Based on a True Story piqued my interest with its short but exceedingly bizarre plot description. Adding The Flight Attendant‘s Kaley Cuoco to star is just the cherry on top of this darkly comedic thriller coming to Peacock.

According to Peacock, Based on a True Story is, in fact, inspired by a true event. The series follows “a realtor, a plumber and a former tennis star whose lives unexpectedly collide, exposing America’s obsession with true crime, murder and the slow close toilet seat.”

There’s so much to explore in that synopsis but the “slow close toilet seat” stands out, doesn’t it?

The casting announcement didn’t provide any details on who the two-time Emmy Award-nominated Cuoco will be playing, only teasing that her name is Ava Bartlett and she’s married. Everything else about the character is being kept under wraps.

Emmy Award nominee Craig Rosenberg (The Boys) is guiding the series as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Aggregate Films’ Jason Bateman (Ozark, The Outsider) and Michael Costigan are on board as executive producers. The series is produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group.

Cuoco earned two Emmy Award nominations in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for The Flight Attendant. She also earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series as an executive producer. Additional credits include The Big Bang Theory, Harley Quinn (the animated series), and The Man from Toronto. Cuoco is currently working on the action-thriller Role Play with Connie Nielsen and recently wrapped up Meet Cute with Pete Davidson.
