Heather Headley Set to Release Only One In The World Next Month

Heather HeadleyGrammy and Tony Award winning singer/actress Heather Headley will be releasing Only One In The World on September 25, 2012. The upcoming CD features new songs she wrote for the album as well as R&B hits and a song from The Bodyguard: A New Musical. Headley will be making her London West End stage debut this fall in the production of The Bodyguard, taking on the role Whitney Houston played in the feature film. And
Only One In The World will include “Run to You” from The Bodyguard.
 
“I’m incredibly honored to play Rachel in the musical version of The Bodyguard, but I’m also really excited to bring the new music to my fans on my upcoming CD,” said Headley. “I wanted to record songs that are inspiring and uplifting, songs I love singing, and I hope my fans enjoy the variety of songs that I put together for them on Only One In The World.”
 
Paul Mills and Keith Thomas produced the album.

Born on the Caribbean island of Trinidad the daughter of a pastor, Headley started singing and playing piano in church at a young age. Since, her multi-faceted career has been a blessing. Headley won a Tony Award in 2000 for best actress in a musical for her role in Aida and originated the role of Nala in Broadway’s The Lion King. In 2002, her debut album This Is Who I Am was nominated for two Grammy® Awards, and in 2010, she won a Grammy® in the best contemporary R&B Gospel album for Audience of One.

Dimension Films Gets Angry Little God

Dimension Films LogoThe psychological thriller Angry Little God has found a home with Dimension Films. Dimension just announced they’ve snatched up the US distribution rights to the film which is an English-language remake of the Thai thriller 13: Game of Death. Daniel Stamm (The Last Exorcism) is directing and Jason Blum (Sinister, Insidious) is executive producing.
 
“I was blown away by Daniel Stamm’s direction in The Last Exorcism and have wanted to work with him ever since,” said Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company. “We look forward to bringing his suspenseful Angry Little God to American audiences.”
 
The Plot:
 
“Stamm and his writing partner David Birke adapted the script from the original film which follows a bright but meek social services coordinator who’s drowning in debt and desperate as he’s about to marry the love of his life. He receives a mysterious phone call informing him that he’s on a hidden camera game show where he must execute 13 tasks to receive a cash prize of over $6,000,000. He accepts the challenge, but even with thousands of dollars suddenly appearing in his bank account, he realizes he’s in over his head. Trapped into the horrors manipulated by unseen spectators, his need to complete the game escalates as the tasks grow more extreme, to a devastating point of no return.”

Matthew Broderick is The Dream Warrior

Matthew Broderick is lending his voice to an upcoming episode of Cartoon Network’s animated series Adventure Time. Broderick, who will forever be known as Ferris Bueller to a generation of moviegoers, will be playing a new character called The Dream Warrior on the “Who Would Win” episode airing Monday, September 3, 2012 at 7:30p ET/PT.
 
The Dream Warrior is a used car salesman who is “summoned by series protagonists Finn and Jake in a shared, extraordinary dream to offer advice on defeating a substantial rival.”
 
“I heard about Adventure Time because my son, James, loves it,” said Broderick of the Cartoon Network series, “I like that it doesn’t talk down to anybody.”
 
The current season of Adventure Time also features guest voices by Donald Faison, George Takei, Erik Estrada, Andy Milonakis, Emo Phillips, Bobcat Goldthwait and Susie Essman.
 
The Plot:
 
Adventure Time introduces viewers to unlikely heroes Finn and Jake, buddies who traverse the mystical Land of Ooo and encounter its colorful inhabitants. The best of friends, our heroes always find themselves in the middle of heart-pounding escapades. Finn, a silly kid with an awesome hat and Jake, a brassy dog with a big kind heart, depend on each other through thick and thin. From the mind of first-time series creator Pendleton Ward and Cartoon Network Studios, Ooo is a land built for adventure.

