‘Heels’ Season 2 Episode 3 Recap: “Discord”

Heels Season 2 Episode 3 Recap

Starz’s Heels season two episode three is titled “Discord,” but a more appropriate title would be “Redemption.” Jack sees the light and realizes he’s his own worst enemy, while Ace has a creepy nightmare visit from his dead dad that sets him back on the path to Duffy.

We kick off episode three with a brief flashback to a young Jack getting a whipping from his mom for snatching a piece of cake. Apparently, the incident left a lasting impression and was just one example of the abuse he suffered at her hands.

Flash-forward to current events, and Jack (Stephen Amell) pays a brief visit to his mom’s house to grab her phone and to announce that he’s concluded that if he and Ace kill each other, it’ll be all her fault.

And speaking of Ace (Alexander Ludwig), it’s a good thing he doesn’t roll around while he’s sleeping. He spent the night on a ledge, and his situation looks bleak. Fortunately, two women just happen to be climbing right where he fell and help him out. Ace reacts by misreading the situation and hitting on his rescuers. They turn him down as he’s not their preferred gender, something oblivious Ace didn’t pick up on.

Ace takes out his frustration by going full-blown rock star on his hotel room, trashing it. A pretty dumb move since the damage will cost him money that he doesn’t have.

Diego Cottonmouth (Robby Ramos) launches a podcast with Wild Bill (Chris Bauer), and their wide-ranging first episode covers the events at the fair. Bill claims he was poisoned and that’s why he pooped his pants. He also offers a colorful description of his subsequent encounter with Charlie Gully after losing control of his rectum.

“It was as if fate herself proclaimed here is a man you’d like to eat sh*t presenting his mouth as a fortuitous receptacle. Boom!” says Bill.

Back at the DWL, Debbie (Marcia DeBonis) does a happy dance when she learns that Jack’s out of town and left Willie (Mary McCormack) in charge. Willie doesn’t have time to celebrate; she’s got to come up with a script for the next show. Willie and Crystal (Kelli Berglund) bounce ideas off each other and come up with Crystal needing to get the crowd on her side. She wasn’t given the opportunity, she took it.

Dad (Scott Hunter) will play the bad guy in this story, and Crystal suggests she should kick his butt.

The guys, including Bill, join them in the office and celebrate Willie being in charge. Everyone’s talking and joking around, but Willie wants to get down to business. Unfortunately, the script has to wait as Eddie (Joel Murray) and Annie Earl (Eliza Coyle) arrive with a huge surprise. They’ve purchased a big screen for the arena so the DWL can show backstage videos or whatever.

Meanwhile, Jack’s out trying to find Ace while Rooster (Allen Maldonado) rings up Gully after listening to Diego and Wild Bill’s podcast. Willie and Bill collaborate on the script, bouncing ideas off each other as they figure out the DWL and Crystal’s next move.

Jack tracks Ace down at the motel using their mom’s find my phone app. Ace had no idea that existed or that his mom was tracking him. Jack reminds him he’s on the family plan. Ace isn’t receptive to anything Jack wants to talk about, responding with expletives indicating he wants nothing to do with his brother or the DWL.

Jack apologizes for his actions and how they’ve affected his brother and his wife. Ace makes him work hard before agreeing to listen, and Jack comes clean. He admits he’d been relying on Ace’s talent and persona and reacted badly to Jack being poached by Gully. Jack confesses he was gutted that his brother would leave for greener pastures, and in response, he humiliated Ace. He deliberately pushed Ace’s buttons, lying to himself that it was for his own good.

Jack also reluctantly admits that their father’s suicide messed him up. He pushed aside his feelings because he couldn’t deal with them.

“I am truly sorry for the way that I treated you. Please come home,” says Jack, adding, “Give me a chance to be a great brother to you.”

Ace doesn’t think he deserves a great big brother and claims he isn’t a good guy. Jack believes he’s wrong, but Ace is adamant that he set everything bad that happened in motion, mainly because he’s a selfish prick who can’t make new friends and doesn’t know what to do with his life now that sports are in his past.

