‘Lilyhammer’ with Steven Van Zandt Debuts in February 2012

Netflix will be debuting the original series Lilyhammer starring Steven Van Zandt (The Sopranos and E Street Band guitarist) on February 6, 2012 in USA, Canada, and Latin America. All of Lilyhammer‘s first season episodes will be available to Netflix members beginning on February 6th.

Commenting on the series, actor/executive producer Van Zandt said, “I am very careful with my choices and this project was so exciting to me because of the wonderful writing, the rich characters and the fascinating culture of Norway. Netflix is the perfect home for such a unique show.”

The Plot: Lilyhammer follows New York mobster Frank “The Fixer” Tagliano as he enters the federal witness protection program after ratting on his boss. A sports fan, Frank wants to make his new life in Lillehammer, the Norwegian town that hosted the 1994 Winter Olympics – or as he calls it “Lilyhammer.” Frank has visions of a paradise of “clean air, fresh white snow and gorgeous broads” far away from the temptations of the Big Apple and from mob hit men. The reality, of course, turns out to be spectacularly different.

Adele Tops UK Albums and Singles Charts

Adele

Adele’s 21 led the way with 3.8 million in sales (the biggest-ever selling album in a single year, according to BPI), earning her the top spot on both the UK’s bestselling albums and bestselling singles lists.

Tony Wadsworth, BPI Chairman, stated, “The spine-tingling performance by Adele at The BRIT Awards 2011 fired the starting gun on her incredible and well-deserved year of success. Her achievements are phenomenal – the biggest-selling album this century, the best seller of 2011 by miles, her debut album also made the year-end top five, not to mention her fantastic success overseas.

Led by Adele, Jessie J, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, and others, records by British artists in 2011 achieved both critical and commercial success both at home and around the world. But the challenge of sustaining this performance against a backdrop of chronic piracy means that Government action remains absolutely crucial for British artists and their labels.”

3. Doo-Wops & Hooligans – Bruno Mars

‘Smash’ Extended Sneak Peek Clip

American Idol Season five’s Katharine McPhee stars in the new NBC series Smash premiering on February 6th. The series provides a look behind the curtain into the inner workings of a Broadway musical, with McPhee playing an up-and-comer with big dreams.

And in this five minute video, the cast and producers talk about what viewers can expect from the hour-long drama:

The Plot:

Smash is a musical drama that celebrates the beauty and heartbreak of the Broadway theater as it follows a cross-section of dreamers and schemers who all have one common desire – to be a “smash.” The series centers on the process of creating a Broadway musical based on the life of Marilyn Monroe – written by the successful songwriting duo of Tom (Tony Award nominee Christian Borle, Legally Blonde: The Musical) and Julia (Emmy Award winner Debra Messing, Will & Grace).

Julia recently began the process of adopting a child with her husband Frank (Tony Award nominee Brian d’Arcy James, Shrek The Musical) of many years, but her focus is torn when she has the opportunity to write another Broadway hit.

A rivalry soon forms for the lead role between a youthful, inexperienced Midwestern beauty Karen (Katharine McPhee) – who is trying to find fame in the big city against all odds – and stage veteran Ivy Bell (Megan Hilty, 9 to 5: The Musical), who’s determined to leave the chorus line and finally get her big break. A tenacious producer Eileen (Oscar winner, Anjelica Huston, Prizzi’s Honor) discovers the “Marilyn” project and jumps on board with a brilliant director, Derek (Jack Davenport, Pirates of the Caribbean films) – whose talent is matched by his cunning and egocentric amorality. Jaime Cepero (Porgy and Bess) stars as Ellis, and Raza Jaffrey (Sex and the City 2) stars as Dev.

The series stemmed from an idea of executive producer and multiple Emmy and Oscar winner Steven Spielberg. The pilot was written by acclaimed playwright/screenwriter Theresa Rebeck. David Marshall Grant (Brothers and Sisters), Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (Oscar-winning Chicago, Hairspray) and Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey (United States of Tara, The Borgias) also serve as executive producers. Original songs are written by Tony and Grammy Award winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray, Catch Me If You Can), who serve as executive producers as well.
