‘Nothin’ But a Good Time’ Trailer Rips Back the Curtain on Heavy Metal Bands

Paramount+’s official Nothin’ But a Good Time: The Uncensored Story of ’80s Hair Metal trailer teases the documentary series is a backstage pass to the “greatest stories never told.” The three-part docuseries will premiere on Paramount+ on September 17, 2024.

“Based on the New York Times best-selling book Nothin’ But a Good Time: The Uncensored History of the ’80s Hard Rock Explosion by esteemed rock journalists Tom Beaujour and Richard Bienstock, the series delivers a fresh and shockingly candid behind-the-scenes look at one of music’s most iconic eras,” reads Paramount+’s synopsis. “Each episode showcases the insanity and blazing ambition that has enthralled generations of music lovers and continues to influence culture to this day.”

Jeff Tremaine (jackass, The Dirt) directed and serves as an executive producer along with Shanna Newton for Gorilla Flicks; Eric Wattenberg, Scott Lonker and Will Nothacker for Wheelhouse’s Spoke Studios; Erik Olsen; and Bruce Gillmer and Michael Maniaci for MTV Entertainment Studios. The docuseries is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, Gorilla Flicks, and Spoke Studios.

“I’m honored to be part of this docuseries, named after the hit Poison song ‘Nothin’ But A Good Time,'” said Bret Michaels. “I’m excited for viewers to take a fresh look at the fans and bands, highs and lows, and to celebrate the music and good times of the ’80s and beyond. In addition to Bret Michaels, the documentary series features interviews with Stephen Pearcy, Nuno Bettencourt, Dave “Snake” Sabo, Riki Rachtman, Corey Taylor, and Steve-O.

‘The Wonderland Massacre’ Trailer: Michael Connelly Dives Into the Quadruple Murder

Bestselling author Michael Connelly (The Lincoln Lawyer, Bosch) guides viewers through the true story that inspired Boogie Nights in MGM+’s The Wonderland Massacre & The Secret History of Hollywood. The four-part true crime documentary series premieres on September 8, 2024 at 10pm ET/PT.

Connolly stars in the docuseries, based on his Audible podcast, with Alison Ellwood directing.

“In this MGM+ Original series, best-selling crime novelist Michael Connelly takes us on a wild journey into the twisted story of the massacre at Wonderland Avenue on July 1, 1981 – one of Hollywood’s most famous murder cases that has fascinated people for more than 40 years. This case symbolized an era in Los Angeles – involving sex, drugs, rock n’ roll… and murder,” reads MGM+’s synopsis. “In noir-style, verité interviews, Connelly seeks key details about this gruesome quadruple murder with the original detectives, prosecutors, and undercover cops he’d come to know as a young crime beat reporter for The Los Angeles Times. As the investigation unfolds, weaving in rare archival footage and photos, a colorful cast of characters emerges – famous porn star John Holmes, drug dealers and kingpins, mafiosos, televangelists and multiple celebrities, including Liberace and his boyfriend, enigma Scott Thorson.

In a game of cat-and-mouse, Connelly tries to pin down the facts of Thorson’s many larger-than-life and stranger-than-fiction stories. After four decades, Thorson’s interview may be the last to help distinguish between the crime and the truth. But do we believe him?”

Connelly, Ellwood, Jen Casey, Nick Gilhool, Rick Jackson, and IPC’s Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman executive produce. The docuseries is produced by Sony Pictures Television’s The Intellectual Property Corporation (IPC) in association with Miziker Entertainment, Hieronymus Pictures, and One Traveler.

Crime novelist Michael Connelly revisits one of the most famous murder cases in the history of Los Angeles – the 1981 massacre at Wonderland Avenue – which involved a colorful cast of characters, including a legendary porn star and a drug kingpin.

Episode 2: The Man Who Knew Too Much – September 15, 2024
A key witness in the case, Scott Thorson, shares what he overheard the night of the murders, as well as the details of his extraordinary life with Liberace, Hollywood elite, and the drug underworld of 1980s Los Angeles.