Ace isn’t willing to return home. Instead, he’s heading west. He admits the only thing keeping him going is that what comes after death might be worse.

Jack apologizes again, and Ace forgives him. They shake, and Jack hands Ace some cash before taking off. They part on good terms.

Back at the DWL, practice is interrupted to watch a shocking video of an NFL linebacker assaulting his wife. The reporter notes that this is part of a disturbing trend of athletes engaging in domestic violence. Even the President’s spokesperson is condemning the wave of violence.

This changes everything. Now isn’t the right time to have Crystal in the ring being hit by men.

Crystal and Bobby (Trey Tucker) have a private chat and he confesses he’s confused about their relationship. They kiss, and this time there’s no misinterpreting Crystal’s feelings.

Jack makes it back, and Willie suggests they need a women’s division now. Having Crystal in the ring taking on the guys isn’t sustainable for business. Jack’s not in the mood to discuss Crystal; he’s rethinking everything.

Willie rushes off, justifiably upset that she’s not being heard.

Jack hears someone in the ring and discovers Gully (Mike O’Malley), Rooster, and Gully’s cousin, Paul, have shown up uninvited and unwelcome. Gully proposes a cross-promotion with his guys taking on the DWL. Jack immediately turns it down without considering the offer, but Gully encourages him to reconsider. When Jack won’t, Gully introduces him to his attorney. Jack’s being sued for $3 million for assault and battery.

However, if Jack helps Gully restore his honor in the ring with a cross-promotion, then he’ll drop the lawsuit. Jack should have thought of the consequences of punching Gully before he hit him.

Back at the motel, Ace has a nightmare in which Crystal, Bobby, and his dead dad (complete with a goofy-looking torn-up, bloody face from the bullet) torture him and demand that he not give up on wrestling.

The episode ends with Jack apologizing to Staci that he hasn’t been the best husband and that his family has been playing second fiddle to the DWL. She apologizes for keeping their son away from him. They’ve missed each other, and Jack’s happy they’re back together at home.

Morning arrives, and the family breakfast’s interrupted by Ace knocking at the door. He’s back, and their mom doesn’t want him home, so he asks to stay at Jack’s. Jack and Staci immediately agree. Awww, one big happy, dysfunctional family again.

‘Outlander’ Season 7 Episode 8 Recap: “Turning Points”

Outlander Season 7 Episode 8

Starz’s Outlander season seven episode eight – the mid-season finale – opens with Jamie (Sam Heughan) still unconscious on the battlefield. A mother and her son are stealing items off the dead when Jamie coughs. Claire (Caitriona Balfe) arrives just in time to stop the thieves from slitting Jamie’s throat, holding them off by grabbing a sword and threatening to kill them if they don’t back off.

Don’t mess with badass Claire in full protective mode!

Claire berates her husband for getting injured in hand-to-hand combat. He’s a sniper and not supposed to be in the thick of the fight, and Claire calls him a “vainglorious, pig-headed, grandstanding Scot.” The only word Jamie takes exception to is grandstanding.

Claire admits he scared her, and Jamie thanks the love of his life for saving him again.

Claire tends to Jamie’s wounds back at camp, informing him that Ian’s returned safe and sound. The Brits are declaring victory even though they lost twice as many soldiers.

The casualties are affecting Dr. Denzell Hunter (Joey Phillips), and he asks Claire how she handles losing so many patients who succumb to their injuries. She suggests he needs to think of those he saved instead of those they lost.

Denzell asks if all this death is worth it, and Claire assures him it will be.

Two weeks pass, and Jamie’s wounded hand is healing well. Claire confesses to Ian that she had hoped Jamie would stay away from the next battle – the one that will draw the French into the war – but now she wonders if he’s meant to be there. Ian’s learned that the British want to divide the colonial forces, but Major General Burgoyne won’t wait long before attacking, even if it means he fights without reinforcements.

