Roadside Attractions has picked up the US distribution rights to Answers to Nothing starring Dane Cook. Cook’s best known for comedy, but with Answers to Nothing, he’s stretching his muscles and tackling a dramatic role.

Also starring in Answers to Nothing are Elizabeth Mitchell, Julie Benz, Barbara Hershey, Zach Gilford, Kali Hawk, Erik Palladino, Mark Kelly, Aja Volkman, and Miranda Bailey.

Roadside Attractions is planning a December 2, 2011 release.

“This is the most personal film I have ever made, so getting it in the hands of a company like Roadside is a dream come true. They have an amazing track record with thought-provoking independent movies and I am thrilled that they believe in our film as much as we do,” said writer/director Matthew Leutwyler.

“It’s great to see Dane in an unexpected dramatic role, and he hits it out of the park in this strong film,” said Howard Cohen, Co-President of Roadside Attractions.

The Plot: Answers to Nothing is a gritty drama of interweaving stories set in Los Angeles against the backdrop of a child kidnapping case.

Filmmaker David Lynch Adds Recording Artist to His Resume

David Lynch Crazy clown Time

Oscar nominated writer/director David Lynch, the filmmaker behind Blue Velvet, Mulholland Dr, and The Elephant Man, will be releasing a solo album titled Crazy Clown Time. Set for a November 8, 2011 release, Crazy Clown Time will feature 14 original songs written, produced, and performed by Lynch.

Crazy Clown Time was recorded over several months at Lynch’s Asymmetrical Studio. On the recording process, Lynch said it was full of ‘happy creative accidents’. “There were so many accidents; this album should be in the hospital,” joked Lynch.

“The love of experimenting with sound and music is what’s driving this boat,” explained the self-taught ‘non-musician’. “All of the songs on the album started as a jam. The jams eventually found a form and lyrics appeared.”

Lynch describes his songs as “modern blues” and believes the lyrics and rhythms will resonate with fans of his films.

Crazy Clown Time Track List

1. “Pinky’s Dream”
2. “Good Day Today”
3. “So Glad”
4. “Noah’s Ark”
5. “Football Game”
6. “I Know”
7. “Strange and Unproductive Thinking”
8. “The Night Bell With Lightning”
9. “Stone’s Gone Up”
10. “Crazy Clown Time”
11. “These Are My Friends”
12. “Speed Roadster”
13. “Movin’ On”
14. “She Rise Up”

From the press release:

“Lynch’s passion for music has always figured prominently into his filmmaking, starting with his feature debut Eraserhead (1977) – which included “In Heaven,” a song he wrote with Peter Ivers – and continuing through to his most recent work, Inland Empire (2006) – which featured several tracks penned by Lynch.

Four years ago, motivated by his growing musical ambitions, Lynch became the eponymous creator of the David Lynch Music Company. Then, in 2010, he transformed his website into an immersive digital archive the offers material released by David Lynch Music Company since its launch, plus unreleased singles, experiments and instrumentals created by Lynch and collaborators throughout the years.”

First ‘The Woman in Black’ Trailer Arrives

Daniel Radcliffe stars in The Woman in Black, a creepy horror story based on the novel by Susan Hill. The trailer does a great job of selling the film. In fact, I’d go as far as to say it’s one of the most effective horror movie trailers of the past few years. CBS Films will release The Woman in Black on February 3, 2012.

The Plot: Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe), a widowed lawyer whose grief has put his career in jeopardy, is sent to a remote village to sort out the affairs of a recently deceased eccentric. But upon his arrival, it soon becomes clear that everyone in the town is keeping a deadly secret. Although the townspeople try to keep Kipps from learning their tragic history, he soon discovers that the house belonging to his client is haunted by the ghost of a woman who is determined to find someone and something she lost… and no one, not even the children, are safe from her vengeance.

‘The Descendants’ with George Clooney to Close NY Film Festival

The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced that The Descendants has been chosen as the Closing Night Gala film at the 49th New York Film Festival (September 30 – October 16, 2011). Directed by Alexander Payne, The Descendants will screen at Alice Tully Hall on October 16th, marking the third time a film from Payne has been on the festival’s line-up (About Schmidt and Sideways were part of previous NYFFs).

“In many of the films in this year’s Festival, characters pass from recognition of a problem or situation to actual resistance,” says Richard Peña, Selection Committee Chair & Program Director of the Film Society of Lincoln Center, “This confrontational attitude is perhaps a sign of our increasingly polarized times.”

Synopsis of The Descendants:

Based on the bestselling novel by Kaui Hart Hemmings, The Descendants stars George Clooney as ‘Matt King’, the heir of a prominent Hawaiian land-owning family whose life is turned upside-down when his wife is critically injured in a boating accident. Accustomed to being “the back-up parent,” King suddenly finds himself center stage in the lives of his two young daughters (excellent newcomers Shailene Woodley and Amara Miller), while at the same time being forced to decide the fate of a vast plot of unspoiled land his family has owned since the 1860s.

Fox made it official today, confirming that the team of Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez will be back as judges for American Idol Season 11. The 11th season will kick off on Sunday, January 22, 2012 immediately following the NFC Championship Game on Fox.

“Having both Jennifer and Steven return to Idol in 2012 alongside Randy is such a positive reflection on what was a wonderful and hugely successful season last year, and everyone is delighted,” said Simon Fuller, Creator and Executive Producer, American Idol.

