The newest series in the expanding Dexter franchise, Dexter: Original Sin, has landed Christian Slater, Patrick Gibson, and Molly Brown in starring roles. Original Sin dives into Dexter’s past, with Patrick Gibson (Shadow and Bone) playing the titular character 15 years before we met Michael C. Hall as the serial killer.

Per Paramount+ with Showtime, Christian Slater (Mr. Robot) will play Dexter’s adoptive father, Homicide Detective Harry Morgan, played by James Remar in the original series. Molly Brown (Senior Year) is on board as Dexter’s sister, Debra Morgan, originally played by Jennifer Carpenter.

“Set in 1991 Miami, Dexter: Original Sin follows Dexter (Gibson) as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry (Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar,” reads Paramount+ with Showtime’s synopsis. “This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.”

Emmy nominee Clyde Phillips (Dexter, Nurse Jackie) guides the series, originally titled Dexter: Origins, as showrunner and executive producer. Additional executive producers include Scott Reynolds, Michael C. Hall, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns. Robert Lloyd Lewis produces, and Michael Lehmann (Heathers) is the directing executive producer.

The 10-episode season is produced by SHOWTIME Studios and Counterpart Studios.

Dexter premiered in 2006 and ran for eight seasons, wrapping up in 2013. Michael C. Hall reprised his role for the 10-episode sequel, Dexter: New Blood, which debuted in 2021.
