FX and BBC have released the first two photos from the upcoming Great Expectations limited series. Based on the classic novel by Charles Dickens, the limited series adaptation stars Oscar winner Olivia Colman (The Favourite) as Miss Havisham and Fionn Whitehead (Dunkirk) as Pip.
The cast also includes Shalom Brune-Franklin, Ashley Thomas, Johnny Harris, Hayley Squires, Owen McDonnell, Trystan Gravelle, Rudi Dharmalingam, and Matt Berry.
Filming is still underway in London on the six-part limited series.
Oscar nominee and BAFTA Award-winning writer Steven Knight created the series and serves as writer and executive producer. Additional executive producers include Tom Hardy, Ridley Scott, Dean Baker, David W. Zucker, Kate Crowe, and Tommy Bulfin. The series is produced by FX Productions in association with the BBC, Scott Free, and Hardy Son & Baker.
“Adapting Dickens’ work is a delight. I chose Great Expectations as the next work to bring to the screen not just because of the timeless characters but also because of the very timely story,” said Steven Knight in May 2020 when the series was announced. “A story of class mobility and class intransigence, told through an intensely emotional and personal first-person narrative. As the son of a Blacksmith myself, Pip’s journey from the forge into society is a very special one to me.”
Also in May 2020, FX Entertainment Eric Schrier said, “FX is honored to begin the next chapter of collaboration with Steven Knight, Ridley Scott, Tom Hardy and their teams as they reunite for this modern adaption of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations. Their inaugural Dickens adaptation, A Christmas Carol, was a great success both creatively and commercially.