The Return of Key and Peele

Season two of Comedy Central’s Key & Peele debuts on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 10:30pm ET/PT, with this upcoming season’s guest stars to include Wayne Brady, Kevin Sorbo, Rob Delaney, Billy Dee Williams and Brenda Song. Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele return to star in the sketch-comedy show which tackles issues like race relations and addresses culturally relevant events/people.
 
2.1 milion viewers tuned in for the season one premiere, which made Key & Peele, one) Comedy Central’s biggest launch since 2009, and two) a no-brainer for renewal. Season one will be available on DVD and Blu-ray on September 25th.
 
The Details:
 
Key & Peele features Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, who are best known for their impressive ability for improv, celebrity impressions and conjuring up original characters. The show utilizes a combination of filmed sketches and live stage segments to examine life in a provocative and irreverent way, from two men used to being on the outside looking in. Whether it’s satirizing the President, spoofing musical acts, or introducing Mary Magdalene’s pimp, Key & Peele showcases their chemistry, camaraderie and unique point of view, born from their shared background and experiences growing up biracial in a not quite post-racial world.

‘The Wendy Williams Show’ Returns in September

The Wendy Williams Show is coming back for season four, kicking off on September 10, 2012 with a new set design (with more pinks and purples) and an extended “Hot Topics” segment. “It’s season four and The Wendy Williams Show feels more energetic than ever,” said Debmar-Mercury Co-Presidents Mort Marcus and Ira Bernstein. “Audiences can sense that Wendy’s having fun; and viewers and affiliates are responding to that enthusiasm.”

“I am so excited to be in this beautiful new studio and doing what I love,” added Williams. “There have been so many hot topics this summer and I can’t wait to talk about them with my audience.”

Williams has also added two new talent producers, Stephanie Sacco, and Anthony Lopez, to the behind-the-scenes team. And Emmy award-winning producer David Perler will be back as Executive Producer.

The Details: The Wendy Williams Show is taped live in New York and features Williams’ distinctive and entertaining personality, as well as a diverse mix of celebrity guests from television, film, music and sports. Popular segments include “Ask Wendy,” during which she offers real advice to audience members looking for solutions to problems, and “Hot Topics,” where she delivers her own authentic take on the juiciest headlines.

Dick Van Dyke to Receive Life Achievement Award

The Screen Actors Guild has chosen Dick Van Dyke as the recipient of the 2012 SAG Life Achievement Award to be presented during the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday, January 27, 2013. SAG’s highest honor is given out to an actor who fosters the “finest ideals of the acting profession,” and acknowledges their career achievements as well as their humanitarian accomplishments.
 
SAG-AFTRA Co-President Ken Howard made the announcement, stating: “Dick is the consummate entertainer — an enormously talented performer whose work has crossed nearly every major category of entertainment. From his career-changing Broadway turn in Bye Bye Birdie and his deadpan humor in the Emmy® winning Dick Van Dyke Show, to his unforgettable performance as Bert in Mary Poppins, he sets a high bar for actors. Stage, big screen, small screen, literally everywhere he has worked he has inspired millions of fans and has had a tremendously positive impact on the industry and the world. He is so deserving of this honor and I congratulate him.”
 
SAG-AFTRA Co-President Roberta Reardon added: “With Dick, it’s so much more than the proverbial ‘triple threat.’ He started his career as a radio announcer, game show host and comedian and was a spokesman for Kodak, among numerous other roles over his nearly 60-year career. His contributions to the success of the business and to his fellow performers is legendary as is his work with a number of the leading ladies of our times, including Julie Andrews and Mary Tyler Moore — both previous Life Achievement Award recipients. Over the course of his career, 86 year old Van Dyke has earned five Emmys, a Tony, and a Grammy.
 
The 2012 Screen Actors Guild Awards will air live on TNT and TBS on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at 8 p.m. ET, 7 p.m. CT, 6 p.m. MT and 5 p.m. PT.