Episode 3: Up in Smoke – September 22, 2024
Scott Thorson tells of building a drug empire in Hollywood in the 1980s, while the crack epidemic in Los Angeles explodes – all before being discovered as the missing puzzle piece to the Wonderland case almost a decade after the murders.

Episode 4: The Last Man Standing – September 29, 2024
In 1990, Scott Thorson testifies against the alleged mastermind behind the massacre at Wonderland. The trial doesn’t go as planned, and Thorson enters witness protection. What ensues is a stranger-than-fiction series of events… if we believe him.

‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story’ Preview: Teaser, Cast and Premiere Date

Netflix has set a September 19, 2024 premiere date for the second Monsters installment, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. The first season of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s true-crime anthology series focused on serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer (played by Evan Peters), and season two examines the case of the brothers who claimed they murdered their parents, Kitty and Jose, after years of abuse.

“While the prosecution argued they were seeking to inherit their family fortune, the brothers claimed – and remain adamant to this day, as they serve life sentences without the possibility of parole – that their actions stemmed out of fear from a lifetime of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse at the hands of their parents,” reads Netflix’s synopsis. “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story dives into the historic case that took the world by storm, paved the way for audiences’ modern-day fascination with true crime, and in return asks those audiences: Who are the real monsters?”

Murphy and Brennan executive produce along with Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, David McMillan, Louise Shore, and Carl Franklin

Netflix’s Tudum released the following cast and character descriptions:

  • Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny star as parents Jose and Kitty Menendez, with newcomers Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch portraying brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez.
  • Nathan Lane joins the cast as investigative journalist Dominick Dunne, who covered the trials for Vanity Fair.
  • Ari Graynor will play Leslie Abramson, one of the most prominent Los Angeles defense attorneys in the ’80s and ’90s who becomes lead counsel for Erik Menendez.
  • Leslie Grossman (American Horror Story) will play Judalon Smyth, a former patient and mistress of Erik Menendez’s therapist, Dr. Jerome Oziel, who found herself entangled in the Menendez case — and who ultimately played a key role in Lyle and Erik’s arrests.
  • Dallas Roberts will play Dr. Jerome Oziel, the self-protective and not-entirely-by-the-book therapist who Erik Menendez sees after the murder of his parents.
  • Jason Butler Harner will play Les Zoeller, the Beverly Hills PD detective in charge of the Menendez murders case. A to-the-point, logical man in search of the truth.
  • Enrique Murciano will play Carlos Baralt, an Americanized Cuban immigrant, professor, and lawyer. He’s the uncle of Lyle and Erik, brother-in-law to Jose Menendez, and the executor of the Menendez will.
  • Michael Gladis will play Tim Rutten, Drew Powell is Detective Tom Linehan, Charlie Hall plays Craig Cignarelli, and Gil Ozeri plays Dr. William Vicary. Jeff Perry is on board as Peter Hoffman, Tessa Auberjonois is Dr. Laurel Oziel, Tanner Stine is Perry Berman, Larry Clarke is Brian Andersen, Jade Pettyjohn is Jamie Pisarcik, and Marlene Forte plays Marta Cano.

‘Hamnet’ with Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley Goes to Focus Features

Focus Features has added Hamnet to its theatrical release slate. Two-time Oscar winner Chloé Zhao (Nomadland) adapted the novel with author Maggie O’Farrell and directs.

From publisher Hachette UK’s site: “On a summer’s day in 1596, a young girl in Stratford-upon-Avon takes to her bed with a fever. Her twin brother, Hamnet, searches everywhere for help. Why is nobody at home? Their mother, Agnes, is over a mile away, in the garden where she grows medicinal herbs. Their father is working in London. Neither parent knows that one of the children will not survive the week.

Hamnet is a novel inspired by the son of a famous playwright. It is a story of the bond between twins, and of a marriage pushed to the brink by grief. It is also the story of a kestrel and its mistress, and a glovemaker’s son who flouts convention in pursuit of the woman he loves. Above all, it is a tender and unforgettable reimagining of a boy whose life has been all but forgotten but whose name was given to one of the most celebrated plays ever written.”

