light Fae siren born of noble blood; Paul Amos as the ever devious Dark Fae Mesmer, Vex; and Emmanuelle Vaugier as the evil Dark Fae leader, The Morrigan.
The Plot:
In the upcoming season, fate casts a wide shadow over the Fae world. With Bo’s (Anna Silk) return, the lines between Dark and Light Fae are blurred, causing Bo to venture into a journey of discovery. Bo and company will ultimately realize that regardless of the challenges and enemies they face, they’re stronger when they face them together.
Producers Brannon Braga and Adam Simon are working with WGN America on the new dramatic series Salem – the first original scripted series for WGN America – with an eye on a 2014 premiere. The network’s ordered 13 episodes of the series from Fox 21, with Braga and Simon on board as writers/creators as well as producers. Filming’s expected to begin later this year.
“Brannon and Adam have an amazing vision for the world and characters that comprise Salem, Massachusetts during the witch trials and we believe that a great adventure full of supernatural, romance, and action awaits the viewer,” stated Matt Cherniss, President/GM, WGN America. “In addition, everyone here at WGN America feels fortunate to have the support of Fox 21 and 20th Television as we embark on our first foray in original scripted programming.”
“Our studio has had a long and successful relationship with Peter and Matt, so we are thrilled to be back in business with them on this fantastic new project,” remarked Twentieth Century Fox Television Chairmen Dana Walden and Gary Newman. “And we’re excited to be working again with co-creator Brannon Braga, whose history with this company dates all the way back to 24. As we expand our cable television business through Fox 21, we are always on the lookout for new opportunities, and we couldn’t be prouder to be the first studio to produce an original scripted series for WGN America.”
The Plot:
Set in the volatile world of 17th century Massachusetts, Salem explores what really fueled the town’s infamous witch trials and dares to uncover the dark, supernatural truth hiding behind the veil of this infamous period in American history. In Salem, witches are real, but they are not who or what they seem. The show, which centers on an epic romance wrapped around this explosive revelation, delivers a bold new vision of Salem – and an even bolder new vision of witches.
Look no further than episode nine of HBO’s Game of Thrones season three for the best dramatic episode of 2013. And if you’re not seriously considering Michelle Fairley for an Actress in a Supporting Role Emmy nomination, then the whole process is warped and needs a reboot.
Sincerely,
-A Diehard Game of Thrones fan
For those who’ve watched the episode, definitely check out this nine-minute behind-the-scenes video that delves into the making of the Red Wedding. As someone who’s read the George R.R. Martin books, I believe the entire creative team could not possibly have done a better job with this pivotal episode.

The CW has released details on five of its upcoming new series – The Originals (The Vampire Diaries spin-off), The Tomorrow People, Star-Crossed, The 100, and the show I’m most looking forward to on CW’s roster: Reign.
The Tomorrow People Plot:
They are the next evolutionary leap of mankind, a generation of humans born with paranormal abilities — the Tomorrow People. Stephen Jameson stands at the crossroads between the world we know and the shifting world of the future. Up until a year ago, Stephen was a “normal” teenager — until he began hearing voices and teleporting in his sleep, never knowing where he might wake up. Now, Stephen’s issues have gone far beyond the usual teenage angst, and he is beginning to question his sanity.
In desperation, Stephen decides to listen to one of the voices in his head, and it leads him to his first encounter with the Tomorrow People — John, Cara and Russell — a genetically advanced race with the abilities of telekinesis, teleportation and telepathic communication. The Tomorrow People are being hunted down by a paramilitary group of scientists known as Ultra. Led by Dr. Jedikiah Price, Ultra sees the Tomorrow People as a very real existential threat from a rival species, and the outcast group has been forced to hide out in an abandoned subway station just beneath the surface of the human world.
Trading in secrets, Jedikiah offers Stephen the chance for a normal life with his family and best friend, Astrid, if he will help in the struggle to isolate and eradicate the Tomorrow People. On the other hand, Cara, John and Russell offer Stephen a different type of family and a home where he truly belongs. Unwilling to turn his back on humanity or the world of the Tomorrow People, Stephen sets out on his own path — a journey that could take him into the shadowy past to uncover the truth about his father’s mysterious disappearance, or into an unknown future with THE TOMORROW PEOPLE.
