CBS’s reimaginging of the classic dramatic series Hawaii Five-O will kick off season one September 20, 2010. Alex O’Loughlin takes on the starring role as Detective Steve McGarrett in the one-hour series airing on CBS.

The season one cast also includes Scott Caan as Danny “Danno” Williams, Daniel Dae Kim as Chin Ho Kell, Grace Park as Kono Kalakaua, and Taryn Manning as Mary Ann McGarrett.

The Synopsis: Hawaii Five-O is a contemporary take on the classic series about a new elite federalized task force whose mission is to wipe out the crime that washes up on the Islands’ sun-drenched beaches.  Detective Steve McGarrett, a decorated Naval officer-turned-cop, returns to Oahu to investigate his father’s murder and stays after Hawaii’s Governor persuades him to head up the new team: his rules, her backing, no red tape and full blanket authority to hunt down the biggest “game” in town.

Joining McGarrett is Detective Danny “Danno” Williams, a newly relocated ex-New Jersey cop – a working man in paradise who prefers skyscrapers to the coastline – but who’s committed to keeping the Islands safe for his 8-year-old daughter; and Chin Ho Kelly, an ex-Honolulu Police Detective, and former protégé of McGarrett’s father, wrongly accused of corruption and relegated to a federal security patrol.

Chin’s cousin, Kono Kalakaua, is a beautiful and fearless native, fresh out of the academy and eager to establish herself among the department’s elite. McGarrett, repairing his relationship with his estranged sister Mary Ann, vows to bring closure to their father’s case, while the state’s brash new FIVE-0 unit, who may spar and jest among themselves, is determined to eliminate the seedy elements from the 50th state.

The Plot: A fly-on-the-wall “docu-reality” parody about modern American office life, The Office delves into the lives of the workers at Dunder Mifflin paper supply company in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Regional manager Michael Scott (Steve Carell thru season 7) is a single, middle-aged man who is the boastful tour guide for the documentary.

With unshaken enthusiasm, Michael believes he is the office funnyman, a fountain of business wisdom, and his employees’ cool friend. He has no clue that his employees tolerate his inappropriate behavior only because he signs their paychecks. Painstakingly trying to be liked and to look cool, Michael comes off alternately absurd and pathetic. His prize possession is his “World’s Greatest Boss” mug — which he had to buy for himself.

Pam Beesly (Jenna Fischer) is a former office receptionist and is now a saleswoman.  Pam’s office romance with Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) quickly evolved into marriage followed by the birth of their daughter.

Jim shares his working space with Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson), the arrogant assistant to the regional manager. Dwight is intensely irritating to normal people while Jim spends a lot of time finding new, interesting ways to drive Dwight crazy.  Ryan Howard (B.J. Novak) is the young, smart, former temp who’s fall from grace as a Dunder Mifflin executive quickly landed him back at the bottom of the food chain in Scranton.

As Liz, Miranda, and Natalie each take a turn at housing Ned, their brother’s unfailing commitment to honesty creates more than a few messes in their comfortable routines. But as each of their lives begins to unravel, Ned’s family comes to realize that maybe, in believing and trusting the people around him; Ned isn’t such an idiot after all.

‘A Bird of the Air’ to Hit Theaters in 2011

Joe Coomer’s novel The Loop serves as the inspiration for A Bird of the Air, a comedy/drama/romance starring Rachel Nichols (Conan the Barbarian) and Jackson Hurst, directed by first time feature film helmer Margaret Whitton. Roger Towne adapted Coomer’s novel for the big screen.

Paladin will be releasing the film in the fall of 2011, so says the company’s president, Mark Urman.

Commenting on the pickup, Urman said, “This is a truly enchanting film that took me completely by surprise. Not only does it introduce two enormously appealing stars who are relative newcomers to the independent film scene, but it also establishes Margaret, an actor whose work I have long admired, as a highly-skilled director with a point of view all her own.”

Coomer’s book “tells the story of Lyman (Hurst), a lovable loner whose job patrolling highways at night, aiding stranded motorists and injured animals, keeps him at a distance from other people. When an extremely rare and highly talkative parrot flies into his home one day, Lyman needs to figure out where the bird comes from and tries to decode its often cryptic and highly literary utterances. Enlisting the aid of Fiona (Nichols), a sexy librarian who is as interested in Lyman’s secrets as she is in the bird’s, the pair set off on a search that doesn’t always lead them where they think they’re going, but which gradually leads them to one another.”