Outlander Season 7 Episode 8 Ian and Rachel

Ian jumps at the chance to deliver goose grease to Rachel (Izzy Meikle-Small) from Claire. (Denzell needs it for a constipated patient.) They flirt and Ian pulls Rachel in for a kiss. She slaps him in response, but minutes later, they touch hands and almost kiss again. Rachel says they shouldn’t, and they discuss Rachel’s feelings, with Ian certain that she loves him. Rachel reminds him she didn’t say that.

Ian leaves before they do something they might regret.

Claire has an encounter with an infamous figure from history. Major General Benedict Arnold (Rod Hallett) offers a trade for medical supplies, and they strike a deal. (This is before he introduces himself.) It’s not until Jamie joins them and answers a question with a quote from Robert Browning that Claire learns who she’s speaking to.

When Arnold walks off, Claire explains that he’ll become disillusioned and will side with the British. “His name will become synonymous with being the traitor,” explains Claire. “200 years from now if someone betrays you, you’ll call them a Benedict Arnold. It’s all he’ll ever be remembered for.”

Jamie’s stunned, but Claire believes they can’t do anything about it. He’ll betray the colonies, and America will win. They can’t risk changing anything.

Daniel Morgan (Barry O’Connor) addresses the men around a campfire. He delivers news from Major General Gates that John Brown has retaken Sugarloaf, freed over 100 of their men, and captured a dozen British officers.

Daniel strips off his shirt and the scars on his back rival Jamie’s. They were put there by the British Army after he fought back when an officer struck him. He earned 499 lashes for standing up for himself.

Jamie believes Daniel senses in him a kindred spirit, but he never told him about his own lashes.

The second Battle of Saratoga commences, and Jamie does his best to stay hidden while shooting at the enemy. General Arnold spots Brigadier General Simon Fraser (Angus Macfadyen) riding among his men, and Jamie’s stunned to see his cousin across the field. Although Daniel Morgan admires Fraser, he agrees with Arnold that Simon needs to die.

General Arnold orders Jamie to shoot Brigadier General Simon Fraser, and Jamie takes aim. He fires and deliberately misses, shooting the tricorn hat off of his son, William Ransom, instead. (Jamie was unaware it was William.) Another soldier shoots Simon Fraser, and William rushes to his side.

With Simon being led off the battlefield, General Arnold orders the men to pursue the retreating Brits. Daniel Morgan tells his men to follow Arnold, and Jamie leads them in an assault on the fort. Jamie’s eyes constantly scan the battle, searching for William.

Ian is among those fighting and takes down numerous men as the Continental Army wins this second battle. Benedict Arnold is shot in the leg but survives, and Claire tends to his wounds. He’s upset he didn’t die in the battle so that he’ll be remembered. Gates always leaves him out of stories recounting the battles. “It’s a conscious admission of merit, of fact,” says Arnold, adding, “It robs me of honor and promotion.”

Arnold hates Gates, and Claire assures him he’s not wrong to feel this way. She also tells him that he’ll be remembered.

The day finally ends, and Claire and Jamie have a chance to talk. Jamie reveals he saw William and nearly shot him. He believes William is okay, or at least he was the last he saw him. Jamie wants to sleep until the British surrender is finalized. He’s exhausted, but he’s not going to be allowed to rest. A British soldier enters the Frasers’ tent under the flag of truce with a message that Simon Fraser wants to see him before he dies.

Jamie and Claire agree to visit Jamie’s kin.

Simon’s on death’s door when they arrive but still happy to see his kin. They hold hands and even joke about Simon’s condition before discussing the last time they saw each other. Jamie’s sorry Simon must die away from Scotland, and Simon claims he’s content to die now that he has kin by his side.

Claire steps outside and encounters William. They speak about war, and Claire’s sorry for his loss. She describes war as a terrible business, and William has seen enough to agree.

Simon passes away and after Jamie leaves his side, Claire tells him William’s there. Jamie overhears William describing his hat being shot off his head and returns the hat to his son, admitting he was the shooter. Jamie hands it over and walks off without engaging in conversation.

