The first book of The Hunger Games trilogy makes its way to the big screen on March 23, 2012 with Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth in starring roles. And along with the feature film, Lionsgate will be bringing fans of Suzanne Collins’ bestselling novels an adventure-based social game, The Hunger Games Adventures.

According to the press release issued by Lionsgate and Funtactix, The Hunger Games Adventures “enhances the movie experience through an unprecedented journey into the fantastical world” created by Collins.

Fans will be able to explore Panem and “complete missions that will take them to each of the Districts and the Capitol where they will interact with the familiar characters from the book.” Each completed mission allows the player to advance their own storyline within the world. Additionally, the map of Panem “will be rolled out in the game with a steady stream of chapter expansions as the game, and the world, reveals itself over time.”

“As a company that wants to align itself with the most beloved entertainment properties and passionate fans in the world, joining forces with Lionsgate on The Hunger Games was a very easy decision,” stated Sam Glassenberg, CEO of Funtactix. “Suzanne Collins’ amazing novel delivers an unbelievably detailed world that completely immerses the reader. Fans want to enter this world, interact with the characters and truly become a part of it. That is the magic that The Hunger Games Adventures will provide to the millions of people who love the book series and watch the movie.”

“What makes fans of The Hunger Games so amazing is the level of personal investment they have in the characters and the story,” said Lionsgate’s Joe Drake. “We chose Funtactix to create this game because they bring the level of authenticity and quality to their movie-based social games that is crucial to fans of The Hunger Games.”

The Hunger Games Plot:

The story takes place in the ruins of what was once North America, where every year the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

The Details:

“Starting Wednesday, February 1, fans can submit designs for the “POWER” challenge until February 29th at masscanvas.com. ALL entries will be featured on masscanvas.com. Last year, Volkswagen had one of the most memorable Super Bowl commercials featuring a little kid dressed as Darth Vader in a spot titled “The Force.” This year, the star of Volkswagen’s big Super Bowl ad is a dog named Bolt. In ‘The Dog Strikes Back,’ Bolt – an overweight couch potato – watches wistfully as a 2012 Volkswagen Beetle speeds down his street. Determined to chase it, Bolt begins training hard to get back in shape.

By the end of the commercial, Bolt is able to bolt out the doggie door and chase down the Beetle.

“This is a perfect opportunity for Volkswagen to celebrate with the fans that have made 2011 such a record-setting year for the company,” stated Tim Mahoney, Chief Product and Marketing Officer, Volkswagen of America, Inc. “This year’s commercial will build on Volkswagen’s ability to tell human stories simply while continuing to build on the brand’s momentum in the year ahead.”

However, because of the continued popularity of last year’s Star Wars-themed commercial, this year’s “The Dog Strikes Back” commercial also manages to incorporate Star Wars characters in a familiar setting at the end of ad.

Buried filmmaker Rodrigo Cortés’ stays with the thriller genre for his latest film, Red Lights, starring Cillian Murphy, Sigourney Weaver, Robert De Niro, and Elizabeth Olsen. The trailer’s just debuted online, and it looks pretty intriguing – and doesn’t seem to give away the entire film.

Millennium Entertainment picked Cortés’ new movie up following its debut at Sundance and hasn’t yet announced a release date.

The Plot: “A psychological thriller which explores the human brain’s perception mechanisms and the diffuse frontiers between belief and science, Red Lights starts out from the experiences of two rationalist scientists who dissect phenomena from the metapsychic world, and the clash of forces with a world-famous psychic they bring about.

The past and the present of each the protagonists contain still unrevealed shadows, setting in train a dark story of growing tension, full of unexpected twists and turns.”

Spike TV Gets Three New Reality Shows

Spike LogoBad tattoos, aspiring bounty hunters, and the hunt for 40 pound rats…yes, shows featuring all of these things are coming to your television, courtesy of Spike TV. The network’s acquired the three non-scripted series, although they haven’t yet announced when we’ll be able to laugh at other people’s bad choices in body art, be grossed out by huge rats on the loose in Louisiana, or go along for the ride with amateur bounty hunters tracking down real criminals.

“These three new non-scripted shows share a theme of larger-than-life characters in extreme situations where the high stakes are real,” states Sharon Levy, Executive Vice President, Original Series, Spike TV. “They are perfect complements to our upcoming launches of Big Easy Justice, American Digger, and Diamond Divers, which have similar distinctive characters.”

Full Bounty (10 Episodes)

In this unique reality competition series, 12 aspiring bounty hunters attempt to hunt down real criminals who are running from the law in an effort to win the actual bounty. Each competitor will be doing this for the first time in their lives with the aid of law enforcement supervisors. The contestant that tracks down and apprehends the most fugitives will win and advance while others will be eliminated in each episode. The overall winner of the show will win a position with a prominent bail bond and fugitive recovery agency. The stakes couldn’t be higher for each contestant as they risk their lives to rid the streets of potentially dangerous criminals, and live out the dream of becoming an actual bounty hunter. The series is created by Barry Poznick and John Stevens of Zoo Productions, an All3 media company.

Tattoo Nightmares (6 Episodes)

Real people with really bad tattoos seek the help of some of the best cover-up artists in the business to fix them. The tattoos range from hilarious to downright disturbing, with reenactments that will show how these people wound up with their awful, ugly and embarrassing ink. The contestants will go under the needle of top tattoo artists to see if they can work a miracle and cover someone else’s mistake. Tattoo Nightmares is created by Sally Ann Salsano (Jersey Shore) and 495 Productions.

Rat Bastards (6 Episodes)

An invasive species of giant swamp rats are ravaging America’s Southern wetlands and are especially dangerous to the tenuous ecological system of the Mississippi delta region. This non-scripted series follows a pack of industrious guys dubbed the “Cajun Commandoes” in Louisiana who hunt these elusive 40-pound menaces both to sell and to eat. These determined rat hunters compete over a limited four month window to earn big bucks by capturing these loathsome pests for a bounty. The series is co-created by Eli Holzman and Stephen Lambert of Studio Lambert and Royal Malloy, Duke Straub and Colt Straub of American Chainsaw.
