After taking a week off for the 4th of July, The CW’s Roswell, New Mexico season four episode five picks up with Max (Nathan Dean) confronting Tezca – still looking like Cam – near Jones’ stolen body. Tezca confirms Jones sent a message via the Lockhart machine and that initially the plan was for them to arrive on Earth to finish what Jones started. However, plans have changed and she wants to teach Max what he’s set to become.

Blue flames devour Jones’ dead body.

Max finally returns home the following morning and the PodSquad’s gathered, including Cam (Riley Voelkel) who’s recovering from being knocked out by Tezca. Max fills them in on his encounter with Tezca and how she shocked him by burning Jones’ body. He doesn’t know what’s going on – or the new triad’s plans – but he’s now connected to Tezca through his handprint after healing her, believing she was Cam.

Liz (Jeanine Mason) wants to sever that connection but Max assures her Tezca doesn’t want to kill him. It’s decided Liz will turn her attention to getting the alien DNA out of Cam’s system, and Max and Michael (Michael Vlamis) will head out to search for Eduardo.

And now we catch up with Kyle (Michael Trevino) in Mexico as he’s interrupted before cutting open Tezca’s pod by the unexpected appearance of Isobel (Lily Cowles). Although she’d love to sample a little of Kyle’s family’s tequila, Kyle says that needs to wait while they work on Tezca’s pod. (Neither Isobel nor Kyle was part of the morning’s PodSquad meeting, so they’re in the dark about Max’s Tezca encounter.)

After they finish up surgery on the pod, Kyle cuts to the chase and asks why Isobel’s really there. Isobel confesses that Anatsa didn’t want to listen when she tried to come clean. “Instead of telling her the truth, I just drove the only good relationship I’ve ever had right off a cliff,” says Isobel, smiling through the pain.

Isobel needed to leave town to clear her head. She tosses out that it’s a relief to be around him and Kyle fumbles his response, unable to say how he really feels.

Isobel snoops around and figures out this place – Xitlali – is owned by Kyle’s family. They read a journal that says on the day Isobel’s family crashed, other objects fell from the sky. They collected all the otherworldly items and kept them in Xitlali. Kyle’s family vowed to protect the items until the Sky Gods came for them.

“Kyle, your family has been protecting my family for the last 75 years!” says Isobel.

They look through the log of all the Valentis who’ve lived at Xitlali, and one name – Sonya Valenti from Santa Fe – piques their interest. Their conversation comes to an abrupt halt when a woman emerges from the other room with a knife. It’s Sonya, Eduardo’s son, and she’s been in Xitlali for eight years waiting for the sky people.

The last alien who showed up shoved her into the empty pod the Valentis had been keeping safe. They figure out the alien is a shapeshifter who named herself Tezca after a shapeshifting Aztec god.

Sonya confirms she wasn’t the one who sent Eduardo the letter telling him to come to Xitlali. She believes the crazy Dr. Allie Meyers did it. Sonya also discovers Tezca stole an alien glass board that is supposed to hold three glass pieces. It was sent to Xitlali from Roswell to keep it safe but now it’s missing.

Meanwhile in Roswell, Maria (Heather Hemmens) watches Dallas (Quentin Plair) work on his alien skills. Dallas reveals when he “flexes his alien muscles,” he triggers memories of his dad. He shows Maria a drawing of a necklace his dad was wearing and he’s confused because he thinks the memory’s from Earth, which doesn’t make sense.

Maria’s seen the symbol in an abandoned church.

Michael knows Max is hiding something from Liz and wants Max to spill the beans while they’re alone and driving around, trying to find Eduardo. Reluctantly, Max explains Liz is worried about another shoe dropping and now he thinks he’s the shoe. Michael is, understandably, confused. (Can we pause a minute here and ask why hasn’t Michael been worried about Alex being out of contact for so long?!)

Max reveals Tezca said he has no choice but to evolve and showed him powers he had no idea he possessed. Suddenly, Max goes limp in the truck as he’s pulled into Tezca’s mindscape. She corrects him and says it’s “their” mindscape, not just hers.

Tezca – still wearing her Cam skin – uses her powers to squeeze his internal organs, making them secrete enzymes that help with his evolution. “You will have the power to change everything,” says Tezca.

Max comes to in the truck and confesses Tezca’s waking up powers that have been dormant. Max is freaked out and doesn’t think Michael should keep trying to get in with Bonnie and Clyde. Michael’s adamant he needs to continue and asks for the third glass cube so he can figure out what it does.

Cam and Liz have a heart-to-heart and Cam wonders when Liz is going to call out Max for keeping secrets. Liz thinks he’ll tell her when he’s ready. Cam, on the other hand, thinks he needs a little kick to get it out of him.

Michael’s in the barn looking for Eduardo when Clyde (Andrew Lees) shows up. Michael proves to be fast on his feet when he says he was looking for Clyde and discovered the chair with ropes around it. Clyde explains Bonnie took the man they held captive – a loose end – and was supposed to get rid of him. However, she’s been gone too long and he can feel that she’s conflicted.