William’s informed that General Fraser requested that he be promoted to captain. General Burgoyne just signed the order, and Simon learned of it before he passed away.

In the days that follow, General Burgoyne has basically agreed to the conditions of surrender and will be leaving America to return to England with his men. They can’t fight in this war again, which means that William is safe.

General Gates asks for a word in private and asks Jamie for a favor. Burgoyne won’t sign the surrender unless Jamie agrees to accompany Simon Fraser’s body to Scotland. Burgoyne believes that will help his men leave the war without feeling as though they’ve deserted the beloved general.

Jamie’s surprised by the request but happy to learn that they’ll be traveling to Scotland on one of His Majesty’s ships. (That solves the problem of making it past the blockade.) Jamie happily agrees and delivers the news to Claire, delighted they’re getting their wish to return to Scotland.

Ian breaks the news to Rachel and requests that she watch over Rollo while he’s gone. Rachel agrees, knowing how much Rollo means to Ian and aware that this means Ian will return to America. She explains she’ll be traveling south with the army, and Ian should be able to meet up with her at Valley Forge.

Rollo and Rachel run into Arch Bug in the woods, and Rachel explains that the dog belongs to a friend. Rollo recognizes Arch, and Arch suggests the dog’s owner must love her to entrust her with his dog. (Get far away from this man, Rachel!)

Claire, Jamie, and Ian sail off to Scotland, with Jamie experiencing a bad bout of sea sickness. Ian misses Rollo, and Jamie just wants to be on dry land. He refuses Claire’s offer of acupuncture, even though he’s been tossing his cookies. Ian and Claire get a good chuckle out of Jamie’s condition just as the bell rings, signifying land is in sight.

Jamie, Claire, and Ian head up to the deck and smile as they get their first look at Scotland in years.

And that’s our last visit with the trio until part two of season seven arrives in 2024.

Roger and Buck Time-Travel to Find Jemmy

Roger (Richard Rankin) and Buck (Diarmaid Murtagh) return to Lallybroch with the heartbreaking news that Rob took Jemmy through the stones. While they were out, Bree (Sophie Skelton) discovered the musket ball and letter about the gold are missing from the chest. Roger screams in anger and anguish, and knows he needs to head through the stones right now. Otherwise, he won’t catch up to them.

Roger’s certain they’ll head to Inverness to catch a ship to America. Buck volunteers to go with Roger since Bree needs to stay with Mandy. Buck’s fine with heading back to his own time and wants to help his kin. Bree has gems for both of them, and they prepare by getting into period clothing.

The family and Buck arrive at the stones, and the stones buzz in Buck’s ears. Roger promises to bring Jemmy home, says goodbye to Bree and Mandy, and steps through the stones with Buck.

Bree tries to hold back tears as she stares at the stones.

‘The Last Voyage of the Demeter’ Review

The Last Voyage of the Demeter Dracula

Numerous horror movies have been produced about the iconic vampire Dracula created by Bram Stoker, dating back to the silent film era with F.W. Murnau’s 1922 movie, Nosferatu. The latest entry in the Dracula story comes from filmmaker André Øvredal and focuses solely on one chapter of the Stoker novel The Last Voyage of the Demeter.

The film begins in 1897 on the shores of Whitby, England, with the shipwreck of the Demeter. A voice-over from the ship’s captain reading from his log warns that if the evil from the ship makes it ashore, may heaven help those it finds.

Upon investigation, the local police found no survivors on board.

A flashback shows the events four weeks prior in Transylvania. Captain Eliot (Liam Cunningham) and his first mate, Mr. Wojchek (David Dastmalchian), look for men to help fill out the crew for the voyage to England. Clemens (Corey Hawkins), a Cambridge-educated man, volunteers to be the ship’s doctor in hopes of returning to London. After demonstrating his knowledge of ship operations and saving the captain’s young grandson, Toby (Woody Norman), from a falling crate, he’s welcomed onto the ship.