Executive producer Warren Spector stated, “We’re looking forward to working with Mark Urman and his team at Paladin. Mark’s credentials in the world of specialty distribution are second to none, and we’re delighted that he brings such expertise and passion to the distribution of this very special film.”

“Mark Urman has an incredibly deep understanding of all aspects of filmmaking, and his wonderful taste and instincts — coupled with boundless energy — should make for a very exciting theatrical life for A Bird of the Air,” added producer Steven Tabakin. “We couldn’t be in more capable hands.”

The A Bird of the Air cast also includes Judith Ivey, Linda Emond, Buck Henry, Phyllis Somerville, and Anjanette Comer.

Cartoon Network, Joel Silver, and Dark Castle Entertainment will be bringing the network’s super popular Ben 10 show to life as a live-action movie. Here’s the scoop from Cartoon Network:

The movie, which will be produced by Silver, along with Dark Castle Entertainment co-presidents Steve Richards and Andrew Rona, gives Silver and his production company the exclusive rights to develop and package the property and advance it towards a theatrical production.

“I cannot think of anyone better suited than Joel Silver to develop a theatrical action-driven adventure based on our BEN 10 franchise,” said president and COO of Turner Broadcasting System Inc.’s Animation, Young Adults and Kids Media division (AYAKM) Stuart Snyder. “As a producer of mega-hit movie franchises like, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon and The Matrix, to the successes of Sherlock Holmes and The Book of Eli, Joel has both the passion and movie-making know-how to turn Ben 10 into a spectacular theatrical experience for our fans.”

“In Ben 10, Cartoon Network has built a property that is loved across the world,” said Silver. “It has a fun premise with a great leading character that lends itself to the big screen, and I am looking forward to seeing how we can take it to the next level.”

Created by Man of Action (Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Duncan Rouleau, Steve Seagle), the series about a boy (Ben Tennyson) who discovers a strange wristwatch that allows him to transform into 10 different aliens with superpowers premiered on Cartoon Network in January 2006 and quickly became a global hit, reaching more than 165 countries. With these powers, Ben can play the part of a superhero, righting wrongs, saving the world and getting into some old-fashioned kid-style trouble.

A #1 hit for the network on Saturday mornings, the Ben 10 saga continued to expand as a series, first with Ben 10: Alien Force in April 2008 and then with Ben 10: Ultimate Alien in spring 2010, now airing on Friday nights.

NBC’s one-hour drama Parenthood returns for season two on September 14, 2010. The popular series stars Lauren Graham and Peter Krause, and is based on the 1989 film of the same name.

The Plot: Sarah Braverman (Lauren Graham) is a financially-strapped single mother trying to raise two teenaged kids, the bright but rebellious Amber (Mae Whitman) and sullen and sensitive Drew (Miles Heizer).

On the home front, Sarah and her kids live with Sarah’s larger-than-life, headstrong father, Zeek (Craig T. Nelson), and pillar-of-strength mother Camille, (Bonnie Bedelia), who are continuously dealing with their own marital issues.

Meanwhile, Sarah’s sister and complete antithesis, Julia (Erika Christensen) is a successful corporate attorney trying to juggle work and motherhood alongside her loving but increasingly restless stay-at-home husband, Joel (Sam Jaeger).

Commitment-phobe Crosby (Dax Shepard), Sarah’s younger brother, is helping raise a five-year-old son he had out-of-wedlock with former flame Jasmine (Joy Bryant).

However, it’s Adam (Peter Krause), the oldest Braverman sibling, who has had to relinquish his expectations about what constitutes a “normal” family as he, his quietly forceful wife Kristina (Monica Potter) and independent-minded teenage daughter, Haddie (Sarah Ramos), struggle to cope with their eccentric son and Haddie’s little brother, Max (Max Burkholder), who has Asperger’s Syndrome.

Although each sibling and family has its own share of life and everyday challenges to grapple with, they still manage to be there for each other in their hours of need.
