Gotye Announces 2012 North American Tour Dates

Gotye Making Mirrors

Gotye just sent out a blast to his fans thanking everyone for their support and for “listening to my stuff recently.” Saying things have become kind of absurd and that he can’t believe how far his music – made in his folks’ barn – has traveled, Gotye announced he’s coming back to North America beginning in August.

The upcoming tour dates reflect a mix of cities Gotye played in March and April as well as new venues. And if you want to get the scoop on purchasing tickets, be sure to like his Facebook page or sign up for his mailing list by 12 am EST on June 4th.

Gotye offered this explanation as to what we can expect from the upcoming tour: “To all y’all long-time listeners, the guys in the band and I are working on a bunch of older songs for upcoming shows – lots of folks were asking for tracks from Boardface and Like Drawing Blood that we haven’t played live before. It’s gonna be fab to extend the show and play some different things for you, and share for the first time some new visuals from some amazing animators I’ve been lucky to work with recently.”

Rebecca Ferguson Releases Her Debut Album

Rebecca Ferguson Heaven

British X Factor standout Rebecca Ferguson has just released her first album, Heaven, on Syco/Columbia Records and she made her U.S. television debut this week on The Today Show, followed by an appearance on The View.

Watch Rebecca Ferguson on The View:

Ferguson first caught the attention of British X Factor fans during the 2010 selection rounds. She proved to be a fan favorite, however, she wasn’t able to snag a first-place finish. But coming in second hasn’t slowed her down, and when she sang her first single off of Heaven on the show late last year, pre-sales of her album went up 700% on Amazon.com.

Ferguson counts Grammy winner Adele among her fans. “She’s been such a support and said such lovely things about me,” said Rebecca. “She even admitted she voted for me 80 times when I was on the show. She means every word she sings, which I love.”

‘Hatfields and McCoys’ is Huge Hit for the History Channel

The Hatfields and the McCoys

13.9 million viewers tuned in to the Memorial Day premiere of the History Channel’s Hatfields and McCoys, with the war between the two families blazing to life on the small screen starring Kevin Costner as Devil Anse Hatfield and Bill Paxton as Randall McCoy. And the popularity of the three-part miniseries has made a book published 30 years ago into a current bestseller.

It wasn’t until the History Channel’s miniseries aired that The Hatfields and the McCoys, written by Otis K. Rice and published by the University Press of Kentucky, found success. The ebook is now on both Amazon’s and Barnes and Noble’s bestseller lists, thanks to Hatfields and McCoys‘ viewers desire for further information on the feuding families.

According to University Press of Kentucky, the book “draws upon an impressive array of court records, public documents, official correspondence, and other documentary evidence to present an account that frees, as much as possible, fact from fiction and event from legend.”

More on the Author:

Otis K. Rice (1919–2003) was professor emeritus of history at West Virginia University Institute of Technology. He was the recipient of many awards and was named West Virginia’s first Historian Laureate on July 22, 2003.

More on Garth Brooks [Courtesy of Wynn Las Vegas]:

Certified by the RIAA in 2000 as the #1-selling solo artist in U.S. history, Garth Brooks has sold in excess of 128 million albums and has received every accolade the recording industry can bestow on an artist.

In 2001, Brooks retired and moved back to Oklahoma to raise his children. In 2008, The President Elect, himself, requested that Brooks headline President Obama’s Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial. A crowd of over 300,000 did the “wave” to Brooks’ performance of “Shout” while the President sang along. That same year, the Governor of California asked Brooks to help the state. He performed five concerts in two days with the proceeds from 83,000 tickets donated to efforts to prevent fire catastrophes. Portions of the live concerts were shown as a TV special, Garth Brooks: Live in L.A. allowing viewers to donate as well.

In December 2010, Brooks finished an astonishing nine sold out concerts in six days to raise money for the flood relief efforts in Tennessee. ABC World News Tonight declared Brooks “The Person of the Week” and the Mayor of Nashville announced that this was a record December for downtown Nashville merchants due to the over 145,000 who attended the concerts.

In January 2012, he was named the best-selling artist of the last two decades by Billboard, Nielsen and SoundScan, with a whopping 68.5 million sales. Brooks was recently inducted into the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame and will be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame this fall. Brooks also sold out his upcoming appearance at the 100th anniversary of the Calgary Stampede. All 15,000+ seats sold out in less than a minute.
