Relativity Readies ‘Act of Valor’ Super Bowl Ad Campaign

Relativity Media must have a lot of faith in Act of Valor as they’ve bought four 30 second commercial spots to air during Super Bowl XLVI. With the incredibly high prices of ads that run just prior to, during, and immediately after the Super Bowl (last year’s broadcast was watched by 111 million viewers), Relativity’s paying a pretty penny (the exact figure of which they didn’t disclose) for the commercials which they say will feature exclusive content.

Two spots will be broadcast during the pre-game, Relativity’s bought one commercial spot for the fourth quarter, and one spot is set to air during the post-game show. The studio also purchased spots during the 2010 Super Bowl for Limitless, which could have helped propel that thriller to the number one spot at the box office.

Act of Valor stars active-duty Navy SEALs in a fictionalized composite of actual events.

Announcing the ad buy, Terry Curtin, Theatrical Marketing President stated, “We are proud of this unique and original film that plays fantastically across broad audience segments. Not only is Act of Valor an incredibly entertaining action film, but it is a true testament to the heroism and sacrifice that makes America great. What better place to feature a spot for this movie than on the Super Bowl, which is one of our country’s biggest events.”

Act of Valor Poster

The Act of Valor Plot:

Act of Valor goes deep into the secret world of today’s most elite and highly trained group of warriors. When the rescue of a kidnapped CIA operative leads to the discovery of a deadly terrorist plot against the United States, a team of SEALs is dispatched on a worldwide manhunt. As the men of Bandito Platoon race to stop a coordinated attack that could kill and wound thousands of American civilians, they must balance their commitments to country, team, and their families back home.

Inspired by true events, the film combines stunning combat sequences, up-to-the-minute battlefield technology and heart-pumping emotion for the ultimate action adventure.

15 year old singer/songwriter Birdy already has a solid following in England and now she’s poised to take the States by storm. Her self-titled debut album drops in the United States in mid-March and features her own renditions of songs by Bon Iver (“Skinny Love”), The xx (“Shelter”), Fleet Foxes, The National, Phoenix, The Postal Service, and James Taylor (“Fire and Rain”). The album’s already a big seller in the U.K., reaching #13 on the charts and earning a Silver certification.

Recorded in LA and London, with Rich Costey (Muse, TV On The Radio), James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, The Klaxons), and Jim Abbiss (Adele, Arctic Monkeys) producing.

More on Birdy [Courtesy of Warner Bros Records]:

The daughter of a classically trained concert pianist mother, Birdy (born Jasmine van den Bogaerde in Lymington, England) began singing as a child and playing piano at age 7. At the age of 12, Birdy won a UK song-writing competition which led to her publishing deal with WMUK Chairman Christian Tattersfield and she subsequently obtained a recording deal with Atlantic UK on the back of her independent release of her version of the track “Skinny Love” on iTunes. Last year, after BBC’s Radio 1 added “Skinny Love” to its playlist, the song became Birdy’s first hit on the UK Singles Chart, peaking at No. 17. Both “Skinny Love” and “Shelter” have been featured in episodes of The Vampire Diaries.

Track Listing:

1901 (Phoenix)
Skinny Love (Bon Iver)

Keith Urban Records an Original Song for Act of Valor

Keith Urban’s doing something he’s never done before. The Grammy-winning singer will be contributing an original song written specifically for Relativity Media’s Act of Valor, an action thriller starring active-duty Navy SEALs. Urban and Monty Powell co-wrote the track, “For You,” which will be featured over the film’s end credits.

Act of Valor is set for release on February 24, 2012. The soundtrack will be released digitally on iTunes® and in stores on Tuesday, February 21st.

In the official announcement, Urban stated, “I loved the challenge of writing for a film. I’ve never done that before. After seeing Act Of Valor, my co-writer (Monty Powell) and I wanted to capture the essence of not only what these men and women do so extraordinarily, but how that relates to all of us. Valor shows us what they are willing to give their all for, which made me wonder, ‘what am I willing to give my life for?’ ‘For You’ is intended to allow the listener to define who that is for them.”

The Act of Valor Plot:

Produced and directed by former Baja 1000 champion Mike “Mouse” McCoy and former stuntman Scott Waugh, and written by Kurt Johnstad (300), Act of Valor takes audiences deep into the secretive world of the most elite, highly trained group of warriors in the modern world. When the rescue of a kidnapped CIA operative leads to the discovery of a deadly terrorist plot against the U.S., a team of SEALs is dispatched on a worldwide manhunt. As the valiant men of Bandito Platoon race to stop a coordinated attack that could kill and wound thousands of American civilians, they must balance their commitment to country, team and their families back home.

Inspired by true events, the film combines stunning combat sequences, up-to-the minute battlefield technology and heart-pumping emotion for the ultimate action adventure.
