‘Once Upon a Time’ Season 1 Episode 8 Preview: “Desperate Souls”

Once Upon a Time season one episode eight promises to be loaded with intrigue. And in case you haven’t caught on to the very entertaining Once Upon a Time, here’s the scoop on this twisted fairy tale drama.
The Plot:
Emma Swan’s life has been anything but a fairytale. A 28-year-old bail bonds person, she’s been taking care of herself since she was abandoned as a baby. But when Henry—the son she gave up 10 years ago—finds her, everything changes. Henry is desperate for his mom’s help and thinks that Emma is actually the long, lost daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming. Yes, the actual Snow White and Prince Charming.
Even stranger, Henry believes that Storybrooke, the sleepy New England town he calls home, is really part of a curse cast by the Evil Queen, freezing fairytale characters in the modern world with no memory of their former selves.
Of course, the seen-it-all Emma doesn’t believe a word, but when she gets to Storybrooke, she can’t help sensing that everything’s not quite what it seems. As Henry shows Emma around with the help of his fairytale book, the town, and its inhabitants, like Henry’s therapist Archie Hopper and the enigmatic Mr. Gold, seem just strange enough to set off her already suspicious nature. She becomes even more concerned for Henry when she meets his adopted mother, Regina, who he suspects is none other than the Evil Queen herself!
Storybrooke is a place where magic has been forgotten — but is still powerfully close — and happily ever after seems just out of reach. In order to understand where the fairytale world’s former inhabitants came from and what ultimately led to the Evil Queen’s wrath, you’ll need a glimpse into their previous lives. But it might just turn everything you’ve ever believed about these characters upside-down.
Meanwhile, the epic battle for the future of all worlds, modern and fairytale alike, is about to begin. For good to win, Emma will have to accept her destiny and fight like hell.
And season one episode eight, “Desperate Souls,” offers this synopsis:
“Regina and Mr. Gold play dirty politics and take opposite sides when Emma runs for a coveted Storybrooke public office against Sidney. Meanwhile, back in the fairytale world that was, Rumplestiltskin tries to track down the ultimate power source in order to help his son avert the horrors of a meaningless war.”

Lionsgate Moves Closer to Buying Summit

The Wall Street Journal reports Lionsgate is close to closing the deal to acquire Summit Entertainment. Summit’s best known as the studio behind the Twilight film series, the last of which opens in theaters on November 16, 2012.
WSJ says Lionsgate would wind up paying $400 million-ish for the studio’s equity in a deal which could be announced as soon as next week. The Hollywood Reporter says Summit executives Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger will likely remain involved with Summit following the merger. Sources told THR that Lionsgate is “interested in bringing in Friedman and Wachsberger, the two leaders who helped propel Summit from an indie that was losing money to one of the most profitable studios in Hollywood.”
Films scheduled for release thru Summit in 2012 include Breaking Dawn Part 2, Gone, Man on a Ledge, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Warm Bodies, The Cold Light of Day, Step Up 4, The Impossible, and Sinister.
Lionsgate’s launching the first film of the Hunger Games series (which they hope will be the new Twilight), One for the Money, The Cabin in the Woods, Safe, The Expendables 2, The Possession, and What to Expect When You’re Expecting.
