Every Psych fan already knows this news, but USA Network has made it absolutely official: the popular series will be returning for a seventh season. The network’s ordered 16 new episodes of the series – their longest-running – starring James Roday and Dule Hill.

USA Co-Presidents Chris McCumber and Jeff Wachtel made the announcement saying the show will return later this year with A-list guest stars. The series wraps up season six on February 29, 2012.

Roday and Hill broke the news to fans through the show’s Facebook page and Tweet account. They shared multiple pieces of a pineapple puzzle, with the final puzzle piece unlocking a video message from Roday and Hill about the renewal.

“We are always trying to find ways to reward our Psych brand ambassadors for their loyalty and passion and social media plays a critical role in how we connect with the people who matter most — the fans,” stated McCumber and Wachtel. “It was exciting to deliver this historical news to them first and before traditional media.”

The Plot:

This cult favorite stars Roday as a police consultant who solves crimes with powers of observation so acute the precinct detectives think he’s psychic. With help from his best friend and reluctant sidekick (Hill), he continues to solve the mysterious and often bizarre crimes of the Santa Barbara Police Department.
