Madonna Still Hates Hydrangeas

Madonna on the set of W.E.

What have hydrangeas ever done to Madonna? Nothing, but she still hates them – and that’s okay. We’re all allowed to choose our favorite flowers and to have flowers we’re just not very fond of. But Madonna’s hatred of hydrangeas put her in an embarrassing situation when a fan/reporter handed her the flowers at the start of the 2011 Venice Film Festival press conference for her new film, W.E..

Turning away from the mic, Madonna rolled her eyes and said, “I absolutely loathe hydrangeas. He obviously doesn’t know that.”

The comments were, of course, caught on video (this was a press conference, after all) and made their way to Youtube:

In response to the uproar over her comments, Madonna created her own sepia-toned, silent video in which she cradles the flowers before letting her true feelings be known.

The psychological thriller Beneath the Darkness starring Dennis Quaid will have a theatrical release this November, so says Image Entertainment, Inc. Image just announced they’ve acquired the North American rights to the dramatic film and will be launching it in theaters prior to its release on VOD and PPV.

Beneath the Darkness was directed by Martin Guigui from a script by Bruce Wilkinson. The film also features Tony Oller (Nickelodeon’s Gigantic) and Aimee Teegarden (Friday Night Lights).

Image Entertainment’s Chief Acquisitions Officer Bill Bromiley made the announced of the pick up at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival. “The role that Dennis Quaid plays in Beneath the Darkness is such a departure from his other roles,” stated Bromiley. “As good a hero as he has always made, he is an amazingly terrifying villain in this film. It’s certain to have audiences on the edge of their seats. Image is pleased to add this to our release schedule this year.”

The Story:

Ely (Dennis Quaid) is a well-respected mortician in a town where he was once a heralded high school football star. Among the kids, however, he is legendary for a more sinister reason — rumors that his house is haunted. The truth is, the town leader murdered his first wife and her lover and now lives in the house with his wife’s embalmed corpse! This pillar of the community is actually a flesh-and-blood monster who buries his victims alive; a sociopath who befriends adults and police while openly flaunting his murderous intentions to the youths. He will kill anyone who threatens to expose him or his now seemingly perfect marriage.

Candace Bushnell's 'The Carrie Diaries' - Publisher: Balzer + Bray
Sex and the City is coming back to the small screen but this time without Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, or Cynthia Nixon. Instead, Carrie will be played by a younger actress in a prequel to the popular SATC series which aired from 1998 to 2004 on HBO.

CW is moving ahead with a new series based on The Carrie Diaries, SATC author Candace Bushnell’s young adult series that explores Carrie’s adventures before we were introduced to the character and her glamorous New York life. EW says the series should debut in the fall of 2012.

Gossip Girl‘s producing team of Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will work on the SATC prequel. Sex and the City writer/producer/story editor Amy B Harris will help adapt Bushnell’s YA books and will serve as showrunner.

From Candace Bushnell’s Official Website:

The Carrie Diaries is the coming-of-age story of one of the most iconic characters of our generation.

Before Sex and the City, Carrie Bradshaw was a small town girl who knew she wanted more. She’s ready for real life to start, but first she must navigate her senior year of high school. Up until now, Carrie and her friends have been inseparable. Then Sebastian Kydd comes into the picture, and a friend’s betrayal makes her question everything.

With an unforgettable cast of characters, The Carrie Diaries is the story of how a regular girl learns to think for herself, and evolves into a sharp, insightful writer. Readers will learn about her family background, how she found her writing voice, and the indelible impression her early friendships and relationships left on her. Through adventures both audacious and poignant, we’ll see what brings Carrie to her beloved New York City, where her new life begins.”