SnagFilms Snags The House I Live In

The House I Live InSnagFilms has acquired the North American distribution rights to the Sundance Film Festival’s Grand Jury Prize winner, The House I Live In. Directed by Eugene Jarecki (Why We Fight, Reagan), the documentary examines America’s war on drugs. “From the dealer to the narcotics officer, the inmate to the federal judge, the film offers a penetrating look inside America’s criminal justice system, revealing the profound human rights implications of U.S. drug policy.”
 
SnagFilms also just picked up Beware of Mr. Baker, the 2012 SXSW Film Festival Grand Jury Award winner. Beware of Mr. Baker tells the story of Ginger Baker, a drummer who worked with artists such as Eric Clapton in Cream and Blind Faith and is considered to be one of the world’s best drummers. “This controversial and unforgettable musician reflects back on his life along with interviews with Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Steve Winwood, Charlie Watts, Max Weinberg and many more.”

Filmmaker Stacy Peralta has unveiled the world premiere of the trailer for Bones Brigade: An Autobiography, a documentary on the skateboard legends who made up the Bones Brigade. Releasing the trailer, Peralta stated: “We are very excited because we’re releasing Bones Brigade: An Autobiography primarily by ourselves, in a new and modern way. The only place to fully experience the film will be through our Bones Brigade website; where myself, Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Lance Mountain, Mike McGill, Rodney Mullen and Tommy Guerrero will interact directly with fans. The trailer premiere, new site and free download is our way of including fans right from the start in the process of releasing the film. I hope they have fun and share it with everyone who loves skateboarding, its history and the Bones Brigade.”

The Story:

It’s not a death metal band, an extreme diet club or historic dominoes association—the Bones Brigade was a talented gang of teenage outcasts. Unmotivated by fame or popularity, they completely dedicated their lives to a disrespected art form. For most of the 1980s, this misfit crew headed by a 1970s ex-skateboard champion blasted the industry with a mixture of art and raw talent becoming the most popular skateboarding team in history.

The core unit of the Bones Brigade built an empire that covered the world. They dominated contests, made hundreds of thousands of dollars, created the modern skateboard video, reinvented endemic advertising, pushed skate progression into a new era, and set the stage for a totally new form of skating called street style. There’s nothing comparable in today’s skateboarding.

‘Twilight’ Fans Set a Twitter Record

According to Summit Entertainment, The Twilight Saga has become the first movie to have 1 million Twitter followers. @Twilight was created in October 2009 and now has 50% more followers than any other Twitter movie account, so says the studio.

Summit’s made good use of Twitter over the years, tweeting out links to exclusive content from the popular vampire series.

The Highlights:
– 1.7 million views to the Breaking Dawn Part 2 trailer were generated via the Twitter link;
– For Eclipse, Summit released a new soundtrack title and artist every half hour;
– Fans were asked to tweet how many screenings they’d been to of New Moon, with director Chris Weitz calling the winner.

In appreciation of the fan support, Summit released a video to thank their million followers. However, if you’re hoping for a message from any of the cast, you’re out of luck. The video actually features screaming fans and not anyone from any of the Twilight films.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 hit theaters on November 16, 2012.

Summit Entertainment’s The Impossible directed by J.A. Bayona (The Orphanage) and starring Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts has just premiered a theatrical trailer. Based on the true story of events that occurred during and immediately after the devastating 2004 tsunami, The Impossible follows one family’s journey to survey the deadly natural disaster.

The Impossible is hitting theaters on December 21, 2012.

The Plot:

Maria (Naomi Watts), Henry (Ewan McGregor), and their three sons begin their winter vacation in Thailand, looking forward to a few days in a tropical paradise. But on the morning of December 26th, as the family relaxes around the pool after their Christmas festivities the night before, a terrifying roar rises up from the center of the earth. As Maria freezes in fear, a huge wall of black water races across the hotel grounds toward her.

The Impossible is the powerful and unforgettable account of a family caught, with tens of thousands of strangers, in the mayhem of one of the worst natural catastrophes of our time. But the true-life terror is tempered by the unexpected displays of compassion, courage and simple kindness that Maria and her family encounter during the darkest hours of their lives.
