Romance and the hunt for a mythical sea creature are front and center in the first trailer for Apple TV+’s The Essex Serpent. The limited series is based on Sarah Perry’s bestselling novel and stars Emmy nominee Tom Hiddleston (The Night Manager) and three-time Emmy winner Claire Danes (Homeland), with BAFTA Award nominee Clio Barnard directing.
Apple TV+ will release the first two episodes on May 13, 2022. Additional episodes arrive on subsequent Fridays. The limited series wraps up on June 10th.
In addition to Tom Hiddleston and Claire Danes, the series stars Frank Dillane, Clémence Poésy, and Hayley Squires. BAFTA Award nominee Anna Symon adapted Perry’s novel for the series and serves as an executive producer along with Barnard, Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, and Patrick Walters.

The Essex Serpent follows London widow Cora Seaborne (Danes) who moves to Essex to investigate reports of a mythical serpent. She forms a surprising bond of science and skepticism with the local pastor (Hiddleston), but when tragedy strikes, locals accuse her of attracting the creature.