Once the ship is loaded with its strange cargo consisting of 50 crates filled with dirt and bearing the mark of a Dragon Crest, the Demeter sets sail.

It’s after the first night that things start to go bad for the Demeter and her crew. All of the livestock on board have been killed, and their blood’s been drained. To add to the confusion, the crew discovers a stowaway. The stowaway is Anna (Aisling Franciosi), a young woman near death and in desperate need of a blood transfusion. Clemens performs the procedure and saves her.

The following night, one of the crew goes missing. The same thing happens the next night. With fear and superstition beginning to take over the crew, the captain orders that no man will stand a night watch alone. However, the next night, the two men standing watch discover the cause of their crew members disappearing when they come face to face with an evil-looking, human-sized bat creature that attacks them.

As Captain Eliot, Clemens, Wojchek, and the last remaining few begin to realize the true terror of what’s hunting them, they must decide whether to abandon ship or to try to kill the monster.

Dark, dull, and tedious, The Last Voyage of the Demeter is a terrible misfire in the horror genre with zero scares and an unimpressive cast. It borrows too heavily from other great horror films, including Nosferatu, 30 Days of Night, and most of all, Alien.

The film fails miserably to create any sort of tension or suspense. The overuse of jump scares becomes predictable after just the second instance, and they’re groan-inducing rather than frightening.

Unfortunately, Dracula, as portrayed by Javier Botet, lacks any personality and is turned into a huge grayish bat creature with wings. It seems as if this look was taken from the Netflix series Midnight Mass, which is far superior.

Nearly all of the characters in the film are one-dimensional and uninteresting. Liam Cunningham delivers the best performance as Captain Eliot, who goes from being a seasoned seafaring man to a terrified and desperate soul fighting to save his grandson and his ship. All the other performances are wooden and forgettable.

Lacking originality, character development, and – most importantly – scares, The Last Voyage of the Demeter has no bite and should sink at the box office.

‘Alone’ Season 10 Episode 10 Recap: “Rats”

Alone Season 10 Mikey
Mikey in ‘Alone’ season 10 (Photo Credit: The History Channel)

The action picks up on day 45 on History’s Alone season 10 episode 10. Mikey, Wyatt, and Alan began the episode not necessarily thriving but at least surviving in the remote islands around Reindeer Lake in Northern Saskatchewan, Canada. Episode 10, the penultimate episode, ends on day 51 with all three remaining in the quest for the $500,000 grand prize.

Mikey Hilton, Age 32, Rome, Georgia

Day 45 – The temperature’s a chilly 38 degrees, and Mikey’s built an impressive snowman, complete with a broom and top hat. He’s anxious to get home and hug his son but determined to remain in the competition. However, it’ll all be up to whether he can catch some food soon.

It snowed overnight and Mikey’s hoping to spot some tracks, but he doesn’t have any luck. This is his first winter in this environment, so he’s at a disadvantage. The only thing he spots is rat activity. This is the longest he’s gone hunting without catching anything.

If he fails Alone, he’ll feel like he’s failed his family.

Back at his camp, he sets up a rat trap. Alone informs us that Mikey’s 6’5” and started off the competition at 300 pounds. Thus far, he’s lost 67 pounds. Although he hopes for a moose or bear, he’d be happy to catch a rat at this point.

Day 47 – Mikey caught two rats in his shelter overnight. He woke up at 1:40am to snare them, and now that morning’s arrived, he gets to work cleaning them. Mikey won’t just settle for rats but is determined to get squirrels or grouse still. (They look more like mice than rats.)

He makes a stuffed rat out of the skin using twine he made from rope that he found. Mikey stuffs it with moss and shows the finished project to the camera.

Day 49 – Mikey boils some reindeer moss and pretends it’s sauerkraut. He’s got a lot of it and will spend time processing it and before storing it in a bag in his shelter.

Mikey’s still hoping to kill a squirrel or rabbit, and can’t believe he hasn’t caught a single fish, even though he sees them jumping. He takes a bite of his reindeer moss and admits it’s not that bad, comparing it to Mini Wheats.

