Ty Burrell to Star in Roku’s ‘Tightrope!’ Comedy Series

Bryan Cranston and Ty Burrell
Bryan Cranston and Ty Burrell set up ‘Tightrope!’ comedy series (Photos Provided by Roku)

Emmy Award winner Ty Burrell (Modern Family) is on board to star in and executive produce Tightrope!, a new comedy just greenlit by Roku. Six-time Emmy winner Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) will executive produce the six-episode season and his production company, Moonshot Entertainment, is attached to produce along with Burrell’s Desert Whale Productions and Village Roadshow Television.

“I was inspired by the on-the-nose old drama series of the ’50s, to mess with the whole thing and create a new version of a lunatic comedy, never seen before in a TV series. Tightrope is a result of a fever dream and conceived over a bowl of chili at Chasens, savvy?” stated Bryan Cranston. And Burrell said, “I’m so thrilled to be working with Bryan, and Roku Originals, on this bonkers (in the best way) idea of a show.”

Additional executive producers include Adam Small, Fax Bahr, and Moonshot Entertainment’s James Degus. Small and Bahr will direct the series.

Roku offered this series description, inspired by the crime drama that aired on CBS in 1959 and 1960: “Through reimagined dialogue and a new lead actor in Ty Burrell, Tightrope! reshapes the drama of the vintage 1950s series into a slapstick comedy, where Burrell plays a lone wolf detective following cases city to city, while he searches for his long-lost love who got away.”

“Since Tightrope! is a comedy about a detective (and finding a Wallenda seemed off-brand) we’re thrilled to have Ty Burrell and Bryan Cranston join us at Roku for this imaginative, funny series,” said Charlie Collier, President, Roku Media. “What a joy to welcome Ty and Bryan to the Roku Originals lineup, along with the Moonshot and Desert Whale teams and our partners at Village Roadshow Television. We’re pleased to add Tightrope! to our growing originals slate to delight our audiences.”

Ghosts Series Description, Courtesy of CBS:

Ghosts is a single-camera comedy about Samantha (Sam) and Jay, a cheerful freelance journalist and up-and-coming chef from the city, respectively, who threw both caution and money to the wind when they decided to convert Woodstone Mansion, which Sam in inherited, into a bed & breakfast – only to find it was inhabited by the many spirits of deceased residents who now call it home.

The departed souls are a close-knit, eclectic group that includes a saucy Prohibition-era lounge singer (Danielle Pinnock); a pompous 18th-century militiaman (Brandon Scott Jones); an overly upbeat ‘80s scout troop leader (Richie Moriarty); a cod-obsessed Viking explorer from 1009 (Devon Chandler Long); a ‘60s hippie fond of hallucinogens (Sheila Carrasco); a slick ‘90s finance bro (Asher Grodman); a sarcastic and witty native from the 16th-century (Román Zaragoza); and a society woman and wife of a 19th-century robber baron who is Sam’s ancestor (Rebecca Wisocky), to name a few.

The opening of the B&B has been a source of intrigue, anxiety and curiosity among the spirits, but they will gladly put up with the commotion as long as they can continue to interact with a living inhabitant.
