Apple TV+’s critically acclaimed drama For All Mankind has officially been renewed for a fourth season. The 10-episode third season premiered in June 2022 and will wrap up on August 12th.

Season three moved the action forward to the 1990s and featured a three-way race to be the first to land on Mars. The United States and the Soviet Union continued their battle for space superiority, but a privately owned company upped the ante by inserting itself into the race to put humans on the Red Planet.

Edi Gathegi joined the cast for season three, playing Dev Ayesa, the CEO of Helios. Helios quickly became a major player in the space race, and its status as a legitimate competitor solidified after hiring Ed Baldwin (Joel Kinnaman) to lead their flight team.

In a quick interview with Showbiz Junkies on Fandom’s 2022 San Diego Comic-Con red carpet prior to the renewal announcement, Gathegi agreed For All Mankind is really delivering the goods this season. “It just gets better and better. Every season just gets better and better,” said Gathegi.

Describing Dev Ayesa, Gathegi said, “He’s fascinating. He’s a fascinating guy, very intelligent, very ambitious, and he’s got so many layers that we haven’t even discovered yet.”

Asked if we’ll be learning more of Dev’s backstory, Gathegi replied, “If we get another season…I’m sure we will.”

Edi Gathegi admitted he was late to the game when it came to climbing aboard the For All Mankind bandwagon. “You know, I didn’t watch it before I was on it, but when the opportunity came up, I binged it and fell in love. I had to join after I watched it.”

And in a recent interview with Screen Rant, Gathegi spoke about Dev’s relationship with Ed Baldwin.

“Dev is just a ‘best ideas win’ kind of guy. There’s a little bit of nostalgia with Ed Baldwin and what Ed was able to achieve, so that’s kind of like a cool ‘I’m hanging out with Babe Ruth.’ But really, at the end of the day, Babe Ruth is useless and we just have his collector’s item and move on and find the best-qualified person for the job, but he happens to think that it could still be Ed,” explained Gathegi. “So, Dev is primarily focused with success and success within his goals, within his business. So, he’s going to surround himself with people that can help him get there best.”

In addition to Joel Kinnaman and Edi Gathegi, season three features Shantel VanSanten, Jodi Balfour, Sonya Walger, Krys Marshall, Cynthy Wu, Casey Johnson, Coral Peña, and Wrenn Schmidt. Ronald D. Moore, Ben Nedivi, and Matt Wolpert created the series and serve as executive producers, with Nedivi and Wolpert as showrunners. Maril Davis, David Weddle, Bradley Thompson, and Nichole Beattie also executive produce.

Filming is expected to begin in August 2022.

The Plot:For All Mankind explores what would have happened if the global space race had never ended. The series presents an aspirational world where NASA astronauts, engineers and their families find themselves in the center of extraordinary events seen through the prism of an alternate history timeline — a world in which the USSR beats the US to the moon.

The propulsive third season of the alternate-reality series takes viewers to a new decade, moving into the early ‘90s with a high-octane race to a new planetary frontier: MARS. The Red Planet becomes the new front in the Space Race not only for the U.S. and the Soviet Union, but also an unexpected new entrant with a lot to prove and even more at stake. Our characters find themselves going head-to-head as their ambitions for Mars come into conflict and their loyalties are tested, creating a pressure cooker that builds to a climactic conclusion.”