The cast includes Academy Award nominees Jessie Buckley (Women Talking), Paul Mescal (All of Us Strangers), and Emily Watson (Breaking The Waves, Hilary and Jackie). Joe Alwyn (The Favourite) also stars.

Focus Features will release the film in the United States, with Universal Pictures International distributing it internationally. Liza Marshall, Pippa Harris, Sam Mendes, and Steven Spielberg serve as producers. Kristie Macosko Krieger, Nic Gonda, and Laurie Borg executive produce. Hamnet‘s produced by Amblin Partners, Hera Pictures, and Neal Street Productions, in association with Book of Shadows.

Released in March 2020, Maggie O’Farrell’s earned a National Book Critics Circle Award as well as The Women’s Prize for Fiction.

‘Y2K’ Trailer: Bow Down to Our Electronic Overlords

A24’s Y2K trailer feels like a mix of Super Bad and This Is The End set during that weird period when the world wondered what would happen at midnight on December 31st, 1999. Directed by SNL‘s Kyle Mooney, Y2K is coming to theaters on December 6, 2024.

The comedy’s cast includes Jaeden Martell, Rachel Zegler, Julian Dennison, and The Kid Laroi. Alicia Silverstone, Tim Heidecker, and Fred Durst also star.

A24 offered this description of Mooney’s comedy: “On the last night of 1999, two high school juniors crash a New Years Eve party, only to find themselves fighting for their lives in this dial-up disaster comedy.”

‘Azrael’ Trailer: Samara Weaving Faces Silent Terror

Samara Weaving must have really enjoyed starring in Ready or Not because in Azrael she’s once again being hunted and on the run, although this time it’s an evil entity that wants her dead instead of rich psycho in-laws. Directed by Cheap Thrills‘ E.L. Katz, Azrael opens in theaters on September 27, 2024.

In addition to Samara Weaving, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Vic Carmen Sonne, Katariina Unt, and Sebastian Bull Sarning.

“In a world in which no one speaks, a mysterious, devout community hunts down a young woman named Azrael (Weaving) who has escaped their imprisonment. Recaptured by its ruthless leaders, she is to be sacrificed to pacify an evil which resides deep within the surrounding wilderness – but Azrael will stop at nothing to ensure her own freedom and survival,” reads IFC Films’ synopsis. “From the seeds of this gritty, relentless parable of sacrifice and salvation, comes an immersive, real-time, action horror tale from the visionary minds of Simon Barrett and E.L. ‘Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft’ Drops an Action-Packed Animated Teaser

Netflix’s first teaser for Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft picks up the story of the video game heroine 25 years after the video game Survivor trilogy (Tomb Raider, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider). The streamer’s trailer was accompanied by more details on the series, along with three stills from the animated series.

Hayley Atwell voices Lara Croft, Allen Maldonado voices Zip, and Earl Baylon reprises his role as Jonah from the video games.

“More than 25 years after her first appearance, Lara Croft (voiced by Hayley Atwell) continues to explore ancient mysteries and uncover lost truths across breathtaking and dangerous destinations,” reads Netflix’s synopsis. “Following the events of the Survivor series, Lara Croft has abandoned her friends to embark on increasingly more perilous solo adventures. But she must return home when a dangerous and powerful Chinese artifact is stolen from Croft Manor by a thief with an uncanny personal connection. Her daring pursuit will take her on an adventure around the world and to the depths of forgotten tombs, where she will be forced to confront her true self and decide just what kind of hero she wants to become.”

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft will premiere on October 10, 2024.

‘K-Pop Idols’ Reveals the Realities of Stardom in the High-Stakes World of K-Pop

Apple TV+’s first trailer for K-Pop Idols provides a glimpse behind the scenes at the blood, sweat, and tears it takes to become a K-pop star. The six-episode documentary series will premiere on August 30, 2024.

“In K-Pop Idols, viewers will follow Jessi as she embarks on her first solo tour, CRAVITY as they navigate the pressures of impressing their agency, and BLACKSWAN as they grapple with internal tensions and dramatic shake-ups. The series delves into the personal and professional challenges these artists face—from Jessi’s reflections on life and career to the fierce competition within BLACKSWAN and CRAVITY’s creative evolution,” reads Apple TV+’s synopsis.