Hidden between the lines of the history books is the story of Mary Stuart, the young woman the world would come to know as Mary, Queen of Scots. Queen of Scotland since she was six days old, the teenage Mary is already a headstrong monarch – beautiful, passionate, and poised at the very beginning of her tumultuous rise to power. Arriving in France with four close friends as her ladies-in-waiting, Mary has been sent to secure Scotland’s strategic alliance by formalizing her arranged engagement to the French king’s dashing son, Prince Francis. But the match isn’t signed and sealed: it depends more on politics, religion and secret agendas than affairs of the heart.
Prince Francis is intrigued by the fiery Scot, but like most young men, he resists the idea of settling down into marriage, especially when he has a history with a lady of the court and his own point of view on the wisdom of an alliance with Scotland. Still, an attraction between Mary and Francis is ignited. Further complicating things is Bash, Francis’ roguish half-brother, who has a history of his own – despite his illegitimate birth, Bash is his father’s favorite. And now that Bash has caught Mary’s eye, a royal triangle may be forming.
While at French Court, fierce foes and dark forces conspire to sabotage Mary’s marriage to Francis and even threaten her life, until a mysterious shrouded guide becomes her ally. With danger and sexual intrigue around every dark castle corner, Mary rallies her ladies-in-waiting and steels herself, ready to rule the new land and balance the demands of her country and her heart.
When Emery was 6 years old, an alien spacecraft crash-landed in her small town. Whether they came in peace or with more sinister intentions didn’t matter: a fierce battle erupted as humans fought for control over their new rivals, an alien species called the Atrians. In the midst of the conflict, Roman, a 6-year-old Atrian boy, found his way to a shed behind Emery’s house, where she protected him from harm, bringing him food, comfort – and friendship. In their brief time together, Emery and Roman forged a deep bond, but the authorities wasted no time tracking Roman down and capturing him in a violent confrontation.
Emery has grown up believing that Roman was killed that day. Ten years later, the Atrians have been acclimated to life on Earth, but they are interned in a heavily-guarded camp known as the Sector to keep them separate from humans. Now, for the first time, a group of Atrian teens will enroll in a suburban human high school, with the goal of testing the feasibility of human/alien integration. The eyes of the nation and the whole world are fixed on this historical social experiment, an endeavor fraught with suspicion and fear.
In the mayhem of the first day, Emery is amazed to learn that Roman was not killed by the authorities and is, in fact, one of the Atrian students. Their childhood bond is quickly rekindled – in a school and a society that distrusts everything about the Atrians, Emery and Roman have found each other again. However, their relationship is threatened by the small-mindedness of their respective communities and the political agendas of people in power.
While the world around them rages with anger and prejudice, their bond becomes increasingly strong and increasingly dangerous. As an epic Romeo and Juliet romance unfolds, a violent encounter between Roman’s father and Emery’s father occurs in the Sector. Can Roman and Emery’s love – and peace between the species – survive?
Ninety-seven years ago, nuclear Armageddon decimated planet Earth, destroying civilization. The only survivors were the 400 inhabitants of 12 international space stations that were in orbit at the time. Three generations have been born in space, the survivors now number 4,000, and resources are running out on their dying “Ark” – the 12 stations now linked together and repurposed to keep the survivors alive.
Draconian measures including capital punishment and population control are the order of the day, as the leaders of the Ark take ruthless steps to ensure their future, including secretly exiling a group of 100 juvenile prisoners to the Earth’s surface to test whether it’s habitable.
For the first time in nearly a century, humans have returned to planet Earth. Among the 100 exiles are Clarke, the bright teenage daughter of the Ark’s chief medical officer; Wells, son of the Ark’s Chancellor; the daredevil Finn; and the brother/sister duo Bellamy and Octavia, whose illegal sibling status has always led them to flaunt the rules.