Michael offers to help look for her and Clyde shows him Bonnie’s favorite hideaway. Michael fills Clyde in on his childhood and Clyde reveals he was also ignored and unloved on The Oasis. It wasn’t until Jones found him that he had a path forward. However, it was Bonnie who gave his life meaning. She truly believes their world could change. Clyde still believes The Oasis can be perfect.

They spot flyers for a food truck festival and a music flea market and decide to split up to continue their search.

Max catches up with Cam while Liz is off getting the alien DNA remover ready. Cam demands to know why Max is lying to them and Max finally admits Liz is the one who always tries to save him. This time, he wants to be the one to figure out what Tezca’s up to and save Liz.

Cam, who has to return to her real job tomorrow, swears she’s on Max’s side and confesses she was, at one point, in love with him. Even though they’re not partners anymore, she still wants him to be okay – and to not mess things up with Liz.

Maria and Dallas make it to the not-so-abandoned church (they don’t know it’s where Bonnie and Clyde have been staying) and he spots a stained glass with the symbol from his dad’s necklace. Dallas feels like he’s been there before and has a memory of running around the place with his dad. His dad said that the necklace was “home” and home can be anywhere. He opens the necklace and plants two seeds, telling Dallas that with his gifts he can help it grow.

Dallas comes out of the flashback and enters another building. Inside is a healthy alien tree with fruit from The Oasis. Maria pulls out the drawing from her mom’s wedding album and it matches the tree!

“I think our stories are connected,” says Maria.

Michael finds Bonnie at the flea market and she assures him she didn’t hurt Eduardo. Her dream is here on Earth and she doesn’t care about The Oasis anymore. This planet is where she belongs.

Michael knows Clyde cares for Bonnie and thinks that together they can fight Tezca. Bonnie believes Tezca is set on taking Max with them back to The Oasis. Michael promises to protect her if she reveals Eduardo’s location.

Liz returns with the alien DNA remover and Cam gets her to understand Max is holding back but in trouble. He really needs Liz’s help but won’t ask for it.

After injecting Cam, they head out to Old Sutter’s Farm – Max’s favorite place to clear his head.

Max calls Tezca into his mindscape and demands answers. She says that Max shares Jones’ abilities, including the use of the blue flame. He’s a “giver of life” like Jones, and he asks for her help in controlling the power. Tezca does and Max is able to bring forth the blue flame into his hands.

Now that he knows how to use his power, Max is determined to break their link. The handprint on her leg fades and they’re popped out of the mindscape. Tezca’s at Old Sutter’s Farm now and she’s pissed, picking up a shovel and trying to hit Max.

They fight for a while and seem about equal in strength. Tezca is determined Max will fix their home planet, but Max snarls that Earth is his home – not The Oasis.

Liz and Cam make to the farm, but Cam’s sidelined as the drug takes effect. Tezca is forced into her old body as Liz joins Max, and she confirms Jones was impressed with Liz’s talent. Tezca forces an old car to explode and metal impales Liz’s side.

Tezca leaves as Max turns his attention to healing Liz. Max confesses he should have told her everything and Liz admits she should have pushed the truth out of him.

Night falls and Bonnie, Clyde, and Michael are reunited at the barn. Clyde can feel Bonnie’s at peace and Max presents him with the third crystal. They place it on the board and a 3D map opens up in the sky, complete with The Oasis’ location.

Over in Mexico, Isobel’s lit candles and prepared drinks for her and Kyle to celebrate all they’ve learned. Isobel thinks this trip is just what she needed and confesses she knew all along that Anatsa wasn’t her “person.”

They toast to revelations about love and aliens. The song changes and Isobel reminds him he owes her a dance. Kyle tries to get out of it, suggesting they get back to the old journals. Isobel’s having none of it and insists they slow dance.

Isobel teases him about his past comments on alien/human relationships being repulsive. Kyle assures Isobel he finds her the opposite of repulsive. (Is this really going to happen?!) They slow dance as Kyle stares into Isobel’s eyes and says she’s beautiful inside and out. (Yes, it is happening!)

They kiss and the sparks fly (not literally).

Maria and Liz finally get a little alone time to catch up on life and Maria breaks the news she doesn’t have visions anymore, thanks to Liz’s cure. Liz realizes that means Maria can’t see her mom anymore and apologizes for not realizing she took that away. Maria stops Liz’s apology to say she gave her something better. “You gave me an actual future,” says Maria.

Maria doesn’t need Liz the Scientist right now. She needs Liz the Friend. They hug and Liz admits she and Max want things to be simpler than they can be. They share a bottle of wine and catch up on life.

Max and Cam are also doing some soul-searching, with Cam warning her friend he needs to be smarter about his relationship with Liz. Max confirms he truly cares for Cam but loves Liz, and Cam completely understands.

Clyde hands Bonnie a guitar and says a little music can’t hurt.

Michael takes the magical board and crystals home and gets a little emotional while staring at the hologram of the planets. He quickly puts it away when Dallas shows up with news he found an alien tree that he and his dad planted decades ago.

Michael explains the abandoned church is where the triad’s been hiding. Plus, the fruit from the tree isn’t food; it’s fuel to get them home. Michael attempts to use his powers to grab a bottle but they don’t work. He becomes dizzy and Dallas realizes Michael’s burning up.

Michael says “aliens don’t get sick” right before passing out.
