‘Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey’ Docuseries Debuts a New Trailer

Netflix just dropped a new trailer for Emmy Award winning filmmaker Rachel Dretzin’s Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey. Dretzin’s docuseries delves into the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS) and “prophet” Warren Jeffs.

“The women in our series managed to leave the FLDS with no real education or skills, no money, no support whatsoever. For their whole lives they had been valued solely as plural wives and as breeders of children,” stated director/executive producer Rachel Dretzin. “To leave meant saying goodbye to everything and everyone they loved to start over in a society they didn’t understand. ‘Badass’ doesn’t begin to describe how fierce they are. I am proud to be connected to them and grateful to have had the opportunity to tell their story.”

The four-part series premieres on Netflix on June 8, 2022. Grace McNally co-directed and produced, with Jeff Skoll, Diane Weyermann, Miura Kite, Zachary Herrmann, and Alison Dammann involved as executive producers.

Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey is a Participant and Ark Media production.

Keep Sweet Pray and Obey Poster

Netflix released the following synopsis:

“In 2008, a dramatic raid at the Yearning for Zion Ranch in West Texas generated attention around the world, as law enforcement agents uncovered stunning evidence of sexual, physical and psychological abuse and took 400+ children into custody. Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey, directed by Emmy and Peabody Award-winning filmmaker Rachel Dretzin, gives viewers an in-depth look into the secretive polygamous sect of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS) and the rise of self-professed prophet Warren Jeffs.

The four-part documentary series features never-before-seen archival footage and harrowing personal stories from some of the courageous women and men who escaped. From forced underage marriage and pregnancy to a complete unraveling into an oppressive criminal cult under Warren Jeffs’ rule, the story uncovers extraordinary bravery battling tyrannical control in modern America.”
