NBC’s Brilliant Minds finally returned on May 27, 2026 for the start of the final new episodes of both season two and the series. Season two, episode 15 opens with a woman named Denise and her friends walking out of a nightclub after a night of partying. She spots a man getting out of a taxi and panics. A car nearly hits Denise when she runs into the street and collapses in front of it.
(The following is a recap of season two, episode 15, “The Missing Person,” and there are spoilers.)
Oliver ghosts Carol (Tamberla Perry) when she calls, worried after realizing Sofia might not exist.
Katie (Mishel Prada) suggests that she and Dana (Aury Krebs) move in together, and Dana mistakenly believes that Ericka (Ashleigh LaThrop) will move with them. Katie corrects her, reminding her girlfriend that Ericka should be ready to take the big step and strike out on her own now.
Meanwhile, Denise’s friend Sheila immediately approaches Dr. Anthony Thorne (John Clarence Stewart) when he arrives at work. They’ve been waiting for hours, and Anthony agrees to check her out. Denise reveals she has panic attacks and that she fell in the street. She hasn’t seen a doctor about the attacks and seems to think they’re not a big deal. When she fell, her shoulder dislocated and as Anthony puts it back in place, Denise has another panic attack. Her heart races and Anthony’s stunned at how fast it’s beating. He asks her to stick around to get checked out by neuro.
Carol admits to Josh (Teddy Sears) that she’s really worried about Oliver. He didn’t call her last weekend, and he didn’t show up today. She believes Oliver is having a breakdown and thinks it has something to do with Charlie Porter. Carol also confesses that Oliver might be talking to an imaginary person.
Charlie (Brian Altemus), Ericka, and Dana examine Denise, and it doesn’t appear she has any neurological impairments. However, they want to run a few more tests. They inform Thorne of their findings, which isn’t much, but Nico (Al Calderon) has a bombshell to add to Denise’s story. She’s on the NYPD’s Missing Persons List.
Carol stops by Wolf’s place and learns from a guy named Brad who answers the door that Oliver hasn’t been home in three days. They met at a bar, and Brad can’t believe Oliver’s already ghosting him.
Denise isn’t surprised when Ericka and Dana tell her she’s on the Missing Persons list. But she doesn’t want to talk about it.
Anthony’s flirting with Carol (she doesn’t understand why) just as Denise starts throwing things around. Carol knows this isn’t a panic attack, but the team still hasn’t narrowed down her symptoms.
When Carol learns the team hasn’t heard from Oliver, she breaks into his office with Josh’s help. They search for any mention of Sofia in his paperwork but don’t find anything. What they do find is his cell phone, which means they can’t reach him.
Katie breaks the news to Ericka that she and Dana will be moving in together. Ericka seems to take it well, admitting she’s been the third wheel for too long. The rest of the conversation must wait because Denise’s heart rate has spiked again.
Charlie thinks Denise is about to stroke out and all the meds they’re pushing are having the reverse effect of what they intended.
The man from the cab walks into the hospital with his dad and brother, asking about Denise. Apparently, he’s her brother too, and they don’t want to leave until they find her. Nico talks to Denise’s brother and confirms their dad has dementia and Denise has been missing for a month. They’re frantic that something’s happened to her. Unfortunately, Nico’s not allowed to divulge any patient info.
The tests come back and Denise has a non-cancerous tumor that makes her adrenaline levels spike. Charlie describes the tumor as acting like cocaine in the way that it affects her body. Stress, exercise, or even touch can trigger it.
They need imaging to find the tumor, and now they know the correct meds to give her.
Nico informs Denise and the team that Denise’s family is there for her and they’re worried. She would rather not see them but wants them to know she’s fine.
Denise speaks with Carol and confesses that she’s been her dad’s full-time caregiver. She’s done everything for him for the past few years, and he can’t do anything without her now. Denise’s heart is broken by her dad’s advanced dementia, but her family just assumes she wants to be the caregiver. She’d rather be a stylist, like her mom.
The “panic attacks” started a few months ago and she thought it was her body telling her she needed time off. She crashed with her BFF Sheila to get away from her family, but the episodes continued. Carol suggests that she consider assisted living for her dad, and Denise admits she told herself she never wanted to do that. But Carol believes it will help her become a better caretaker for her father.

Josh and the team tell Denise that her tumor is in her neck near her spine, which makes it very risky to remove. However, not removing it isn’t an option. Josh describes it as a delicate operation, and he expects she’ll survive. Denise admits she knew something was wrong and asks if her family’s still around.
Dana confesses to Ericka that she doesn’t want to move in with Katie. She’s just not ready to do that yet. Ericka volunteers to tell her, but Dana knows she needs to do it herself.
Dana fills Katie in on how she feels, confessing that she doesn’t want to kick Ericka out. She admits she should have told her this morning. Dana also admits that the hurt she felt over not being picked for kickball still bubbles to the surface occasionally.
Katie confirms that she loves her after Dana asks if she even cares for her. Katie confesses that she believes Dana cares for Ericka more than her, and Dana explains that she doesn’t need to choose between them. Katie’s her girlfriend; Ericka’s her sister.
Carol confronts the Hudson Riders’ motorcycle club after discovering missed calls from them on Oliver’s phone. She’s told that Wolf is a friend and a longtime customer, but Carol refuses to back off. Fortunately, Rosie (Kate Corbett) walks in and tells the club to show Carol respect. She’s family. (Rosie was introduced in season one, episode three, “The Lost Biker.” Her husband, Wyatt, needed Oliver and the team’s help.)
After catching up on life with Wyatt, Rosie confirms Oliver swung by last night but was acting weird. He wanted to sell his motorcycle, which was totally out of character. She promises to call Carol if they hear from Oliver again.
Carol returns to the hospital and asks if Oliver’s checked in. She confesses he’s not answering his phone and tried to sell his bike.
The surgery was a success and Denise should completely recover. Her brothers volunteer to take care of their dad so she can have weekends off, but Denise needs more. She wants them to consider an assisted living facility. Denise thinks their dad deserves better care than she can give him, and it will help all their relationships. Her dad asks about Sunday dinners, and she agrees she’ll never miss it. That seems to be all that’s needed to make her dad agree to moving to assisted living.
Charlie confesses to Carol that he told Oliver his dad’s apartment address. He learned it from a private detective he hired to get dirt on Oliver. Carol’s furious at Charlie and tells him he needs help.
Carol discovers that Oliver’s dad’s place has been totally trashed. She finds Oliver’s handwritten notes and is even more concerned about his mental state.
Oliver finally shows up at work, confused and out of it. He demands to know where Sofia’s file is, and the team is incredibly concerned. Thank goodness Josh is there and quickly convinces him the file is in his office. Oliver apologizes to everyone and follows Josh to his office.
Carol arrives a short time later and Oliver’s convinced Hudson Oaks stole Sofia’s file and that they’re holding her against her will. Carol knows Oliver’s in bad shape and assures him she’ll go with him to Hudson Oaks to save Sofia.
He asks Carol not to tell his mom and she promises not to.
They arrive at Hudson Oaks and Carol reassures him that checking himself in is for the best. She promises to see him soon; Oliver believes that he’ll be fine once he gets Sofia out of there.
Carol is devastated as the staff leads a frail-looking Oliver away.
As she’s heading to her daughter’s recital, her car runs out of gas. She calls Anthony Thorne for help and he arrives quickly. Anthony reveals he flirts with her because he can’t help himself. Carol asks for another favor, and Anthony agrees to accompany her to her daughter’s recital.
