‘Jurassic World Dominion’ Featurette Focuses on the Film’s Fierce Females

Universal Pictures’ Jurassic World Dominion featurette, “Women Inherit Earth,” begins with franchise star Laura Dern revealing she understood right from the start that her Jurassic Park character was unusual for an action film. “It was important to Steven (Spielberg) and myself that Ellie was a feminist female action character,” explains Dern in the two and half minute video.

Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard describes Dern’s character, Dr. Ellie Sattler, as such an iconic and important character because she’s a scientist and paleobotanist. “It was really important to see an inspiring character like that as a young person,” says Howard.

Dern’s proud that all the female characters in this action franchise are strong, badass, and complicated.

The new featurette also includes an interview snippet with Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom‘s Isabella Sermon who reprises her role as Maisie Lockwood. “It’s so important to have these female role models. Maisie as a character has grown up with Claire as a mother who’s really strong and fiery,” explains Sermon.

Jurassic newcomer DeWanda Wise says she feels “beyond honored” to be a part of this franchise. “From inception, it’s had great roles for women that have a degree of character development and depth – and that’s what I saw in Kayla,” says Wise.

The cast of the 2022 entry in the dinosaur franchise also includes Chris Pratt, Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill, Mamoudou Athie, and Dichen Lachman. Scott Haze, Campbell Scott, BD Wong, Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, and Omar Sy also star.

Jurassic World Dominion roars into theaters on June 10, 2022.

“From Jurassic World architect and director Colin Trevorrow, Dominion takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live — and hunt — alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures.”