“As the journey unfolds, audiences will experience the highs and lows of the K-pop world, from international performances and family connections to unexpected news and pivotal career decisions. The series culminates in a powerful exploration of dreams, reality, and the relentless drive to succeed on the global stage—as a K-pop idol.”

Todd Lubin (Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry), Jack Turner (Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields), Elise Chung (Bling Empire), Bradley Cramp (Lord of War), Chris Kasick (Citizen Sleuth), Eric Yujin Kim (Undoing), Jay Peterson (Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry), and Sue Kim (The Speed Cubers) serve as executive producers.

‘Pachinko’ Season 2 Unveils an Intense Episode 1 Clip

Apple TV+’s critically acclaimed Pachinko season two premieres on August 23, 2024, and in support the streamer has unveiled a clip from the first episode. New episodes of the much-anticipated eight-episode second season will stream on Fridays.

“Based on The New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, Pachinko is a sweeping and deeply moving story of love and survival across four generations, told through the eyes of a remarkable matriarch, Sunja,” reads Apple TV+’s synopsis. “In season two, the parallel stories pick up in Osaka in 1945, where Sunja is forced to make dangerous decisions for her family’s survival during World War II, and in Tokyo in 1989, which finds Solomon exploring new, humble beginnings.”

Apple TV+’s episode one description: “World War II forces Sunja to make dangerous decisions for her family’s survival. Pushed to the edge, Solomon takes a stand.”

Created and written by Soo Hugh, season two stars Lee Minho, Yuh-Jung Youn, Minha Kim, Anna Sawai, Jin Ha, Eunchae Jung, Soji Arai, and Sungkyu Kim. Hugh serves as executive producer along with Blue Marble Pictures’ Theresa Kang and Media Res’ Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer. Leanne Welham, Arvin Chen, and Sang-il Lee directed season two episodes.

The first season earned a Critics Choice award for Best Foreign Language and won the Best Ensemble Cast in a New Scripted Series award at the 2023 Film Independent Spirit Awards. It also earned a Peabody Award, an American Film Institute Award, and a Gotham Independent Film Award.

‘Bad Sisters’ Season 2 Preview: Plot, Cast, and Premiere Date

Apple TV+’s critically acclaimed comedic drama Bad Sisters finally has a confirmed premiere date for season two. The series premiered on the streamer in August 2022, and the eight-episode second season has landed on a November 13, 2024 launch date.

The first two episodes will stream on November 13th, followed by new episodes on Wednesdays.

The premiere date announcement was accompanied by the first photo featuring the series’ stars. Bad Sisters creator Sharon Horgan returns as Eva, Anne-Marie Duff is back as Grace, Eva Birthistle reprises her role as Ursula, Sarah Greene is Bibi, and Eve Hewson returns as Becka. Michael Smiley, Saise Quinn, Daryl McCormack, Yasmine Akram, Jonjo O’Neill, Deirdre Mullins, Lorcan Cranitch, Liz Fitzgibbon, and Justine Mitchell also star.

New to the dysfunctional world of the Garvey sisters are Fiona Shaw, Owen McDonnell, Thaddea Graham, Barry Ward, and Peter Claffey.

“Two years after the ‘accidental death’ of ‘Grace’s abusive husband, the close-knit Garvey sisters may have moved on but when past truths resurface, the ladies are thrust back into the spotlight, suspicions are at an all-time high, lies are told, secrets revealed and the sisters are forced to work out who they can trust,” reads Apple TV+’s synopsis.

Nominated for four Emmy Awards, the BAFTA winner is executive produced by Bert Hamelnick, Michael Sagol, Dave Finkel, Brett Baer, Malin-Sarah Gozin, and Horgan, Faye Dorn, and Clelia Mountford for Merman. Dearbhla Walsh directs and executive produces.

Bad Sisters season one earned a Peabody Award and was nominated for Critics Choice and WGA awards. It currently sits at a rare 100% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
