Hulu’s critically acclaimed, award-winning dystopian series The Handmaid’s Tale has just unveiled the first three photos from the upcoming second season. The dark and disturbing series is based on Margaret Atwood’s bestselling novel and is created, written by, and executive produced by Bruce Miller. Warren Littlefield, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, Ilene Chaiken, and Elisabeth Moss also serve as executive producers on the riveting drama.
The cast of the binge-worthy series is led by Elisabeth Moss and includes Joseph Fiennes, Yvonne Strahovski, Samira Wiley, Alexis Bledel, Ann Dowd, Max Minghella, Madeline Brewer, O-T Fagbenle, and Amanda Brugel. Season two will premiere on Hulu in April 2018.
The series was nominated for 13 Emmys and won eight including Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series (Elisabeth Moss), Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Ann Dowd), Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series (Reed Morano), Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series (Bruce Miller), Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series (Alexis Bledel), and Outstanding Drama Series.
In addition, The Handmaid’s Tale season one earned three Golden Globe nominations, winning in the Best Television Series – Drama and Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama (Elisabeth Moss) categories. Members of the Broadcast Television Journalists Association also chose to honor the drama with three Critics’ Choice Awards nominations resulting in three wins in the Best Actress in a Drama Series (Elisabeth Moss), Best Drama Series, and Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Ann Dowd) categories.
The Season 2 Plot: The Emmy-winning drama series returns with a second season shaped by Offred’s pregnancy and her ongoing fight to free her future child from the dystopian horrors of Gilead. “Gilead is within you” is a favorite saying of Aunt Lydia. In Season Two, Offred and all our characters will fight against – or succumb to – this dark truth.
