Oscar Show Recap 2012

“Oh it’s a wonderful night for Oscar, Oscar, Oscar. Who will Win,” so begins the 84th Academy Awards broadcast with Billy Crystal returning as host for the 9th time on what turned out to be a funny, classy and overall enjoyable Oscar show. Now that the winners have left with their Oscars in hand, and most of Hollywood is recovering from the famous late night after parties, here’s a list of the show’s most memorable moments:

THE HIGHLIGHTS

– Billy Crystal’s produced opening with him once again inserting himself into scenes from some of the films nominated for Oscars this year as well as a few scenes re-created with the help of George Clooney and Tom Cruise.

– Crystal’s opening monologue with some very funny jokes including the new name for what used to be the Kodak Theatre now to be renamed The Chapter 11 Theatre.

– The classiest acceptance speech came from Christopher Plummer (Beginners) who at 82 finally won his first Oscar and becomes the oldest actor to receive the Academy Award. His speech was honest, sweet and funny, with his first line being to Oscar itself: “You’re only two years older than I, my darling. Where have you been all my life?!”

– Octavia Spencer (The Help) gets the ‘almost too emotional’ vote for her stumbling and fumbling for words when she received her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Heartfelt and fighting through her tears, she showed her peers and the audience just how much winning the Academy Award meant to her.

– After several years of doing a horrible presentation of “In Memoriam,” the Academy finally got it right by simply focusing on a montage of photos of those we lost this year with a lovely rendition of the song “What a Wonderful World.” Elegant, sad, and touching, it was the perfect way to reflect and remember many talented artists whose like we will never see again.

– Keeping the show almost on time, coming in at 3 hours and 11 minutes. Finally Oscar seems to be learning what to keep short, and gave the time to be creative and funny back to the host where it belongs…especially when it’s Mr. Billy Crystal.

‘Jeff, Who Lives at Home’ Details: Trailer, Photos and Cast

Jason Segel and Ed Helms star in 'Jeff, Who Lives at Home'

Starring: Ed Helms and Jason Segel [full cast list under the ‘Cast’ tab]
Directed By: Jay and Mark Duplass
Release Date: March 2, 2012
Genre: Comedy
Running Time: 83 minutes
MPAA Rating: R for language including sexual references and some drug use

Official Synopsis: Not really much of a self-starter – unless you count bouts of philosophizing and repeated viewings of the movie “Signs” – Jeff (Jason Segel) rarely ventures far beyond his home…which happens to be in the basement of his mother’s Baton Rouge house where he and his now estranged brother, Pat (Ed Helms), grew up. Still concerned but completely out of ideas as to getting Jeff to move forward with his life, his mother Sharon (Susan Sarandon) has whittled her own dreams for her eldest son down to completing the simple tasks she hopes Jeff might accomplish before she gets home from her civil service job. Today, it’s about wood glue – could he simply make it to the store to buy some of the stuff to repair a loose slat in a shutter door?

Well, he can try. But for Jeff, life is anything but simple, as he sets out mindful of his goal and armed with his own special view of the world. He is convinced that if a person can just listen for signs in the universe, a path will be made clear. Thanks to an earlier wrong-number call looking for someone named Kevin, Jeff believes that Kevin is key to finding his way…at least for today. The simple task he sets out to accomplish quickly becomes forgotten, as Jeff encounters a series of comedic and unexpected events that lead him to cross paths with his family in the strangest of locations and circumstances. Along the way, Jeff just may find the meaning of his life… and if he’s lucky, pick up the wood glue as well.

Katy Perry Set to Guest Star on Raising Hope

Katy Perry’s trying her hand at acting again with a guest starring role on Fox’s hit comedy, Raising Hope. Perry will be guest-starring on the March 6, 2012 (8pm ET/PT) episode titled “Single White Female Role Model.” Perry, whose previous acting jobs include a guest appearance on How I Met Your Mother and voicing Smurfette on The Smurfs, will be playing a prison attendant named Rikki who “claims to be a friend from Sabrina’s (Shannon Woodward) past.”

“Shannon Woodward told me that her friend Katy was interested in doing an episode and I thought, ‘Why not? Let’s do your friend Katy a favor,’” stated executive producer Greg Garcia. “Then she came in and did a terrific job. She was hilarious. And now people are telling me that Katy is also a singer. I sincerely hope that her appearance on the show helps her get her singing career off the ground. It’s a tough business.”

Perry said, “Shannon Woodward is my best friend. A couple weeks ago, I was home, just toasting up a frozen chicken fillet when she called me up and asked if I wanted to do something ‘fun’ for a change and try out a guest role on her TV show. I thought, ‘Sure, I have nothing else to do, and I like chillin’ with my best friend.’ Greg was nice, but I hope he’s not secretly sabotaging my potential future career by type-casting me in the role of just a looker, so that I would never be able to play anything more challenging.”

The “Single White Female Role Model” Synopsis:

In the all-new episode, Sabrina is arrested after participating in an Occupy Natesville protest and is sentenced to two weeks in prison. Rikki (Perry), the prison attendant, will stop at nothing to make Sabrina’s stay in the slammer as dreadful as possible, until she remembers their childhood friendship. Meanwhile, the mayor of Natesville (guest star Mary Birdsong) grants Virginia (Martha Plimpton) three wishes after she helps the town’s top official avoid a public scandal.

“We’re thrilled to have Justin be a part of Dirty Bass,” stated Kev Nish. “FM has always focused on unexpected collaborations and mashing up musical genres which keeps making music exciting. ‘Live My Life,’ is a song we think both FM and Bieber fans will enjoy together.”

“We’ve been performing the ‘Live My Life’ Party Rock remix with Redfoo on the Cherrytree Pop Alternative tour and the reaction has been met with hands in the air and hype energy,” added Prohgress. “We’re looking forward to the song on the radio and everybody partying wherever they’re listening.”

More on Far East Movement [Courtesy of Cherrytree/Interscope Records]:

FM is currently touring the world while working hard to finish up Dirty Bass. They started to develop the album’s sound while on the I Am Music tour with Lil Wayne last summer. They are finishing the album on the Canadian and European Cherrytree Pop Alternative tour with LMFAO while radio airwaves continue to play their worldwide smash singles “Like A G6” and “Rocketeer.”

Dirty Bass has a dynamic universal party sound that brings elements of booming trunk bass to the dancefloor. Far East Movement shaped and co-produced the sound with The Stereotypes and assistance from the above-mentioned RedOne along with other chart-topping producers Bangladesh, Dallas Austin and Cherry Cherry Boom Boom.