One of Mikey’s new projects is to make his wife a pestle and mortar. The hunger is starting to get to him, but he wants to keep going. As he’s working on the mortar, he spots a marten close by. (Martens can be shot but not trapped.)

Mikey grabs his bow, but the marten runs away. He reminds himself to man up and not waste this opportunity.

He returns to his shelter to discover that his stuffed rats, and the one he killed last night but didn’t eat, are gone. His gut can is also empty, and he blames it on the marten that he saw earlier.

Day 50 – Mikey emerges from his shelter and yells, “Good morning!” He’s all bundled up and appears to be having a great time in the freezing weather.

Mikey burned a lot of wood overnight, and he believes the winter’s here to stay. His task for the day is to cut 50 pieces of wood, and he’s aware that you can’t win this challenge without hard work.

Day 51 – Mikey sings “Happy Birthday” to his son who’s turning five years old. He shows off the toys he made for his son and hopes his son had a terrific birthday. Mikey’s son doesn’t know why he’s gone, and Mikey’s sad he’s not there to celebrate his special day.

Mikey promises his son he’ll be home soon. He cries as he says, “I want to hear you say I love you, Daddy, in person.” His son means everything to him.

Alone Season 10 Wyatt
Wyatt in The History Channel’s ‘Alone’ season 10

James “Wyatt” Black, Age 51, Ontario, Canada

Day 46 – Wyatt greets the day with a weather report, happy that the snow’s melted off and the temperature’s now 41 degrees. He notes that he’s very familiar with this environment and believes that’s an advantage as the winter sets in.

“We’re in the serious stages now, boys and girls,” says Wyatt. He thinks the field has narrowed quite a bit at this point. He confesses he hopes his fellow survivalists aren’t having as good a time as he is. It’s all about focus. You can’t get caught up in thinking about home.

The waves are smashing as he checks his gillnet. He’s caught a fish but struggles to get it out of the lake before it’s released from his net. Wyatt’s latest catch is a three-to-four-pound whitefish.

Wyatt plans on eating a piece of this fish tonight and claims he has lots of days left in him. He warns himself not to think it hasn’t been too tough yet but believes that compared to his life, this hasn’t been bad. Wyatt wants to bring his family here when the challenge is over and camp for the night to feel this experience.

Wyatt grew up a social outcast more interested in hunting and fishing. Plus, he began drinking at 14, and everyone in his life tried to convince him to quit. However, the man he is today would try and guide that kid down a different path.

He believes the Alone experience can benefit a lot of people in getting rid of past troubles.

Day 49 – Wyatt ate a big breakfast and reveals he’s being less conservative with his food since he has eight fillets stored away. He’s feeling great both mentally and physically and appreciates the sound of silence.

Wyatt’s gillnet caught a massive pike that should take him close to day 100.

Day 50 – It’s 6pm and Wyatt’s happy to be there for day 50. His water froze quickly; it’s that cold in his shelter. Wyatt eats fish he’s stored in a cooler bag made of plastic gaiters, frozen moss, and ice and says goodnight.

But at 9:30 pm, Wyatt wakes to discover the wind changed direction and his chimney caught fire. He quickly dumps water on the chimney and puts it out, realizing he was seconds away from a real disaster. Wyatt blames himself because he forgot to water down the moss on his shelter.

The wind’s really blowing, and Wyatt decides to stay up until his fire goes out. It’s blowing at 50mph, and the shifting directions are sending smoke into his shelter.

Day 51 – Last night was Wyatt’s worst night. The wind chill has plunged the temperature to minus 1 degrees. He needs to assess the chimney damage and plans on reinforcing it with stone instead of moss. But he’s really not looking forward to going outside.

He finally emerges from his shelter, takes a look at the damage, and heads off to retrieve rocks from his pit to use on the chimney. Wyatt believes the more he can build it out, the less chance the wind will get in and cause another fire.

Wyatt thinks his dad will be very proud of what he’s accomplished. It wouldn’t have been possible without his father’s teachings.

