NBC just delivered news that surprised no one, announcing the renewals of both Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU. As expected, the popular dramas will remain important pieces of the network’s primetime lineup.
Law & Order: SVU will return for season 27, while Law & Order was renewed for its 25th season. NBC didn’t confirm returning cast for either show, but it’s expected that Mariska Hargitay and Ice T will continue to lead the SVU cast. Unfortunately, Octavio Pisano (Det. Joe Velasco) and Juliana Aidén Martinez (Det. Kate Silva) will not be returning as series regulars. And the series will have a new showrunner when the new season begins production, with Michele Fazekas on board as the long-running drama’s first female showrunner.
Thus far, there’s no word on who will return from Law & Order‘s core cast. Season 25 starred Hugh Dancy, Tony Goldwyn, Odelya Halevi, Mehcad Brooks, Reid Scott, and Maura Tierney. The series is executive produced by Dick Wolf, Rick Eid, Pamela Wechsler, Alex Hall, and Peter Jankowski.
Dick Wolf, David Graziano, Julie Martin, Mariska Hargitay, Norberto Barba, Kenneth Brown, and Peter Jankowski executive produce SVU.
The network reports more than 44 million total viewers have watched the Law & Order shows during their current seasons. Additionally, both shows are experiencing their best seasons on Peacock.
On May 5, 2025 NBC announced the renewals of Chicago Fire for season 14, Chicago Med for season 11, and Chicago P.D. for season 13. The network hasn’t confirmed the fate of Brilliant Minds, Found, Grosse Pointe Garden Society, The Hunting Party, The Irrational, Lopez vs. Lopez, Night Court, or Suits LA.
