‘Schmigadoon!’ Season 2 Trailer Visits “Schmicago”

Josh (Keegan-Michael Key) and Melissa (Cecily Strong) miss the happy people and bright colors of Schmigadoon and set off to recapture that magical feeling in Apple TV+’s Schmigadoon season two trailer. The two-minute trailer provides our first good luck at where the couple wind up – Schmicago.

“Clearly, we’re in the next era of musicals here. These musicals are darker, with more sex and violence,” points out Melissa. Later, she realizes they may not capture that bubbly, joyful vibe they connected with in Schmigadoon.

“How are we supposed to make a happy ending here!? These musicals don’t have happy endings!” wonders Melissa. The answer will be revealed in the six-episode second season premiering on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 with the release of the first two episodes.

Created by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, Schmigadoon season two stars returning cast members Strong, Key, Ariana DeBose, Martin Short, Dove Cameron, Jaime Camil, and Kristin Chenoweth. Alan Cumming, Ann Harada, Jane Krakowski, and Aaron Tveit are also back for season two.

Tituss Burgess and Patrick Page join the ensemble for the new season.

Season one was nominated for four Emmys, winning in the Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics category. The musical comedy also made AFI’s list of best series, and Kristin Chenoweth was nominated for a Critics Choice Award in the Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category.

The Season 2 Plot: Having found true love in the town of Schmigadoon, season two of Schmigadoon! will find Josh (Key) and Melissa (Strong) in Schmicago, the reimagined world of ’60s and ’70s musicals. The second season of Apple’s broadly acclaimed comedy will include new original musical numbers from co-creator, executive producer and showrunner Cinco Paul.