Alone Season 10 Alan Tenta
Alan Tenta in ‘Alone’ season 10 (Photo Credit: The History Channel)

Alan Tenta, Age 52, Columbia Valley, BC, Canada

Day 46 – Alan’s shirtless and shows off his 53-pound weight loss. However, he’s happy to see he still has a little bit of fat he can lose around his tummy and sides.

The snow’s disappeared, and it feels like a warm front is passing through. Alan takes advantage of the weather and gets to fishing, confessing “hungry” is his new normal. He’s been eating half a fish a day but he’ll up that if he’s feeling too weak to continue.

He chuckles when he catches a lake trout, claiming it will help him last two more days on top of his other stored fish. He sets to work cleaning the fish and plans on tossing it in his smoker. He guesses the names of his fellow survivalists still in the competition and only gets Wyatt correct. (He seems to think that are many more people still out in the wilderness than there actually are.)

Alan thinks he still has a chance, but it will be a grind.

As he’s cleaning the fish, he notices it has cysts all over its insides. (They could be tapeworms.) Alan’s conflicted about what to do and rinses his fish, unwilling to toss it away. He fillets it and admits he’s been thinking a lot about home. Unfortunately, as he’s working on the fish, he cuts himself. He’s bleeding, but it’s just a small cut, so he’s not too worried.

Alan knows that if he taps, he’ll just be home by himself. His wife works all day, and his daughter’s in school. He’s determined not to have any regrets.

He smokes half the fish and boils the other half, hoping to kill any parasites in the meat. Alan’s nervous about it and will take a close look at the meat to make sure there isn’t anything inside it. He admits it’s overcooked, but that was necessary.

Day 48 – It’s now just 23 degrees outside, and last night was the first night Alan felt really cold, despite being inside his expensive sleeping bag rated for minus 40 degrees. He was shivering so much that he got up, put on his sweater, and sealed himself inside his sleeping bag except for an air hole.

The ground’s frozen, but he wants to get a little fishing in, despite the cold. Alan doesn’t think the fish will stick around much longer. His hands are so cold that his spool goes into the water. Fortunately, he has another spool back at camp. Still, he doesn’t give up on the spool and is able to retrieve it because he had tied his line to it.

Alan doesn’t catch anything and announces that he’s done fishing.

50 days is a huge milestone, and he’s looking forward to lasting that long.

Day 50 – Snow blankets the woods and it’s 22 degrees, and Alan shows off the area around his shelter. Despite the weather, he’s still hopeful that he can do a little fishing. He confesses it’s getting harder each day and that he really misses his family.

The approach to the lake is treacherous and slippery, and Alan’s super careful as he prepares to fish. There’s only one little area that’s safe to stand as he casts his line, contemplating the lake freezing over soon.

Alan studied the past seasons and is trying to learn from all the mistakes. He even took notes of potential problems he could encounter and researched answers before the season began. Adam considers his fishing days might have come to an end until he’s able to ice fish.

After five casts, he gives up and returns to his shelter. Alan confesses he’s feeling depleted and reveals he discussed the potential for these dark days with his family before he began this adventure.

Alan will need to eat from his stores until he can head back out again.

The Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) and Writers Guild of America (WGA) strikes have taken a toll on the 75th Emmy Awards. Originally scheduled to take place on Monday, September 18, 2023 at the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE, the Television Academy and Fox have moved out of 2023 entirely and landed on a new January 15, 2024 date.

Both SAG-AFTRA and WGA are seeking fair deals, including new guidelines for the use of AI and residual payments.

The Emmys honor standout performances as well as outstanding work by writers, directors, and craftspeople. The 75th Emmy Awards will be executive produced by Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon, and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay of Jesse Collins Entertainment.

The Creative Arts Emmy Awards also have a new date, shifting to two consecutive nights on Saturday, January 6, and Sunday, January 7, 2024. FXX will air an edited presentation of the Creative Arts Emmys on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 8:00 PM EST/PST.
