HBO’s officially renewed the award-winning comedy Barry for a fourth season. The delayed third season (production was put on hold due to Covid-19) debuted on April 24, 2022, with new episodes arriving on Sundays leading up to the June 12th finale.

HBO’s renewal announcement revealed series star and co-creator Bill Hader will direct every episode of the eight-episode fourth season. Hader and co-creator Alec Berg serve as executive producers.

Filming is expected to get underway in Los Angeles next month.

“Bill, Alec, and the entire cast and crew delivered an exquisite third season of Barry, it’s a masterful blend of laughs and suspense,” said Amy Gravitt, executive vice president, HBO Programming. “I’m so happy to announce that we are picking up the fourth season.”

Season three stars Bill Hader as Barry, Stephen Root as Monroe Fuches, Sarah Goldberg as Sally, Henry Winkler as Gene Cousineau, Anthony Carrigan as NoHo Hank, and Sarah Burns as Detective Mae Dunn. D’Arcy Carden and Michael Irby appear in recurring roles.

HBO didn’t provide any hints as to the season four plot or when we can expect the fourth season to premiere.

HBO’s synopsis for season three:

“Desperate to leave his violent past behind in favor of his newfound passion, Barry (Hader) is attempting to untangle himself from the world of contract killing and fully immerse himself in acting. But getting out is messy. While Barry has eliminated many of the external factors that pushed him towards violence, he soon discovers they weren’t the only forces at play. What is it about his own psyche that led him to become a killer in the first place? Season three finds Barry and the other characters trying to make the right choice.”
