Madchen Amick Interview on ‘Riverdale’ Season 3 and Alice Joining a Cult

The CW’s Riverdale season three will find all of the characters including Alice Cooper (Mädchen Amick) dealing with heavy issues. For Alice, it’s actually the fact she doesn’t want to deal with the reality that she was married to a killer that drives her into joining a cult.

During the 2018 New York Comic Con, Mädchen Amick took part in roundtable interviews to delve into the show’s third season. Riverdale season three premiered on October 10th, with the new season airing Wednesday nights at 8pm ET/PT.

Riverdale takes the cast in dark and twist places. What can we expect from Alice in season three?

Mädchen Amick: “She goes into full cult hippie mode. She’s in complete denial as to having a serial killer for a husband, so she’s reached out for the nearest thing to comfort her which is probably not the best thing for her. But, she’s full in. Three months have gone by over the summer and she’s completely bought in.”

How will that affect her relationship with Betty?

Mädchen Amick: “Betty doesn’t like it because, you know, Betty’s smart. She sees right through stuff. Alice is just like, ‘No, it would be good for you, too.’ She wants them all to go together and everything’s going to be fine. But, of course, Betty’s like, ‘No.’ So, yeah, that’s what’s going to cause the rift between them for the moment.”

Is there anyone that Alice is going to be teaming up with or depending on since her relationship isn’t good with Betty at this point?

Mädchen Amick: “Well, I mean they kind of always have this thing where they’re at odds but then when their family’s threatened they always come together. They drop all issues with each other and go to bat for each other. So, we’re definitely tested. Betty and Alice in particular in one episode are in a lot of danger so they come together and have to fight.”

Will Alice be trying to indoctrinate other members of the Riverdale community into the Farm? Like, FP for example?

Mädchen Amick: “I’m hearing that there’s going to be quite an infiltration of the Farm and I think Alice is going to be involved in it. I don’t know how that’s going to flesh out, but I’m hearing inklings of it. It’s going to weave its web into the entire town.”

Would you consider the Farm to be the big bad of this season?

Mädchen Amick: “I think it’s the big bad maybe of the second part. It’s kind of being established in the first. We’ve got the Gargoyle King and everything that happens with that. And then we also have Hiram, you know? We just can’t get rid of that villain. So, the Farm I think becomes a bigger looming threat overall.”

Since there’s a flashback episode and we see a younger version of Alice, is there anything in that episode that you learned about her that you didn’t know before?

Mädchen Amick: “I mean, I think I pretty much already assumed what we learned. But it was really fun to see that fleshed out and how different she was as a teenager.”

Some of the best Alice scenes are when she goes full Serpent. Will that happen this season?

Mädchen Amick: “We haven’t had a Serpent mode yet, but I think Serpent mode is always on standby. She’s always got her Serpent mode switch. If she needs it, she can pull it out. But I would love to see her get back to Serpent Alice. That’s badass.”
