NBC’s new medical drama New Amsterdam has released its first trailer along with a few new photos from season one episode one. The one-hour series will debut this fall in the 10pm ET/PT Tuesday time slot immediately after NBC’s critically acclaimed drama, This Is Us, beginning September 25th.
Ryan Eggold (The Blacklist, The Blacklist: Redemption) leads the cast of the medical drama from writer and executive producer David Schulner. Janet Montgomery (Salem, This Is Us), Tyler Labine (Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency), Jocko Sims (The Last Ship, Masters of Sex), Freema Agyeman (Sense8, The Carrie Diaries), and J Anupam Kher (The Indian Detective) also star in season one.
Kate Dennis directed and executive produced the pilot. Peter Horton (Grey’s Anatomy, Six Degrees) serves as an executive producer, with Dr. Eric Manheimer producing. Manheimer wrote the memoir Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital and was the Chief Medical Director at Bellevue Hospital and Medical Center for 15 years.
The Plot: Inspired by Bellevue, the oldest public hospital in America, this unique medical drama follows the brilliant and charming Dr. Max Goodwin (Eggold), the institution’s newest medical director who sets out to tear up the bureaucracy and provide exceptional care. How can he help? Well, the doctors and staff have heard this before. Not taking “no” for an answer, Dr. Goodwin must disrupt the status quo and prove he will stop at nothing to breathe new life into this understaffed, underfunded and underappreciated hospital — the only one in the world capable of treating Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers and the President of the United States under one roof — and return it to the glory that put it on the map.