“I am very pleased to have our panel of judges back for the 11th season of American Idol,” said executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz. “Their chemistry and ability to select amazing talent made last season one of our most successful yet, and we look forward to going on another exciting ride.”

“From the very first day of auditions, we knew we had something special in our new judges panel, and we’re so happy that America felt that way too,” said Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “Together with Ryan – who is fantastic day in and day out – they built an incredible connection with both the contestants and our viewers, and I’m absolutely thrilled to welcome them all back to Idol for another season.”

Check Out Lady Gaga’s “You and I” Music Video

Lady Gaga’s latest music video, “You and I,” leaked two days early and because the cat was already out of the bag, Gaga went ahead and officially bumped the video’s release date up from August 18th. Why hold off a couple of days?

In the video, Lady Gaga is alternately a mermaid, a piano player in the middle of a Nebraska cornfield as well as the James Dean-ish figure sitting on top of that piano, and a mechanical creature. And there’s a love story, lots of sexy dancing, and bizarre visuals throughout. It’s Lady Gaga at her most unique.

First Look: ‘Hysteria’ Movie Trailer

This one’s purely for adult audiences… Hysteria, which will debut at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival, tells the hysterical true story of the invention of the vibrator.

The Plot: The time is the 1880s, at the very peak of Victorian prudishness but the dawn of the electrical age. In London, the brilliant and devoted young doctor Mortimer Granville (Hugh Dancy) has just lost his hospital position for believing in “germ theory” and needs a new job. He finds it with Dr. Dalrymple (Jonathan Pryce), who specializes in treating the alarming epidemic of women suffering from “hysteria” – the flustering symptoms include weeping, melancholia, and erratic, aggressive emotions unbefitting a proper lady.

Dalrymple’s “manual massage” cure is shockingly effective, but Mortimer has to fight off both numb hands and the fiery disapproval of Dalrymple’s vexing daughter, Charlotte (Maggie Gyllenhaal), a champion of poor women’s rights, as he begins to build his fledgling practice.

Then, just when he seems to be losing his physician’s touch, Mortimer’s forward-thinking friend Edmund (Rupert Everett) unveils the plans for his new electric-powered feather duster, which gives the doctor a compelling idea… the result will revitalize his medical practice, thrill his patients and upend his heart, as Charlotte begins to teach him more about how women really work – and what they actually want – than he ever bargained for.

The result is a witty, winning comedy that not only reveals how the vibrator became one of the first electrical appliances in history to earn a patent – but sends sparks flying between a cautious man and a liberated woman brought together by the wonders of friction.

Gerard Butler is Featured on the ‘Machine Gun Preacher’ Poster

Gerard Butler looks fierce – but not in a 300-ish way – on the first poster released for Machine Gun Preacher. The poster shows him protecting a child, a pretty straightforward image that gives potential ticket buyers a good idea of what the film’s all about. But if you need to know more, here’s the synopsis:

“When ex-biker-gang member Sam Childers (Butler) makes the life-changing decision to go to East Africa to help repair homes destroyed by civil war, he is outraged by the unspeakable horrors faced by the region’s vulnerable populace, especially the children. Ignoring the warnings of more experienced aide workers, Sam breaks ground for an orphanage where it’s most needed—in the middle of territory controlled by the brutal Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), a renegade militia that forces youngsters to become soldiers before they even reach their teens.

But for Sam, it is not enough to shelter the LRA’s intended victims. Determined to save as many as possible, he leads armed missions deep into enemy territory to retrieve kidnapped children, restoring peace to their lives—and eventually his own.”

Jeff Bridges “What a Little Bit of Love Can Do” Music Video

Oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart) has been on the road, but not on a publicity tour for another movie. Instead, he’s been out promoting another project he’s passionate about: his new album, Jeff Bridges. Visiting The Today Show show, Jeff Bridges sang “What a Little Bit of Love Can Do,” one of the tunes off his new album, which hit stores today.

Bridges is most definitely Country, and this song sounds like it would have easily fit on the soundtrack to Crazy Heart.

New ‘Immortals’ Trailer is Action-Packed

The new Immortals trailer starring Henry Cavill, Luke Evans, Freida Pinto, Kellan Lutz, and Mickey Rourke has a definite 300 vibe going on – and lots of bloody deaths. Cavill, the new Superman, shows he can handle intense action scenes in Relativity Media’s third trailer in support of the film’s November 11, 2011 release.

The Plot:

Eons after the Gods won their mythic struggle against the Titans, a new evil threatens the land. Mad with power, King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) has declared war against humanity. Amassing a bloodthirsty army of soldiers disfigured by his own hand, Hyperion has scorched Greece in search of the legendary Epirus Bow, a weapon of unimaginable power forged in the heavens by Ares.

Only he who possesses this bow can unleash the Titans, who have been imprisoned deep within the walls of Mount Tartaros since the dawn of time and thirst for revenge. In the king’s hands, the bow would rain destruction upon mankind and annihilate the Gods. But ancient law dictates the Gods must not intervene in man’s conflict. They remain powerless to stop Hyperion…until a peasant named Theseus (Henry Cavill) comes forth as their only hope.

Secretly chosen by Zeus, Theseus must save his people from Hyperion and his hordes. Rallying a band of fellow outsiders — including visionary priestess Phaedra (Freida Pinto) and cunning slave Stavros (Stephen Dorff) — one hero will lead the uprising, or watch his homeland fall into ruin and his Gods vanish into legend.
