‘Barry’ Season 3 Trailer: Barry Just Wants a Second Chance

The official trailer for the long-awaited third season of HBO’s Barry opens with Barry (Bill Hader) standing in the middle of nowhere, eating. Flashbacks of season two zoom by followed by new clips from season three, including a scene of Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler) examining a gun while a sign on his studio door indicates he’s no longer teaching acting.

The trailer teases Barry’s interested in second chances and is looking for purpose in his life. “Forgiveness is something that has to be earned,” replies Noho Hank (Anthony Carrigan). “It’s like that line in Shawshank Redemption, ‘Get rich or die trying.'” Close but no cigar, Noho.

Additional season three stars include Stephen Root as Monroe Fuches, Barry’s former handler currently in hiding; Sarah Goldberg as Sally, Barry’s girlfriend in the midst of launching her first TV series; and Sarah Burns as Detective Mae Dunn. D’Arcy Carden (The Good Place) and Michael Irby (Mayans M.C.) return in recurring roles as Natalie Greer and Cristobal.

Bill Hader and Alec Berg co-created the Emmy Award-winning comedy and serve as executive producers, writers, and directors.

Season one premiered in March 2018 followed by season two in March 2019. The eight-episode third season will finally premiere after a lengthy delay (thanks to Covid-19) on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at 10pm ET/PT.

HBO released the following synopsis for season three:

“Desperate to leave his violent past behind in favor of his newfound passion, Barry (Hader) is attempting to untangle himself from the world of contract killing and fully immerse himself in acting. But getting out is messy. While Barry has eliminated many of the external factors that pushed him towards violence, he soon discovers they weren’t the only forces at play. What is it about his own psyche that led him to become a killer in the first place? Season three finds Barry and the other characters trying to make the right choice.”
