A person dressed as a clown committed murder back in 1990, but was the right person charged with the crime? SundanceTV’s The Killer Clown: Murder on the Doorstep documentary series dives into the case, complete with interviews with key players, including investigators, Marlene’s son, defense attorneys, and the prosecutor.
The three-part docuseries will premiere on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at 10pm ET/PT on SundanceTV as well as Sundance Now and AMC+. Untold‘s Ellie Merz directed and produced the series, and Colleen Flynn, BossaNova Media’s Paul Heaney, and Sky’s Emily-Jayne Wilde and Jack Oliver served as executive producers.
SundanceTV released this description: “The series chronicles the jaw-dropping true story behind the murder of Florida resident Marlene Warren, a young wife and mother, who was brutally gunned down on her own doorstep by a person dressed as a clown.
With rumors of infidelity and an unhappy marriage, Marlene’s husband, Michael Warren, emerges as the prime suspect. But with a solid alibi, detectives can’t prove his involvement, and the case goes cold. Three decades later there’s a shocking twist—Michael’s alleged mistress, Sheila Keen, is arrested for Marlene’s murder, accused of donning the clown disguise. In May 2023, Sheila pleaded guilty just before trial. Case closed? Or does this guilty plea raise as many questions as it answers?”
