A scene from 'Toy's House' - Photo Credit: Toy's House ProductionsAfter premiering to positive reviews at the Sundance Film Festival, CBS Films snatched up Toy’s House directed by first-time feature film helmer Jordan Vogt-Roberts. The coming-of-age teen comedy was written by Chris Galletta and stars Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso, and Moises Arias.
The cast also includes Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, Alison Brie, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Erin Moriarty, Marc Evan Jackson, Thomas Middleditch and Tony Hale.
Announcing the pick-up, Scott Shooman of CBS Films stated: “While comparisons to movies like Stand By Me and The Goonies are inevitable, we found Toy’s House to be a fresh, funny and heartwarming story that is a loving throwback for a new generation.”
And director Vogt-Roberts said, “Toy’s House couldn’t have found a better home than with CBS Films. We set out to make a comedy that was hilarious and full of heart – but most importantly we set out to make a comedy that was engaging. CBS Films is so passionate about this movie and share my thoughts that comedy can be poignant and beautiful. The response at Sundance has been overwhelming and I can’t wait for CBS Films to share Toy’s House with audiences everywhere.”
The Plot:
Toy’s House follows three teenage boys (Robinson, Basso and Arias) as they head into the wilderness with a plan to build a house and live off the land.
I hope the rest of the film is a little more interesting than this clip…
Sony Pictures Classics just picked up Austenland at Sundance, however most of the news articles about the acquisition highlighted the fact the film’s produced by Twilight author Stephenie Meyer rather than what the movie’s actually about. Directed by Jerusha Hess, the romantic comedy stars Keri Russell, Bret McKenzie, Jane Seymour, James Callis, Ricky Whittle and Jennifer Coolidge – and here’s what it’s actually about:
“Austenland is a romantic comedy about 30-something, singe Jane Hayes, a seemingly normal young woman with a secret: her obsession with all things Jane Austen. But when she decides to spend her life savings on a trip to an English resort catering to Austen-crazed women, Jane’s fantasies of meeting the perfect Regency-era gentleman suddenly become more real than she ever could have imagined.”
Bam Margera isn’t deserting his Jackass roots as a game show host. No, he’s keeping the ‘ass’ part of Jackass, naming his new competition series Bam’s Bad Ass Game Show. TBS has just given the series, described as “over-the-top,” a six half-hour episode order.
Bam’s Bad Ass Game Show won’t be premiering on TBS until 2014, but the network’s already filling us in on what we can expect from the new series:
“Each week on Bam’s Bad Ass Game Show, competitors will vie for $10,000 by facing off against each other in incredibly demented, potentially dangerous and occasionally painful challenges, like answering trivia questions while dangling above a pool of trash-filled water or dropping a watermelon on a target after being shot out of a cannon. The loser of each challenge is eliminated until there’s only one contestant left standing to take home the cash prize.
Helping design and demonstrate the various challenges are Bam’s friends and cohorts, who occasionally wind up worse off than any of the contestants.”
Margera’s executive producing the series with David A. Hurwitz (Fear Factor) and Noah Bonnett (Total Blackout).

Josh Duhamel will soon be seen in theaters starring in the latest romantic movie based on a Nicholas Sparks book, Safe Haven. There, he’ll be providing a little eye candy for the female audience. But on March 23, 2013, he’s going to be performing for a younger audience. Duhamel’s been tapped to host the 2013 Kids’ Choice Awards.
Duhamel’s been slimed before, so he’s well aware of what the Nickelodeon show is all about. However, this year will mark his debut as host.
“Josh has come out to play before for Kids’ Choice and as a previous ‘best arm fart’ winner we know he’ll do what it takes to be a great host,” stated Marjorie Cohn, President, Content Development for Nickelodeon and Executive Producer of the Kids’ Choice Awards. “We promise that this year will deliver the special, one-of-a-kind surprise-filled slimefest for which our annual telecast is famous.”
Duhamel commented on his upcoming hosting gig: “Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards is a great event that celebrates kids by honoring their opinions and taps into the kid in all of us. I have a lot of secret plans for when I host the awards, but I can tell you I’m excited to lead millions of kids into total crazy fun, chaos …and, of course, endless slime!”