Technologically blind to what’s happening on the planet below them, the Ark’s leaders – Clarke’s widowed mother, Abby; the Chancellor, Jaha; and his shadowy second in command, Kane – are faced with difficult decisions about life, death and the continued existence of the human race. For the 100 young people on Earth, however, the alien planet they’ve never known is a mysterious realm that can be magical one moment and lethal the next.
With the survival of the human race entirely in their hands, THE 100 must find a way to transcend their differences, unite and forge a new path on a wildly changed Earth that’s primitive, intense and teeming with the unknown.
Family is power. The Original Vampire family swore it to each other a thousand years ago. They pledged to remain together, always and forever. Now, centuries have passed and the bonds of family are broken. Time, tragedy and hunger for power have torn the Original Family apart. When Klaus Mikaelson, the original vampire-werewolf hybrid, receives a mysterious tip that a plot is brewing against him in the supernatural melting pot that is the French Quarter of New Orleans, he returns to the city his family helped build. Klaus’ questions lead him to a reunion with his diabolical former protégé, Marcel, a charismatic vampire who has total control over the human and supernatural inhabitants of New Orleans.
Determined to help his brother find redemption, Elijah follows Klaus and soon learns that the werewolf Hayley has also come to the French Quarter searching for clues to her family history, and has fallen into the hands of a powerful witch named Sophie.
Tensions between the town’s supernatural factions are nearing a breaking point as Marcel commands his devoted followers and rules with absolute power. For Klaus, the thought of answering to his powerful protégé is unthinkable, and he vows to reclaim what was once his – the power, the city and his family. While they wait to see if their sister Rebekah will leave Mystic Falls and join them, Klaus and Elijah form an uneasy alliance with the witches to ensure that New Orleans will be ruled by THE ORIGINALS once again.
Shazam, the app that helps you find out what that song is that’s playing and driving you crazy because you can’t figure out the band, has predicted which tunes we’ll be listening to this summer. According to the company, the top 10 list of this summer’s potential hits was compiled based on songs that are currently being tagged as well as new singles that the Shazam tag chart indicates will be big hits.
“Everyone has a particular song that reminds them of their favorite vacations or when they were out with their friends. These are the songs that we think will make Summer 2013 memorable,” stated Shazam VP of Music and Content, Will Mills. “Shazam’s Tag Charts are recognized as one of the most accurate predictive measures for the industry to see which songs and artists resonate with people, driving airplay and sales.”
The 2013 Summer Hits Charts:
1. Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” is probably the most hyped track this season. The fact that it has received four million tags and has been No. 1 on the Shazam Charts in 91 countries shows that it’s living up to expectations.
2. Like Gotye last year, Passenger’s “Let Her Go” picked up traction in Australia at the start of the year before hitting No. 1 in 13 international Shazam charts. With 3.8 million tags already, expect it to go stratospheric when it breaks in America.
3. Since being used in the TV show, Girls, Icona Pop’s “I Love It” has been a permanent fixture in the Shazam charts. Its daily interactions are still building, so don’t expect this track to disappear anytime soon!
4. Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” seems to be on a steep upward trajectory. It has already garnered 4.2 million tags but hasn’t yet reached its peak.
5. will.i.am’s previous singles “Scream and Shout” and “#thatPower” were huge with Shazam. His new track “Fall Down” with Miley Cyrus already seems to be going down well with Shazamers.
6. Krewella’s euphoric single “Alive” has been a mainstay of the dance-focused Shazam Beatport chart. With tags climbing worldwide, this looks like it could be a contender for the summer club anthem.
7. From the soundtrack to The Great Gatsby, Lana Del Rey’s “Young and Beautiful” is already showing traction on the Shazam charts.
8. Janelle Monae’s new album should be one of the summer’s most popular. The first single with Erykah Badu, “Q.U.E.E.N” is already receiving a lot of tags.
9. Shazam regional tags show that Rich Gang’s “Tapout” has been trending well in the Southern U.S.
10. Chance the Rapper’s “Interlude” is the most Shazam’d song from one of the most critically acclaimed mixtapes of the summer.
